Hi my name is Dawn and I am the homeowner of 49 Thompson st! My husband and I have two children ages 19 and 7.
Dawn Persaud purchased this house in 2005
I chose to buy this house because I loved the space and how beautifully lit it was by sunlight each day. The large space gave me the ability to entertain. The location of the house was a perfect medium being that it was so close to main street with the restaurants and shops but also to the Catskill mountains where we could do fun activities as a family.
I found the shape of the home very unique. The open space in the kitchen, blue living room, and dining room is my favorite aspect. The bay window is my personal favorite place to sit and reach or relax in my rocking chair.
The house is located in the Village of Catskill overlooking church steeples and beautiful colonial houses. The house is a 2 minute walk from main street where art galleries, restaurants, cafés, and other shops can be found. Throughout May- August a display of cat statues are placed along main street as well as other streets in Catskill. This is a large attraction for many in the area. The statues are decorated by local artists and sponsored by local businesses. The statues are later on auctioned off to buyers.
On the hudson river by the point (10 minute walk) one can watch trains and boats passing by. During the summer months there is live music every thursday night. One can also barbecue, fish, buy ice-cream, and/or have a picnic while children can play on the playground.
A drive in theatre is open on weekends from April-August showing a wide variety of movies. The drive in is located on 9W which is a 10 minute drive from the house.
A 5 minute walk to the Catskill Creek will bring you to various restaurants and the notorious Con-E island ice-cream shop where many spend there days relaxing watching the kayaks and boats passing by.
Within 15 minutes by car one can be in the Catskill Mountains where there are many activities to be done. Hiking by the Kaaterskill Falls, seeing breathtaking views of the mountains, swimming, mountain biking, relaxing by North and South Lake, Horseback riding in Bailiwick Ranch, and more!
Across the Rip Van Winkle Bridge you can experience a real castle - Olana. Olana is the previous home to the famous american landscape artist Frederic Edwin Church. Standing by Olana one can see even more breathtaking views of the mountains, hudson river, and gardens. Tours of Olana are also available.
