Limerick is a modern small city steeped in history on the banks of the River Shannon. It is of archaeological importance with evidence of settlements dating back 3000BC and has a fine Norman castle built circa 1200 and other buildings of this period are visible throughout the area. Lough Gur site of one of the oldest inhabited areas in Ireland, Adare a quaint historical village with thatched cottages, manor and abbey, Bunratty Castle and folk park, Ennis, and pretty Ballina Killaloe villages on the shores of Lough Derg are all within half hour drive. Golf, equestrian or fishing are also within easy commute. Ideally suited to day trips to Blarney Castle, Cork city, Kerry, Galway city and Cliffs of Moher approx 1 and half hours drive. Ballyhoura forest park with walks, mountain climbing or biking trail. The Hunt Museum, University of Limerick campus at the Technology Park or Foynes Aeronautical museum are also worth visiting. Limerick has also many good shops, pubs and restaurants.
