Originally built in 1892 (the very first home in Gearhart), the Latourette House has been lovingly maintained and is a wonderfully unique vacation getaway. Perched on a full acre of grassy meadow ringed by old-growth pines, the home sits just three blocks from the beautiful sandy beach and only four from the shops and cafes of charming Gearhart.
The home can accommodate eight guests year-round with its four bedrooms, and in the summers, a sleeping porch (surrounded with netting instead of glass windows) sleeps up to six more guests on its bunk beds. The sleeping porch is perfect for kids who love to camp in the backyard!
The Latourette House has 2,500 square feet of unique living space. The sun-drenched living room has ample windows, along with a cozy wood-burning fireplace for chilly evenings. This is the ideal spot to settle in with a good book for a quiet afternoon, or break out one of the provided board games for a little healthy competition.
At mealtimes, you'll find the kitchen is equipped with all the modern conveniences of home, including a dishwasher, oven with stovetop, refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker. Adjacent to the kitchen, the formal dining room with antique light fixtures and a gorgeous hutch awaits your home-cooked breakfasts and leisurely dinners.
A door from the kitchen leads out to the patio, with a charcoal grill for summer barbecues. Outdoor seating nooks are scattered across the wraparound deck and throughout the grassy yard, and if you watch closely, you might spot a deer or elk wandering past!
With four bedrooms, three full baths, and its unique seasonal sleeping porch, up to eleven guests can share the home during the summer months, with plenty of room for eight guests year-round. The largest bedroom offers a queen bed, second fireplace, and a cable TV with DVD player, along with a private door leading out to the wraparound deck. Two more bedrooms have a queen and a full bed, respectively, and the fourth has two twins with another TV set. There are three full bathrooms, one with a beautiful soaking tub and two with walk-in showers.
The upstairs summer sleeping porch, enclosed by netting rather than glass windows, is a one-of-a-kind spot that our younger guests will love! Over the years, it has become a makeshift art gallery, with the names and messages of many children who have slept in this unique pseudo-camping space over the years! Yours are welcome to add their special touch. Please note that while the beds are comfy and the linens warm, the space does not have heat -- it is wonderful for summertime sleeping in the fresh air, but not suitable for colder weather.
The home even offers wireless Internet access and a washer/dryer, so it's wonderful for a working getaway or long-term stay. Pets are welcome with a $10 nightly fee ($40 minimum per stay), and please inquire for special arrangements to accommodate a wedding or large reunion!
This one-of-a-kind vacation home has welcomed families to beautiful Gearhart for decades! Will yours be next?

Loved the Latourette experience!
Really enjoyed the spacious sunroom, the ambience of the historic house & the yard! The books about the history were interesting as well as the photos of family. The kitchen has lots of dishes & utensils and there were lots of sand castle toys for the beach-kids, as well as adults, really had fun with these. It would have been nice to have a few logs for the fireplace & a book with instructions about how/when to recycle, etc. We enjoyed a GREAT weekend! Thanks!
