Licensed B&B - We offer coffee and wine upon check-in but no meals are included in the stay. We also do not allow/tolerate events/venues as this is a wonderful and unique opportunity to enjoy being able to see Charleston more as a resident than a tourist and we expect proper respect to be given as such.
This is an authentic Charleston 'single-house' (c 1795) which means a Charleston house that is a single room in depth, designed to catch the ocean breezes. The builders of this property were in the shipping business and a wharf was built into the river to accommodate the owner's ships. Property taxes at that time were based on a front footage assessment and the typical single house was placed so that the narrow side of the house would be on the street side. This property was an exception in that the long side of the house faces South Battery which made it even more accessible to the prevailing summer southwest breezes. The two piazzas on the south side provide a dual purpose: to provide a comfortable place to enjoy the afternoon breeze and sunsets and to provide shade for the house itself from the afternoon sun.
On the main floor is an elegant dining room with beautiful hand made mahogany table, sideboard, and hunt-board. Just across the central hall is a less formal living room. It is furnished with comfortable upholstered sofa and chairs and accented with fine antiques including a mahogany chest, fold top desk, French farm table with 6 chairs and a magnificent highboy. The new kitchen with marble counters, lovely light filled windows on three sides, all new appliances and conveniences is accessed through two nine foot entrances from the living room. All of these rooms open onto the main floor piazza and offer wonderful opportunities for family fun and entertaining. A gracious central stairway leads from the piazza to the large and lovely Charleston garden.
The next floor houses the main bedrooms, baths and closets. The two large bedrooms with four poster mahogany King Bed in Master and Queen in Guest Room and adjoining bathrooms open onto the upper piazza overlooking the garden and Charleston Harbor.
The upper floor consists of two large dormer bedrooms with wonderful windows on the north and south sides. Between these rooms is a bath with a shower. All have windows providing a spectacular panoramic roof top view of the landscape below.
The garden is spacious and charming. The areas adjoining the house are terraced in old Charleston bricks and provide fabulous area for containers of flowering plants. The planting in the main garden is a balanced mixture of evergreens which provide shape, texture, and definition on a year round basis, and flowering shrubs and plants which provide a bouquet of color and scent as the seasons evolve. In the center of the front garden is a shallow reflecting pool with an Italian fountain. The fountain is automatically lighted at night and bathes the whole area with the ambiance of warm light and gurgling sounds. It is completely private from the street and fully enclosed and offers wonderful opportunities for entertaining or for children playing.
Very near prominent streets such as Church, Meeting, King and Legare Streets all are within very short walking distances to the property. White Point Gardens and the Harbor are within walking distance of the house. The house is in easy walking distance to the historic house museums, antique shops, art galleries, boutiques and famous restaurants.

We are a retired couple who raised our 3 children in this house. In 2001 we sailed our boat to Europe. We now spend part of the year on our boat in Europe and other part of the year in Charleston. We have so much space in our home that we enjoy offering some of the space for rent as a B&B (no breakfast)
Jamie Molony purchased this house in 1978
We bought this property because it was in walking distance of anything on the pennisula and is a lovely, historic, large, gracious home. It is an exciting and happy place to be.
Fabulous location, authentic Charleston 'single house', spacious and comfortable, lovely garden and piazzas.
Close to the battery, house museums, Spoleto Festival events, antique shops, fabulous restaurants. Beaches and water activities are nearby. Licensed Bed and Breakfast.
I traveled here with my family (husband, parents, mother-in-law, brother and sister-in-law) and it was divine. The home was spacious and well kept and the backyard was like a dream. With so much to do in the Charleston area, we had the best of both worlds -- being able to walk to downtown attractions on King and East Bay as well as relaxing at 'home' on the porch. The property management contact was also very accommodating and kind. I would highly recommend this home for a family vacation!
What a perfect location, right near the Battery, walking distance to all the great sites and restaurants. We were even on the carriage tour so we waved to tourists as we did dishes. We walked to a nearby playground and Waterside Park, had dinner at Magnolia's and lunch at Hyman's. We were a short drive to Folly Beach (lunch at Rita's), the Angel Oak, and plantation gardens. We enjoyed wine on the porch--not sure we realized there would be a water view! Everything in the house was clean and well-cared-for. It was so nice to have spices, etc. in the kitchen, and toiletry kits in the bathrooms for any forgotten items when packing. Harris Teeter was a nice, local store to buy the basics. The owner's representatives answered all our questions in advance and while we were there, giving us tips for activities. The beds and linens were comfortable, the neighborhood quiet and safe. This was a great home for our large group, in town for a wedding.
The home was in impeccable shape, updated kitchen essentials but basically true to its historic period. Great location within walking distance to historic Charleston and two beautiful verandas overlooking a private yard provided much relaxing enjoyment and partial views of the bay. Plenty of private space and bathrooms to comfortably accommodate all.
A truly charming and spacious place by the Battery in the historic district, with lush gardens, comfortable rooms, and lots of original glass and balconies. You can see the Battery off the second floor. The family takes fine care of the house, and the manager, Jamie, is efficient and wonderfully friendly. The kitchen has all conveniences--including two fine coffee-makers and a gas stove. The beds are elegant and delightfully comfortable, high off the floor. A Federalist house with antiques and modern conveniences!
We so savored our stay.
This luxurious home did not disappoint. We rented the house to be able to enjoy all the beauty of Charleston. The house is full of history and has plenty of room for everyone. The three floors offered privacy between rooms and each room was individually decorated with care. We definitely felt as if we were home, not at a cookie cutter decorated rental or just nice hotel in the downtown area. It was also clean and very comfortable when we arrived. With our family of six the rental rate was less than we could rent two rooms at the nicer hotels in the Downtown area. The kitchen allowed us to eat as we are accustomed to, although the near-by restaurants were magnificent. We walked almost everywhere we wanted to go during the day and loved strolling the Battery at night. The back yard is fabulous and surprisingly large, I had no idea the amount of room that can surround these Charleston Single Houses. My children enjoyed having somewhere to run and play and the gardens were very nice. Sitting on the porch sipping sweet tea and watching the kids play was so relaxing. I could not help but think what a wonderful backdrop for a special event. That may be my next venture if they will allow it. The owners were extremely accommodating with all our requests during the entire stay and rental process. I asked many questions and they were always available and willing to help with advice, directions, and special requests. I do not know what more I can say to let you know that the house is as wonderful as it seems. We will stay at this house anytime it is available when we visit Charleston as we had the gracious Charleston experience through the southern hospitality of the owners and the wonderful people and area that surrounds this beautiful home.
Charleston was voted for the second consecutive year 'Top City in the United States' in the 2012 Conde Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards. While we would like to keep the secret of Charleston a little more to ourselves, we can't help but be proud of our ambiance (rooftop bars, narrow, tree-lined courtyards, fabulous harbor tidal creeks), our culture and sites (notable historic neighborhoods, antique shops, fall and spring house and garden tours), our renowned friendliness ('legendary hospitality and graciousness baked into our way of life'), our lodging opportunities described as 'a dream come true for travelers'. our restaurants which 'shine bright on the national food scene' and shopping that lets you 'spoil yourself or someone else with unique treasures only found in Charleston. Antique shops, local boutiques, name brand outlets, art galleries and jewelers awaiting your arrival'
