On our deck, surrounded by gorgeous forest and beautiful landscaping, you will look over a gently sloping hill which leads down to lush fern groves in the summer. Why Thomas Fairbanks chose Tahoe City

The West Shore is our favorite part of Tahoe—there is no better location! The views of the lake from this side are beautiful, and so close to some of our favorites areas of Tahoe—Truckee, Squaw Valley and Emerald Bay. We can be hiking, mountain biking, or cross-country skiing through ten national forest regions with less than five minutes walking or driving.

The location itself is just so perfect… just five houses up from the main road and minutes from Tahoe City, it’s close to everything yet stays so quiet and comfortably secluded. When we don’t feel like making the 5-minute “trek” into town, the Natural Moon health food store and café, Tahoe House Bakery and Farmer’s Market (on Thursdays) are even closer and more fun for high-quality natural and organic grocery shopping. Obexer’s cute little market and café in Homewood is also a good place for staples and many organic health-food options.

For restaurants, there are so many wonderful places to eat while looking out over the river or the lake—all so close—but nothing is more wonderful than meandering just one block down, on the bike path across from the lake, to the local Fire Sign Café and endlessly popular Sunnyside restaurant.

What makes this house unique

On a warm spring or summer day, it’s a beautiful experience to mosey one block down the bike path along the lake, smelling the pine trees and enjoying the local flowers, to the Sunnyside Restaurant and Firesign Cafe. In the winter, the same walk is just as much fun—being just one block away, the brisk weather feels invigorating, and provides a dramatic backdrop to the cozy, warm restaurants once you’re inside.

Everyone loves Sunnyside, with their deck and vast expanse of windows looking out over the lake—a wonderful place to relax and watch the sun set. (Their chocolate lava cake is also to die for.) But for breakfast and lunch, we just adore the Fire Sign Café. Their restaurant and annex are both built in the charming, classic Tahoe woodsy style. In the warm weather you can also eat on their deck, looking over a lovely, small lot filled with grass, trees and flowers. The Fire Sign makes the best coffee, their portions are generous, and their food is delicious. Even waiting for a table there is fun—on busy weekends, we enjoy a coffee while we wait in the delightful restaurant annex, playing the board games or reading the books provided.

Our home was designed to bring the feeling of Tahoe inside, in an elegant and unique way. The two double-sided glass doors out to the deck and yard downstairs, and the bay windows upstairs, all give an open, beautiful view to the surrounding, 100-foot pine trees. Inside, we’ve kept the colors warm and natural, with lots of honey- and amber-shaded wood, natural hand-blown glass lights, rustic antique doorknobs, and accents and tiling in rich shades of green, wine, and browns. We hope you’ll enjoy all the special touches that we’ve added for an elegant, modern, yet organic feeling. Of course, the house is fun, too! Our spacious outdoor deck, hot tub, large LED Smart TV, and generous living/dining room area all offer lots of entertainment for gatherings of friends and family, large and small.

Nice cabin in Sunnyside

Our family spent 5 days at this Sunnyside cabin in late August. The cabin is spacious and reasonably well maintained with excellent access to the lake, Sunnyside resort, Fire Sign Cafe and West Shore Sports.

Pros:
Beautiful landscaping
Great forest views
Nice kitchen
Large deck for entertaining
Nice hot tub
Secluded quiet area near deck for reading or conversation

Cons:
No chest of drawers in either of the upstairs bedrooms so we lived out of our suitcases for the entire stay (annoying).
No bedside table in the large upstairs bedroom to place a glass of water or a book.
Bed in large upstairs bedroom is situated in a way that it is impossible for an adult to access the bed from one side. This results in having to climb over someone to exit the bed.
Insufficient lighting scheme in the upstairs bedroom.
Very complex remote controls for the TV with no instructions.
Lock on sliding glass doors to deck was broken so no security from bears.
Lock on front door needs attention as well.

Magical and charming cabin.

It is artistically designed both inside and out. Everything was made of natural and textural materials and was a pleasure to the eye. Everything was also practical and worked. Outside was equally as charming with flower boxes filled with flowers which were very bright against the surrounding backdrop of pine trees and the cabin was circled by healthy green grass. All this was on a automatic watering system and well designed. The coordinating light fixtures throughout were incredibly beautiful. As an artist myself I could not have imagined such combined magical charm.

This cabin has rustic charm and is very clean. From its amenities to the delightful decor, it is everything we hoped for in a mountain/lake area vacation rental. The guests' needs are anticipated and provided for extremely well. Clearly, the owners want their guests to enjoy their time here. A nice touch is the scrapbook on the coffee table that was made to highlight local activities and attractions.

The location is great--it feels secluded, yet groceries, restaurants, bicycle rentals & water sports gear are all within a 10 minute walk. Only a few minutes away by car are several more restaurants, shopping, Alpine Village, Squaw Valley, the Truckee River, and dozens of beautiful hiking trails.

After a full day of activities, guests can relax in the well-maintained hot tub that is on the lovely deck in back, surrounded by tall pine trees. A barbecue and outdoor dining table are provided, as well as great sitting areas for reading and sunbathing.

This is a great place to stay any time of year. Because of its location and comfortable accommodations, there is something for just about everyone. We can't wait to go back!
