We love the area and the views that our house and apartment provide. Also, the convenience is great! Our home is easy to drive into and close to many different amenities both in Juneau and Douglas. We can view the 4th of July fireworks from the front window and attend the Douglas 4th festivities with a short walk. Every 4th Sandy Beach is the venue for a fun celebration with many events and a parade. Gold Rush Days are also held there in June. This is a miner/lumberjack competition that we both really enjoy. There is a cafe and pub within 4 blocks and the premier live theatre in Alaska, Perseverance Theatre, is just down the street.
There are great views both in summer and winter. Summer brings boating! It's fun to see friends heading out for fishing or crabbing on their boats and the cruise ships navigating the water way. Winter brings scenes of falling snow and winter sun on the mountains across the channel.
Then there is the wildlife! It never gets old watching eagles, water fowl, whales, and orcas right out of your windows.
Close to downtown Juneau and Douglas but away from the crowds.
