Photos and Description of the Dunfermline & West Fife vacation apartment rental
1 bedroom apartment in Dunfermline, ideal central location for touring Scotland

Glen Malcolm Apartment in Dunfermline is the bright and sunny upper floor of a typical Victorian stone terraced cottage dating from the end of the 19th century. It is reached by a private carpeted staircase.

Visit Dunfermline Abbey the final resting place of many of Scotland's kings and queens, including Saint Margaret and Robert the Bruce. Pittencrief Park is just 5 minutes walk from the cottage, with lawns, woods and streams, flower gardens, modern play park and historic architecture. Visit Abbot House the oldest house in Dunfermline to learn all about the town's history, and Andrew Carnegie's Birthplace & Museum. The Public Library has a local history department and family tree search facilities. Take in a show at the Carnegie Hall or Alambra.

Glen Malcom Apartment: Glen Malcolm Apartment is named after the wonderful Pittencrief Park, know locally as the Glen, just a few minutes walk from the cottage, and King Malcolm II, who with his wife Margaret, later Saint Margaret, founded Dunfermline Abbey.

With historic buildings, museums and delightful parkland of its own, Dunfermline is also ideally situated for visiting many of the historic towns and villages of Scotland, whether travelling by car or public transport, and you are never far from the sea, and our typically hilly countryside.

The apartment has a kitchenette with facilities for heating up ready made meals and preparing light snacks, and is ideal for guests who prefer to eat out on holiday, and do not wish to pay a large amount extra for facilities they are not going to use. Larger groups who desire full kitchen facilities and a garden should book our adjacent Carnegie Cottage.

our location — 95 Grieve Street, Dunfermline: We are ideally situated in a quiet residential location just a few minutes walk both to countryside and parkland and to Dunfermline town centre, with all the usual shops and dozens of restaurants and cafes to suit all tastes and budgets.

There is a corner shop for basic provisions just two minutes walk from the cottage.

The bus station with regular buses to numerous places of interest is in the town centre.

Dunfermline train station, on the Edinburgh/Aberdeen line, is twenty minutes walk through the beautiful Pittencrief Park.

The M90 between Edinburgh and Perth is four miles away. Leaving the motorway at Halbeath, junction 3, follow the A 907 into Dunfermline, and at the roundabout continue on the A907 past the new Debenhams store, and after the bridge, at the traffic lights, turn right into Chalmers Street, then second left into Grieve Street.

The Rosyth/Zeebrugge ferry terminal is just five miles away.

Lovely cosy flat, ideal location

5 of 5
Submitted: August 6, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
We enjoyed our week's stay in Dunfermline. The apartment was nicely furnished, very clean and bright and we soon felt at home there. It was so close to everything, the fantastic Glen, and a short walk to shops and town centre. The coach station was nearby so we were able to go lots of interesting places without always needing to drive. There were so many fascinating places to visit and lovely walks in the area. At Culross just a few minutes drive away it was great how the medieval buildings had been preserved. In Dunfermline itself we visited the Abbey the birth and resting place of so many Scottish Kings, and learned about the History of Dunfermline at Abbot House. The Carnegie Birthplace museum with its old hand loom is also a must.
The apartment was great value for money. We will definately be back next year.
Thanks Trevor and Janette for a great week.

worse for wear

1 of 5
Submitted: August 1, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
We were very disappointed in the condition of the property. The pictures on the site depicted a much cleaner, newer apartment. Our first impression was the smell of mold as we went up the stairway to the living area. The carpets were stained and worn. The kitchen was sparcely supplied and the dishes had been stacked with food still on them. With the execption of one window, the rest were sealed closed with signs asking that none of them be opened. To be fair, the location of the apartment is great, the bedroom furniture was fine, the bed was comfortable and the microwave and hot water pot did work. But,we would be embarrassed to recommend this apartment to our friends.
Owner's Response: I am pleased that this reviewer appreciated the bedroom furnishings and comfort of the bed. The property is indeed ideally located for the town, parks and public transport. The carpets were brand new just 18 months ago, so any wear is minimal. We do make it very clear that the apartment has a kitchenette not a large kitchen. The living and bedroom windows are bay windows, each with three panes, so to improve insulation in winter (perhaps not necessary in the reviewer's home of Florida), we keep two of them sealed, with one opening in each room. The pictures on our site are taken recently and accurately depict the apartment. The unusually long rainy spell may have caused a temporary smell of dampness at the bottom of the stairs by the front door, but this is totally absent from the flat itself.

A great place on a budget

4 of 5
Submitted: July 4, 2011 Stayed: June 2011
This is a great place, compact and modest but clean, cosy and nicely furnished as well as being inexpensive. Really well located for discovering historic Dunfermline on foot, especially Pittencrieff Park and the Abbey. Also, don't miss the Carnegie birthplace museum.
Fife (including St Andrews) and Stirling are easy to reach by car.
I've given this four stars because it's better than I expected for the price and it's a great base to explore from. (We had a car). Also, the owner was very helpful and communicated well.
