Beautiful and Relaxing!!

  • 5 of 5
I cannot tell you how much our family enjoyed our precious time at Timber Wolf cabin… First, the Powell family were excellent hosts beginning even before our arrival and their communication with us was outstanding. Steve even called us on our drive to see if we needed assistance with directions! Our 10 year old son was completely enamored with Steve and Lobo and enjoyed catching hundreds of fish during our week stay. The property was breathtakingly beautiful and just perfect for our outdoor-loving family. The cabin well-maintained and stocked with anything you might need. It was clean, cozy and comfortable… felt like home! Even though we didn't want to leave, we did venture out to try a few of Steve's recommendations: hiking the Appalachian Trail and a trek to Asheville (which is a lovely town) to eat. Both are HIGHLY recommended! Steve and Joy are an excellent Christian family willing to share their stories and hearts. Our time there will be remembered forever.

We grew closer as a family and closer to Christ

  • 5 of 5
We want our blended family to be even closer. Our time together on the mountain provided an easy atmosphere in which to strengthen our bonds. The boys (10 and 15) had a blast floating on the rafts in the pond and fishing with my husband every chance they got. We played games together and ate together, and we didn’t turn the television on once!

As individuals, each of us also had special, transformative experiences in that place we called “Paradise.” Steve and Joy have created a peaceful sanctuary—a place removed from the worldly distractions which can prevent clear communication with God.

That wasn’t the only appeal. There was a palpable peace that “surpasses all understanding” on that mountain. I might’ve wondered if the source of that peace was one of several things: Steve’s impeccable attention to detail in the cabins and on the mountain itself—his many little touches that add charm everywhere you look (although he can’t make a family of ducks cross the road in front of us…) Or Steve giving tours and entertaining children with the many available activities. Or the novelty of seeing an Arctic wolf on the mountain, a wolf who’s sweet as a lamb. Or perhaps the quaint little chapel…

It could’ve been any of these, but I knew it was more. Steve and Joy have a calling on their lives. They’ve created a place where we can experience God’s presence and peace, where families can create memories together.

On Sunday morning, we went to the chapel, where Steve shared his story. He told us about what Memory Mountain means to him, and he told us the incredible story about how he came to build the beautiful little chapel at the foot of the hill. It’s a very moving and powerful story, but I won’t ruin your experience by telling you. You must hear it yourself!

Steve’s passion for pouring into families became even more evident when he had a little heart-to-heart with my 15 year old son. For a few brief moments, I just knew that he was speaking the words of God to my son. And that’s what our entire experience was like.

Whether floating in the middle of the “lake” in quiet stillness, on the front porch during the rainstorm, or in the middle of Steve’s testimony in the chapel, God spoke to each us. He told us that He loves us. And He reminded us that our identities do not rest in our performance, but in our position as His children.

We eagerly await our return to “Paradise!”

Wonderful Wedding Venue!

  • 5 of 5
My fiance found this property (along with the 4 other houses on the same piece of land) while looking for a location for a small family wedding. We managed to book all 5 cabins for a long weekend and invited all our friends and family to stay and had our wedding on the property. We had 3 or 4 locations to choose from for the ceremony and 2 or 3 for the reception. The property owners we WONDERFUL- friendly, helpful, always available, and accommodating. Anything we wanted, they would make happen, though they already had everything we could want for a rustic, simple mountain wedding. We ended up having about 70 people attend and this number was very easily accommodated. They have ponds you can fish in, beautiful cabins to relax in, and a secluded location that makes any family reunion or celebration a vacation. We were able to take the dogs with us, which make planning much easier for us, plus I didn't have the worry and expense of boarding them at home. I couldn't recommend this place enough- my wedding was beautiful and I will never forget it, or Steve and Joy for the role they played in making it so. We found our new family reunion spot!

  • 5 of 5
My husband, myself, my 2 toddlers, my 2 teenagers, my sister in law, brother in law, their 2 teenagers and their 2 toddlers as well all stayed at timberwolfe and we ALL loved it. We went up to see everything since our wedding will be there in June and it was everything we hoped for and more. It was so enjoyable, there is something for everyone, some of our kids love to fish and there was plenty of stocked ponds, some of our other kids love technology and there was wifi available for them, my sister in law and I love to cook and chat with everyone and they're was a big modern kitchen that was open to the living room so we could cook and still be able to talk to everybody, we loved it!! Steve the owner is great, he made sure to take time out of his day to show us around and get to know us some, you can tell he genuinely cares about the people who stay there in fact in the short time we got to spend with him we all felt like he was a part of our family and I have complete confidence my wedding is in good hands. I can't wait to go back!! Thank you again Steve for everything!!

Beautiful place for a wedding!

  • 5 of 5
My fiancé and I, along with our parents, stayed here for two nights to tour the property as a potential wedding venue. We quickly determined that this place was perfect – scenic location, amazing hand crafted cabins, quiet, everything clean and well kept. The cabins have a rustic feel, but modern luxuries – direct TV, wireless internet, etc. The beds are very comfortable and kitchens are well equipped, we cooked several meals there. This place is a bit off the beaten path, but only 30 miles from Asheville. The owner Steve and his wife Joy, as well as their pet wolf Lobo are the friendliest, nicest, and most helpful people you will meet. Steve and Lobo gave us a tour of the property and spent quite a bit of time with us and our folks telling us the history of the property and giving us ideas for our ceremony. Steve and Joy shared our vision of having a wedding in a nice relaxing environment, where our families could spend time together, getting to know each other. Steve also showed us his collection of antiques and offered the use of whatever we chose for our ceremony and reception. With Steve and Joy’s help, I am sure our wedding will be perfect! We are thrilled to have found this place and excited to bring our friends and families here for our wedding in September!

THIS IS IT! Cozy, spacious, authentic, spotless and right out of a novel.

  • 5 of 5
Our family and dear friends loves this group of log cabins. With sledding right out of your back door, the soothing sounds of the lake and the waterfall is just awesome. My kids keep talking about it year after year. This is now a tradition for our two families. We do a ton of travel and love four star accommodations. This place has it all. You will love it:)
Steve and his bride really thought of every detail when designing these properties. Enjoy!

Owner's Response: Great write up thanks. We have only just began. We are now having weddings and had 9 in 2013. It's amazing because we are booking 19 weddings so far this year 2014. We are continuing to improve property and cabins. November we installed all flat screen TV's from 50 to 60 inch wide. Our wifi in all cabins is now solid with much greater speed. We have received over 246 suggestion for improvements to Memory a Mountain. We have paid out dollars in payment for suggestion from our customers. The best give away was to a 13 year old young lady she not only made suggestion but she wrote them up and printed them out for me so proud of her. This a was a great lesson for this young lady, teach her to speak up. This is a theme at Memory Mountain let the young people learn responsibility, history, safe fun, and it goes on and on. We will continue to improve Memory Mountain. All our customers are partners and for that we thank them. Thank Joy and Steve Powell
