This cottage in the Bywater is so incredible! You enter the cottage after passing through a lush and spacious garden: private, plants galore, seriously a haven. You have complete privacy in your own cottage, bedroom, balcony but share the garden between 2 other homes. It is very bright and sunny, but of course shutters can be closed. It is ideal for a couple (but certainly works for two friends who want to sleep apart since there is a comfy fold down futon in the living room area), though be mindful that it is loft-style e.g. no doors separating bedroom space from downstairs futon. There are many wonderful restaurants within just a few blocks (you could stay in NOLA for a week and be happy to only eat at Satsuma (coffee, salads & sandwiches), Maurepas (hip spot with killer cocktails and inventive food choices for lunch or dinner); Booty's for a cocktails and world tapas; Mariza (top 20 in US by Esquire Mag); and Bachannal is a wine store/restaurant/live jazz spot with a 'secret garden' feel about it. You enter and pick your wine and cheeses, or order from the limited but gourmet small dish options. Then grab an outdoor table and let the sensual New Orleans evening waft over you. Elizabeth's (famous for their brunches, but I think dinner is their forte) it's very funky and has folk art all over the colorful walls thanks to Dr. Bob, local 'Be Nice Or Leave' sign man; The Joint is consistently voted one of the best BBQ places in the city; at least 3 or 4 more within just a couple of blocks of this wonderful get away spot.
Great bars are: Mimi's in The Marigny (always voted best neighborhood bar); Marky's; BJs; Vaughan's is Kermit Ruffin's home base on Thursday nights at 8pm, Saturn Bar, Hi-Hi Lounge, All-Ways Lounge and of course ALL the greatest live music venues are on Frenchmen Street just about 10 blocks from the house (a 2 minute cab ride).
This cottage is nothing short of a haven from the chaos of the French Quarter. You'll not want to leave. If thinking of booking a long weekend...treat yourself and go whole hog for full week.

I am the owner, Maria and live on the premises in the 1840s cottage in the back. I love my house and love to share its warmth and charm with others. The neighborhood is great and funky, a great plac to stay and feel like a local or get a sense of what living in New Orleans is all about. Just to walk around this neighborhood you could be entertained for days! It is a neighborhood brimming with artists, musicians and creative types of all kinds. It is evident as you pass house after house which has some wild or quirky signature design. Too many too describe...you'll have to come see for yourselves :)
It is a short walk to the French Quarter but distant enough to have quiet nights and enjoy wine in an outdoor garden before heading out for the night.
It is private, secure, and quiet.
