Grandma's cottage gives you an opportunity to truly step away and enjoy a time of the past where hard woods surround a beautiful knotty pine cabin set on the East side of Torch Lake. The cabin is furnished with natural wood and furnishings that warm the heart and fill the soul. When I am here at Grandma's cottage, I am truly back to place where there is no time but the present!
Waqaa! (Yupik greeting of Hello)
I have hundreds of childhood memories of being raised at the old Camp Fairwood from camping to sailing. I currently live in Alaska but it has been my dream to own a little piece of Torch and I am now sharing my dream with you. Enjoy walking in the past amongst the old hard woods and crystal clear waters of Torch Lake. The sunsets will let you forget that there is any time but the moment. I am sure it will rejuvenate you as it does the same for me.
Lisa Hubert purchased this cabin in 2013
Grandma's Cottage is a one of kind opportunity to turn back the clock where nothing is more important than enjoying your family and friends in the midst of crystal clear blue water and unbelievable sunsets. This cottage provides a perfect 'Haven' for relaxing, enjoying fun filled days on the water, and peaceful reflective evenings watching the sunset around a brand new beautiful outdoor firepit. You can even grill your entire dinner with a built in grill at the fire pit. Enjoy the evening by the fireside in the surroundings of a hard wood forest and listening to the lapping of the waves snug in the serenity of Grandma's Cottage.
If you do feel the need to venture out, there are so many place to go. Travel by car or boat to Brownwood Acres to enjoy in some local traditional fun of flea markets on Sunday and shopping on on the weekends. Alden and Bellaire are charming small towns close by with their own entertainment, shopping and activities. Golfing is available at Shanty with their own 'Legend' designed by Arnold Palmer. The water sports are endless from snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, wind surfing, tubing, wake boarding, water skiing, and best of all, swimming!
Grab your coffee in the morning and enjoy the beautiful morning hours on the lake. Fill your days with as much activity as you desire. Settle back in the evenings and watch the awesome sunsets that Torch Lake has to offer. When the day is done, enjoy the peace and solitude that Grandma's Cottage has to offer with the natural wood interior, field stone fireplace and the comforts of truly being on an unforgettable vacation. The only hard part is leaving this paradise but we do hope you return to build more memories to last a lifetime.
Grandma's cottage has beautiful 100' private lake frontage in the surroundings of Cedar and Birch hardwoods. It offers your own 90 ft. dock, boat lift (1000 lbs), beautiful newly built patio and a secure mooring ball. The east side of Torch lends itself to unforgettable sunsets and easy access around the lake. On sunny days, the lake has a wide array of hues of blue that are reminiscent of the Caribbean. Torch Lake is the largest lake in Michigan (18 miles long and 2 miles wide) and is part of a chain of lakes which allows boating from Elk Rapids to Bellaire. You are not far from Dewitt's Marina, Bellaire, Alden and Brownwood Acres.
Grandma's Cottage is very unique with the knotty pine interior and furnishings. Everything is clean and spotless just as Grandma would have it. It is set up with 2 bedrooms with enough sleeping for 6 people. There is an enclosed outdoor porch that looks out to the lake where you can enjoy a breakfast while feasting your eyes on the third Most Beautiful Lake in the World, recognized by National Geographic Magazine.
Wonderful - we are so glad that you had such a nice time with your family. We look forward to your next visit later in the summer! Warm Wishes, Lisa & Kim
What a super gathering. We loved the cozy cabin, beautiful scenery, family time together and the unbeatable hosts. Thanks so much. Our recommendation, below, would be all of the above.
We had a very enjoyable week at Grandma's Cottage. The setting is quiet and more private than many lake cottages. The cottage was very clean and everything worked. We also enjoyed having a fire in the family room on one of the chilly nights.
Great location on Torch Lake. Only a short ride to Alden or Bellaire. The cottage was cozy with a large living room and plenty of outdoor space. The dock was a great place to hang out and watch the sunset. We loved it!
My husband, his brother and wife and I had the opportunity to spend four days at this beautiful little cottage. We enjoyed the excellent workmanship put into all the pine paneling on the interior, the amazing view of the lake and the very cozy fireplace. We were there during windy, rainy days but found this added to the warmth and coziness of the cottage. Ample room in the kitchen gave us a chance to fix great meals. I took some walks through the quiet woods while the leaves were bursting with color. We are very positive we will return soon. Thank you Kim and Lisa for opeing your home.
This is truly like going to a place your Grandma would have owned. Very Clean with retro feel, pine ceilings, cozy fireplace, comfy beds. Had everything we needed. The beach and lake are perfect for all water sports, and the sunsets were amazing, with an outdoor firepit as well. Can't wait to go back!
Grandma's Cottage is a great northern getaway and is nicely located on the East side of Torch Lake, just north of the Torch Lake Yacht Club. The cottage is practically next to the lake and the views are simply spectacular. Although it was too cold to swim in May, the lake frontage offered very nice amenities such as a fire pit and docking area for swimming and boating.
The cottage offers a quiet family setting which includes a master bedroom and a second bedroom that can comfortably accommodate 3-4 family members. The wood fireplace is very cozy and the layout of the cottage creates the perfect Northern Michigan family experience.
Look forward to returning with my family again in July and August.
As of the summer season of 2015, Grandma's Cottage will go wireless. In addition, a beautiful porch was built along with new patio furniture. We still have a deluxe dock that extends 90 feet into the water, and a secure mooring ball for your boats.
Right out your front door is a deck and fire pit with Adirondack chairs around the perimeter.
Brownwood Acres only a few miles North is a unique cluster of stores with souvenirs, light lunches, renown fresh doughnuts, and toy store especially fun for the kids.
Traveling south is Dewitt's Marina along with the famous Dock Side Bar/Restaurant at the entry of Clam River.
Traveling even far there south either by boat or car is the action packed Torch Rivera Marina and a favorite hang out for boaters due to the amazing sandbar and crowd. Great hang-out for the young people. On the Fourth of July it is the place to be to view the phenomenal display of fireworks.
There are a number of top golf courses in the area, Shanty Creek with 'The Legend' designed by Arnold Palmer and of course, Grand Traverse Resort & Spa with 'The Bear' designed by Jack Nicklaus.
Traveling south is the quaint town of Alden that has public launch pad and docks. On Thursday nights they host a special evening with stores staying open late and live entertainment (music, magic show, etc.).
Traveling M88 to the cute town of Bellaire you will find all sorts of cuisine, brewery, and entertainment. They also host a well stocked grocery/liquor store.
