Our 400-acre property features a log cabin, a loft, and a bunkhouse. These three structures, surrounded by forest and rhododendron groves, are clustered together on the hill with a beautiful view of spring fed trout pond.
The log cabin was originally constructed in 1977. It has a full kitchen, 1 bedroom/bath, and living room. There is a full bed in the bedroom and a full futon in the living area. It has recently been renovated with a new bathroom, along with an addition of mudroom/pantry. We also added 4 'sun tunnels' to capture natural light to accentuate the open and comfortable layout. There is also a woodstove and working fireplace. The log cabin's covered front porch overlooks the pond below and offers a close-in view of the surrounding mountains to the south. All hardwood floors and tiled bathroom.
The Loft was constructed 4 years ago. It has board-and-batten exterior with simple pine siding walls and hardwood floors inside. There is a half kitchen with refrigerator, coffee maker and sink. There are two bedrooms, each with 2 full beds. There is a full futon in the living area, along with 2 chairs that convert to single futons. The new balcony porch on the loft offers a place to relax and enjoy the view of the pond below.
The kids will feel like they are at summer camp with our rustic bunkhouse, which offers a simple and peaceful experience for up to a dozen kids (and a few adults who may want the adventure of sleeping up in the loft inside the bunkhouse!)
The property is ideal for cook-outs with its fire pit and picnic tables centrally located outside the cabin and over the pond.
There are three waterfalls on the property. The largest falls some 50 feet, with accessible wading areas below.
There are creeks and springs all over the properties for exploring and wading. Miles and miles of hiking trails lead from the pastures all the way to the top of the mountain.
The pond has 2 docks (one stationary, one floating) which is great for swimming. It has recently been stocked with over 100 rainbow trout.

My husband and I, along with several friends rented Rock Creek Preserve as an extended New Years get together. From the very start it was exactly what we wanted and more. Junior was a gracious host and welcomed some of us with a tour of the property and waterfalls and made sure to check on us daily to see if we needed anything. For our group consisting of several outdoor enthusiasts, there couldn't have been a more perfect location with the Green River close by for the kayakers and Dupont right down the road for the hikers and mountain bikers. Having access to the Polaris and all the trails was an awesome surprise as well. Everyone loved the place so much that most of us were convinced to to pay for an additional night. Thanks to Tricia and James for providing such a beautiful and fun property to rent...we will definitely be back!
My family of 20 plus people had a wonderful time at Rock Creek Preserve. From the time we arrived and the very friendly caretaker, Junior, and his polite and helpful son, Lawrence, greeted us, we felt like we were at a home away from home. We ate, played, explored and enjoyed each others company all in one location. We caught bass and trout from the pond, sat around the campfire, found salamanders in the waterfall, toured the property on the Ranger, and enjoyed the starry night sky. We visited nearby Asheville, Hendersonville, Flat Rock, and Dupont State Forest. We all agreed that we just didn't have enough time to do everything we wanted, and wished we had another day to just stay on the property and take it all in. I would highly recommend for big groups who love the outdoors and don't need all the fancy amenities. It was a great time had by all and we'd love to go back!
Staying at Rock Creek Preserve was a blast! We had a mini family reunion of 21 people (almost half children). Every single one wants to come back! It is a very special and fun place to unplug and have adventures together. Riding the mountain trails in the Polaris ATV was a huge hit! The waterfalls are stunning! Well worth the hike (or the ATV ride).
Upon arrival, a missing bunk mattress was the only minor problem. The owners Tricia and James came right out to bring us one. They were extremely apologetic but we were so glad for the opportunity to meet them. Junior, the caretaker, was also great. He brought us three dozen fresh eggs and with the help of his wonderful family, gave us a tour of their farm. We got to mingle with alpacas, goats, chickens, cows and an adorable three day old calf. It was a treat for all, especially the little ones. Although the pond was low due to a recent repair, we were still able to do some kayaking and fishing off the dock. Caught quite a few fish and saw a huge turtle!
Overall, this property is wonder-FULL, and the accommodations perfect. Be prepared and understand beforehand, the true rustic style of the bunk house which has no pluming, AC or heating. Our preteen kids loved sleeping in there! It feels like a tree house - especially up top where there is a double bunk frame for a brave couple. We had seven in the bunk house, a total of nine in "the loft" and five in the old cabin. The beds were comfortable and the three bathrooms worked well. Bunk house folks just walked across the gravel drive to use the bathroom below the loft. There is a mini kitchen in the loft and a larger, but still small kitchen in the cabin (stocked well). This worked for our big group since there is a large table in the cabin and a big porch with a swing and chairs for folks to sit and eat. For dessert we had a great time roasting marshmallows and singing around the fire pit!
The cell reception is spotty to non-existent, but that actually made our time together more special since there was no technology to distract us:) The kids didn't miss TV or video games one bit!
There are loads of places to go not far from here: Flat Rock, Ashville, Hendersonville, Brevard, Greenville, not to mention all the parks, but honestly it is such an awesome property we just wanted to stay put and explore the 400 acres.
Thank you Tricia and James for renting out such a wonderful space we had an awesome time and hope to be back soon!
Our family stayed for 4 nights in August at this beautiful location and could not have been more pleased with our choice. What a hidden gem!!! It was EVERYTHING we were looking for! Lots of privacy, plenty or room to hike and roam around. We fished in the pond, played in the waterfalls and made campfires in the evening! It reminded us all of our summer camp experience when we were all younger as it gave you that kind of feel. My husband and I slept in the cabin as there is only one bedroom and our kids, age 21, 20 and 17 stayed in the LOFT. This worked out perfectly as it gave everyone their own space! There was actually plenty of room for more people in the LOFT if needed. We did not even use the the bunkhouse that could sleep many more! The cabin, loft and bunkhouse are all located within walking distance of each other. When we arrived, we were greeted by Junior, the fantastic Caretaker, who spent several hours showing us around the grounds and even brought us down the road so we could milk his cow and bottle feed the calf! This was so special for us and we are still talking about it!! Junior also stopped by a few times to make sure we had everything we needed!! On the way home in the car, we all discussed how we wish we could have stayed longer and how perfect this rustic type setting was for our family! We loved that it had no TV ( hope it never does) as we really spent great quality time just being outdoors and being with each other!! We are already talking about when we can return! I can't say enough about what a great piece of property this is! If you love the outdoors and want to get away from modern technology and spent time with your family... This is it!! I would give the property and the caretaker a 6 star if that was an option!!!
This property should be a no brainer for anyone traveling to this area. We arrived expecting a simple cabin located close to the camp we were taking our child to. We were met by two beautiful cabins and a bunk house, 400 acres of property to wander, a stocked pond, a Polaris to cruise the property and hospitality that would put the Four Seasons to shame. The directions were flawless and arrival and access to the facilities was without any hiccups. As we were settling in, a neighbor arrived to deliver fresh milk and give us an overview of the property. We settled in and spent a beautiful evening on the front porch relaxing with a great mountain view.
The next morning, the owner arrived to give us more details on the property and facilites. He was kind enough to take the time to ride us around the property to give us pointers on where to explore and find the best views and waterfalls. The property has several waterfalls that make the short hikes more than worth the effort. We spent most of our days just exploring the property, which the kids enjoyed as much as the parents did. I don't think we heard one request for an iPad or TV while we were there.
We travel a lot and have rarely had an expereince that made you feel like you chose perfectly on accomodations, but this was one of those rare events. We have nothing but praise for this property and the owners, and look forward to returning next year.
