Grand, three story centrally located San Francisco home offers a double living room with baby grand, formal dining room, and cook's kitchen opening onto tranquil urban garden. Take your pick of three light-filled bedrooms, lounge in the atrium/sunroom, read the paper on the comfy den sofa, dine at the large English oak dining room table or al fresco in the garden, sing around the baby grand piano, and soak/shower in the two bathrooms - one with spa-like soaking tub and slate floors. We provide wifi, satellite tv, and one-car garage.
There's a large kitchen with Wolf stove and Subzero refrigerator, walk-in pantry, laundry, formal dining room seating 12, and a double living room. Use the house as a home base for day trips around San Francisco, or relax with a book in the sunny atrium, watch satellite tv in the den, cook up a feast in our large kitchen, or barbeque on the garden patio.
The house is perfect for two small families, a family reunion, or a romantic holiday. Maximum capacity is six. The master bedroom suite has a king size bed, and the other two bedrooms have new queen beds with either down or down alternative duvets and loads of pillows.
The house is central (5-15 min. walks) to the Castro, NOPA, upper and lower Haight, Hayes Valley, and Mission districts, restaurants, cafes, and music venues, fabulous shopping, and Golden Gate Park with its museums, Japanese Tea Garden and Arboretum, all set among acres of spectacular cypress, lawns and gardens.
Downtown is a 15 minute train ride, the Ferry building (and America's Cup activities) is 20 min., and Fisherman's Wharf is about 30 min. using two trains. Trains run every 10-15 minutes from the Duboce Park stop 1 1/2 blocks away. Buses going north/south stop on our block, and we are happy to give you guidance on public transit.
We are caring and experienced hosts, frequent house traders, and international travelers. We love to share the insider's San Francisco -- whether restaurants, markets, shopping, museums/galleries, live music, hikes/walks/views, we will help you discover it. The Castro is the real San Francisco: friendly, lively, with beautiful homes, gardens and views, centrally located with a village character. Public transportation to the beach, downtown, Embarcadero/Ferry Building, SFO, and points north and south is 1 1/2 blocks away.
We want your stay in San Francisco to be comfortable and memorable, and we will do our best to help you find your way in our beloved city.
We are long-time hosts and travelers, and we love to share our our favorite San Francisco and northern California secrets with our guests.
The Castro/Buena Vista Park neighborhood is the geographic center and the very heart of San Francisco. We love its village character: urban hip meets old-style warm hospitality, beautifully maintained Victorians and gardens, shops, restaurants, public transit and cafes.
Our family home is graciously proportioned to accommodate large family dinners, with its large dine-in kitchen complete with Wolf stove & Subzero refrigerator, 100+ year old English oak dining room table seating 12, and intimate urban garden with patio and barbeque. The garden has been lovingly built over 17 years and features edible greens & herbs, trees and perennials. The atrium/sunroom connects one bedroom with the den, covered by a large skylight - a treat on a moonlit night. We love to entertain in the double living room around the old baby grand piano (my mother's from the 1920's), or read the paper on one of the buckskin sofas on a sunny morning. There are three parks within a 5-20 minute walk, and shopping is a 5 minute walk or (a favorite) Hayes Valley, a 15 minute walk.
This was our first experience with VRBO and we were spoiled rotten. Saundra is an excellent host. Very kind, lots of helpful knowledge about SF. The house is beautiful and impeccably decorated. Add in the great location and we had one of the best vacations ever!
We are a family of 5 and all loved our stay at Saundra's house! The home is well appointed, inviting, stylish, and comfortable. We enjoyed the serene garden and wonderful art work through out the house. Saundra was a terrific hostess! She openly shared her insight of the city and had available to us many books on San Francisco, California plus, restaurant listings and brochures of popular sights. We hope to visit and stay there again!
Saundra's place is absolutely beautiful and serene. My husband and I have stayed several times over the past few years, in the bedroom suite, and can't recommend it enough. The room is large & lovely with big windows overlooking the garden, plenty of closet space, and a very comfy bed with quality linens. The bathroom has great light, a huge tub and sink and lots of room. The shared toilet which is only used by Saundra or her teenage son at night, is in a separate space, and has never once been an issue. You really feel like you have the upstairs to yourselves as Saundra and Griff are very discreet and Griff heads to school early in the morning, usually before we are up and about. There is a den with a TV across from the bedroom which is at your disposal as well as an atrium with a chair for reading if so inclined. We travel a lot and are very discriminating. Since we first stayed at Saundra's we have never considered staying anywhere else. We have three adult children in San Francisco, so we come often and before I sign off, I will tell you that the location is fabulous. You can walk to many great neighborhoods, and take the Muni easily, as it's only a block away. Last but not least, Saundra is a fabulous and generous host. We are always so happy to see her when we visit.
As the host described, the house is beautifully decorated with lots of details. My family members had a memorable gathering there. The host, Saundra, was very nice and helpful all the time. Although we had a little dispute over the cleanliness of the kitchen, we were able to work out finally. Especially recommend for slow pace travellers who could indulge themselves in every corner of the house.
Saundra's house is amazing. I stayed there with my Mom and my two sisters for 5 days and we had a great time! The house is full of wonderful art and cozy areas for lounging. The bathtub is a dream! The house is located in an unbeatable (and very safe) area. Minutes from all the great areas you want to visit and MUNI transportation is just around the corner. Lots of great restaurants within walking distance and the local grocery store on the corner has everything you need. Saundra made us feel at home in her beautiful house and we enjoyed cooking in her great kitchen and enjoyed our coffee (and wine!) in the garden. Staying at Saundra's made our trip to the wonderful city of San Francisco that much more enjoyable. Highly recommended.
On a recent combo business and pleasure trip, we decided to rent a house as we needed a larger place since there was 6 of us (our 2 college kids, and grandparents). This is a large home, plenty of space in the house - comfortable living, dining, and kitchen areas plus space to retreat to for your own quiet / work time. It was great to be able to cook in the kitchen and have family dinners together, and my family enjoyed the outdoor patio area for breakfasts. The location was convenient to downtown (I took the Muni street car to get to Moscone convention center) and close to lively neighborhoods like the Mission and the Castro and Golden Gate Park.
While we walked or took public transportation to most places, it was great to have the garage as street parking was a bit difficult. I know San Francisco fairly well for a visitor, but it was a real plus to learn more about the city from the helpful and knowledgeable host. Thanks for a great trip!
