Custom designed by one of Hawaii's foremost architects, George Hogan, Hale 'Inana (House of Life) is a delightful Craftsman style classic beach cottage offering gorgeous ocean views.
The house sits behind stone walls and back away from a narrow entrance along Kamehameha Highway, fanning out to 120 feet of ocean frontage along the beautiful white sands of Hukilau Beach. Hogan-designed homes are famous for offering the best of Hawaii's indoor/outdoor island lifestyle, and this home is a stunning example of that design philosophy. It features a large protected deck that leads into an open and breezy great room.
Hale 'Inana has three bedrooms, two baths, and sleeps eight.
The master bedroom upstairs has its own bath and a balcony that looks out over 180° of blue Hawaiian ocean. The two bedrooms downstairs are split into an ocean-side room with a king-sized bed, and a mountain-side room with four twin beds that are perfect for children of all ages.
In August, 2014, a complete renovation of the kitchen was completed, featuring copper sinks, a custom local mangowood counter, and beautiful new tile. The tile extends into the hallway, the two downstairs bedrooms, and the downstairs bathroom, which was largely renovated at the same time.
Laie is a quiet corner of Oahu, very different from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, but keeping the conveniences of supermarkets, medical facilities, cinemas, and restaurants. Hale 'Inana sits a few short minutes’ walk from the main shopping center, and within easy driving of the golf and resort amenities of the Turtle Bay Resort. Keep driving north and you’ll soon come to the world-famous Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach, Banzai Pipeline, and the historic town of Haleiwa.
One last note. We list this property on VRBO and other sites on the Homeaway network (www.homeaway.com). We do not list in classifieds or Craigslist. If you have seen our house in a classified ad or on Craigslist, someone is trying to steal your money, and that would make us all sad. :-( To stay safe, only book here at VRBO, Homeaway or our website called The Northshore Oceanfront Collection. We stayed for a week and when we go back, we will definitely stay at Hale Inana again.
Once you close the gate (and even with it open) you would not know you are on the main road. The landscaping is plush and beautiful, with plenty of area to park two cars. The porch wraps around half the house, which really lends to a relaxing atmosphere. There is plenty of outdoor living space to enjoy.
We are a family of 8. The layout of this house is PERFECT for a vacation rental. The upstairs master is awesome for a little privacy and spectacular views. One of the downstairs bedrooms also has a king bed bed and plenty of room for a crib (huge shout out to babyabroad rentals for their professional service & quality products!) and the third bedroom with four twins was excellent for the kids. All bedrooms have A/C and very comfortable beds, which a rare find when traveling. The kitchen is well stocked. We made quite a few meals during our stay there. The side of the house had plenty of beach chairs, boogie boards and beach toys left by prior renters. Also, the outdoor showers were GREAT- no tracking sand all through the house to get cleaned up!
The biggest draw, however, is of course the proximity to the beach. Off the back porch and through the small gate (which was really appreciated since we had a two year old with us) is private and direct access to the beach. Most of the rentals along the beach have access, so there are a few people walking by, but it almost feels like a private beach. It was wonderful.
Laie and most of the towns along the North Shore are small rural beach towns. There is virtually no commercialism (go to Waikiki for that). There are wonderful Mom & Pop restaurants and various food trucks (Hukilau Cafe, Kahuku Grill & Ted's Bakery are a few good ones).
Patrick, the property manager, was easy to work with and returned our deposit promptly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and are definitely planning to come back.
This was an excellent place for us to have stayed. We were 2 couples with 2 children ages 7 and 10. The beach on this stretch was a lot more quieter. the beach is just outside the back yard. We felt that we were quite safe with the kids. The house was well equipped with beach toys, chairs etc. The grocery store was a walk away as were restaurants. The home had all that we needed and more. The north shore is beautiful. A fantastic way to relax and spend quality time with family.
We rented a car while staying here, therefore easy to get around and sightsee.
My husband, his parents and sister and I stayed here for 2 weeks in August of 2013. We could NOT have chosen a better place to stay. Not only was the home gorgeous, but it was literally right on the sand, with a little path to our own private beach. The home was spread out enough so that everyone had their space and were relaxed. I'll never forget the upstairs bedroom with the ocean breeze flowing in from the balcony, and that first sunrise I took in the morning. The town of Laie had all the necessities we needed, and was great to be away from the business of Waikiki. The drive over to Waialua was wonderful, with amazing scenery and great little shops and restaurants over there. It's a scenic way to get down to Pearl Harbor and Honolulu instead of taking the highway. I can't recommend this home enough for your rental. You'll never forget the trip!
We had the most amazing two full weeks of fun and relaxation while staying in this amazing beach house. It really is only a few steps away from the beach, and also only a short walk to the grocery store. Hale Inana has plenty of indoor and (most importantly) outdoor living space. My spouse and I enjoyed sitting on the comfortable outdoor furniture in the evening listening to the sounds of the ocean, and enjoying the cool breeze. The outdoor showers made it really simple for everyone to clean up after a day at the beach too, and was really convenient. My 10yo son loved body surfing up and down the white sand beach, while my two toddlers enjoyed building sand castles and playing in the somewhat calm waters right in front of the house. There is a natural break wall provided by a large reef, which during low tide allows the little ones to get out in the water and play. All of the bedrooms are well appointed with very nice linens and comfortable beds to sleep in. We look forward to coming back to the Hale Inana every year!! Special thanks to Patrick!! Patrick is the property manager and knows the area very well, and went out of his way to make sure our family was very comfortable during our stay, Thank YOU Patrick. BEST VACATION EVER!! -CT
We are a family of seven with kids ranging from 6 months to 17. This house and it's location was perfect. It is right off Kam highway. When I realized this, I was worried about noise. There is a large gate you drive through and once it is closed, there isn't any noise, just the sound of the ocean. The house is dated, but it was very clean and that is more important to me. We loved having the master upstairs, giving us privacy from the downstairs bedrooms. There was tons of storage. The kitchen was well-stocked. We ate in almost every meal and I had everything I needed to cook. Loved having the two outdoor showers and a hose to spray off feet by the deck. The ocean is about 30 feet from the house. Wonderful sandy beach, but there is some reef. There was a turtle that swam right in front of the house our entire stay. We went down the beach about 150 yards for snorkeling, paddle boarding and boogie boarding. There was a sandy channel that was nice for these activities. We had our entire deposit back just two weeks after we arrived home. We stayed in Waikiki at a resort before spending a week at this house. We loved Laie and the slower pace. We were close enough that we drove to Haleiwa three times. We wanted our kids to have a real Hawaiin experience and this home provided exactly what we were looking for. We would definitely stay here again.
This house worked out great. The beachfront location is really special. It is a quiet beach with just a few folks scattered along it throughout the day. This beach really can't be beat, very peaceful and provides miles of privacy for walking/jogging. It is protected so swimmable even in winter. The house itself is dated, especially the kitchen. There is a bit of an musky odor to the house, I think mainly because of the dated cabinets in the kitchen. Don't expect a luxury home but, nonetheless, it is a good deal especially considering the beachfront location. Really enjoyed the outdoor showers, despite their ill-repair--hot water and fresh air together can't be beat no matter if it does need a paint job! Manager was available to answer questions. We would consider staying there again.
