SIMPLE, PEACEFUL, PRIVATE -- A CABIN BY THE STREAM!

Ouray Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1 bath with privacy and mountain views

The Creekside Cottage is where you can regain the simple pleasures of life - step back, relax, focus on your own thoughts, and have the most beautiful area in Colorado (or anywhere!) at your fingertips to explore.

Take advantage of the beautiful setting, 'The Switzerland of America,' and the simplicity of the Creekside Cottage. This cozy cottage provides an ultimate getaway where you can relax next to the stream in back of the cabin or plan a variety of activities provided in this unique and beautiful area of Colorado.

Clean and charming, the cabin has 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with a double and twin, and one bathroom. Its cozy, comfortable living room has sofas with overstuffed pillows, and a wood burning stove.

For Internet access, a Hot Spot is provided for your use. A sizeable selection of DVD's and videos, including many classics, is available for viewing on a TV on the upper level of the cottage.

The cottage has an outdoor grill and fire pit for fun nights around the campfire with friends and family.

The cottage is perfect for couples, empty nesters, honeymooners, and small groups of 2-4. Because of the stream, next to the cabin, a minimum age of 8 (eight) is required for children.

Not a mega trophy home, but a simple, cozy and intimate get away where you can plan a variety of activities or relax next to the stream and rediscover yourself.

ABOUT THE AREA: You will want to spend several days in beautiful Ouray County. Ouray, which is known as the "Switzerland of America," is nestled in a small valley with 360-degree views of 12,000-14,000 mountains. Ridgway, nicknamed the "Gateway to the San Juans," is just 10 miles from Ouray and is well-known as the place where the John Wayne movie "True Grit" was filmed. Many of the movie set's buildings are still used today by local businesses. These two historic towns offer a variety of activities: restaurants, shops, museums, galleries, hot springs pools, jeep rentals, hiking, fishing and boating -- the list goes on and on! Day trips to Silverton, Telluride and Durango are fun as well.

Ouray is also often called "The Jeeping Capital of the World" because of its many trails through the high country (rated easy to rugged), popular for 2-wheel and 4-wheel off road vehicles.

Golf is available at beautiful Divide Ranch Golf Club located on Log Hill Mesa just above Ridgway, offering panoramic mountain views. Telluride and Montrose also have golf courses.

Ouray and Ridgway both offer local markets, and you can find larger stores like City Market, Safeway, Target and Walmart in Montrose, a flat, easy drive 35 miles from Ouray, 25 miles from Ridgway.

No matter how long you decide to stay, you will find yourself wanting to come back again and again to Ouray County, one of the most beautiful places on earth!

A beautiful place to get away from it all.

Pros: Decorated with care. Comfortable beds. Kitchen was very well appointed. Cozy living room to relax in. Fun family games in the cabinets. The outdoor area was intimate (but not small) and we used the grill just about every night. The fire pit is very user friendly. Deer strolled by the windows. Most of all, I still miss hearing the creek when I fall asleep. The cabin is in the heart of the most amazing scenery in Colorado. It was the perfect location for our daily excursions. We hiked, rode ATV's to Engineers pass, drove every dirt road between Ouray and Telluride, and loved the indian tacos at the farmers market in Ridgeway.

Cons: The bathroom is down stairs and the bedrooms are up stairs. You have to walk through one of the bedrooms to get to the other. Not a problem for a family, but possible a bit more intimate than you would want for two couples.

The mountain wifi is based off the cellular network and only got 2-3 bars at it's best (there is no landline and your personal cell MIGHT get the same reception depending on your provider). It's about the speed of your smart phone with a bad signal. Sometimes it seemed fine and other times it did nothing. Email? It will probably work. Netflix or Pandora? Forget about it. We tried only having one person connected at a time; but there seemed to be no rhyme or reason for success or failure. If we were there for a weekend it would have been not big deal. But we stayed TWO weeks and it would have been helpful to have a reliable way to check weather (there were flash flood warnings a couple of days we were there) and restaurant reviews and driving directions for our next day activities, etc. I regret that we wasted so much of our free time trying to figure out why it didn't work. The little bit of work we had to accomplish online for our jobs would have been more easily completed at the Ridgeway library.

Our only disappointment was having to drive to the management office to discuss the issue and be told "I have the same system at my house and it works fine, I don't know what to tell you. Sorry." I think a more appropriate response would be to send someone to look into it at the cabin. It was obvious they were unwilling to put forth any effort to rectify the situation. We were able to get enough info to figure out that the button on the wifi receiver is a bit wonky. You push it and it might do nothing, might display the screen, might shut down, or might get stuck pushed in.
