|Minimum Stay||4 nights|
Our home is simply elegant, a quiet natural gift of the wine country, the gorge follows your steps to the lake.
About the owner: The shoreline of Cayuga Lake is my home. I grew up in Florida, vacationing in Ithaca from 1976 every summer. When I retired I was able to purchase this contemporary treasure.
Time here has inspired two of my children to choose Cornell for their education.
Fire pits, smoors on the lake, and hot fudge sundaes from Purity Ice Cream get you through those growth moments of life.
We are spoiled with Tempurpedic beds, air conditioning, and city water (all the luxuries not common to the lake cottages of our years as a tenant, each summer).
Quiet surrounds us, as in a bubble, while outdoor grilling, as others enjoy the hot tub in summer or winter.
When playing my 1952 Steinway in the music room overlooking the gorge, time stands still.
I love to sleep in the loft with a fire at night, while my kids are playing cards in the lower living room by the fire.
We are connected, as if in a tree house, to all that is mother nature.
It is difficult to be humble about my sweet little treasure, but it is easy to be a steward of this precious land.
Loretta Timm-Gardner purchased this house in 2004
Why the Owner Chose Ithaca:
Travelers report to me about their stay, that it had been a gift to be here, whether for a family reunion, a single writer, a bride and groom, or a lone musician. All seem to rest, play, learn and a few report that magic happened.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
There is a mother Eagle who has had her nest full of new little babies for 7 years now from the same high nest in a tree on the North property line, over the gorge. Every year, like the clock work of Spring, she never seems to tire, she never ages, she soars the shore, over the lake, with grace and strength. Each year, her precious eaglets hatch and after finding their own wings, they take flight. She then sends them off.....then does it all over again in a year. A glimpse of her is renewal…where does she get that from? Here…in Ithaca, just like I do. I wish the same for you.
Once you get down the terrifying driveway you find this beautiful home with amazing views. It was very clean and had all the amenities we needed. The back porch was a perfect spot to drink some early morning tea, and the BBQ made for a great dinner. My lady friends and I had such a lovely weekend of hiking, gorge sighting, and yummy eats. We toured the wineries and engaged in some friendly banter with the locals. We loved coming back to the house and relaxing by the fire. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a home away from home. Keep in mind that there is a small apartment under the house that is also rented out.
We rented this house for our daughter's graduation from Ithaca. Only 10 minutes from campus. Beautiful house and location. Plenty of room outside on deck and grass by the lake. Would definitely recommend this over a overpriced hotel rental.
When my group of 12 chose the Cayuga Lake Home, we didn't really know what to expect, but extraordinary and luxurious wasn't top of our list. Prior to choosing the cottage, we noticed there were quite a few choices of cottages around the region, but only a handful offered the flexible stay Cayuga Lake House does. When it came down to choosing however, it was really the patience, concern, and spirit shown by Loretta that really steered us to an amazing and unforgettable stay - it was a pleasure speaking and planning with Loretta.
First impressions of the cottage were fantastic. Situated on Cayuga lake, the bigger of the finger lakes, this cottage is an architectural beauty. Spacious interior easily and comfortably accommodated the 12 of us, from the well thought out use of space to the high quality chairs and sofas. The house has memory foam beds and Loretta went through the trouble to ensure there are enough towels, beddings, toiletries, and kitchen-ware to accommodate our large group. Towels were high quality and even small details like shampoo and soap were carefully chosen and feels a notch above hotel quality. The entire house was very clean and organized when we arrived, and there were enough beds and sofas for the 12 of us to "sleep in" whenever we felt like. The architectural beauty of the cottage was more understandable and a pleasant surprise when we found out Loretta had studied architecture before (which also explained the architecture books amidst the novels in the mini-library near the Steinway Grand Piano).
In the mornings, we got to enjoy the canoes Loretta owns and shares with the awesome neighbours. By the end of the trip all 12 of us had a chance to canoe the width of Cayuga lake. After each day hiking and exploring the beautiful finger lakes region, we looked forward to returning to the cottage both to make use of the iron-chef-quality kitchen as well as the deck overlooking the lake. Not to mention later in the night we would enjoy the advanced multi-jet hot tub and watch in awe of the fireflies. Entertainment provided is more than you would expect from a 5-star hotel. Strategically placed within the spacious living room facing a variety of comfortable and artistic seating is a big screen Sony TV with a respectable sound system. There are TVs in some bedrooms also, and even wifi for phones and laptops.
From the wonderful planning with Loretta to the extraordinary home, I truly think we could not have had a better stay.
We had such a great time at this beautiful home. Tons of windows bring in the beautiful sunlight, generously sized rooms, a great basement (ie, hangout for the kids!), and several decks and outdoor spaces to relax. The hot tub and fire pit also ante up the wow factor. But the best part of all was the location. You're not right in the downtown area so you have that "away from it all" feel but with just a 4 minute drive you can be at the Commons, restaurants and shops. And then in the other direction you have Taughannock Falls, Cayuga Nature Center and the wineries - and none of it more than a 10 minute drive which is great when you have kids.
Simplicity the ultimate sophistication a beautiful home on the lake in the wine country of the Finger Lakes. Endless activities connected with Cornell, Ithaca College, Wells College, many other Colleges surround Cayuga Lake.
Every lake activity, sailing, water skiing, rowing, etc.
Every night summer bonfire, with smores on the Lake front. A circle of nature surrounding your friends and family. A yearly tradition. We brought our family here to the Lake since 1976.

This is my first summer of managing so we may need to learn some steps together.
My travelers, have learned this site together with me, by grace and persistence each guest has become a part of my new business venture. Once guest, now friends from the world over.
My success this summer is only due to these really cool, IT savvy, travelers. I am lovin it!
