Playa Junquillal House Rental Photos and Description

3BR Luxury Vacation Home close to the beach!

Casa Del Bosque (House of the Forest) is situated in Guanacaste’s premier environmental community, Tierra Pacifica.

It is located within walking distance of Playa Junquillal and is near the end of a paved road providing quick access to Santa Cruz or the international airport in Liberia.

The home sits on an oversized lot surrounded by green areas. Trails from two corners of the property will lead you to the beach access or to the extensive club house which has cascading pools, a modern fitness facility, tennis court and hot tub. Morning Yoga and Zumba are offered twice a week in the club yoga room. Mile of trails will thrill even the most avid hiker. In fact, one third of the community is designated as green zones which provide an unparalleled experience with nature. Coffee with Monkeys is almost a daily occurrence.

There is a beach nearby for every occasion. Playa Junquillal, a blue flag beach, is a few minutes away and is one of the longest volcanic sand beaches in Costa Rica. It is incredible for walks, and has a coveted surf break at high tide. Playa Avellenas and the famous Playa Negra, featured in endless summer II, are ten minutes up the road. Playa Blanca, a quintessential white sandy beach, is moments away for snorkeling.

Our home is newly constructed with 3 bedrooms, 2 (1/2) baths, and an artistically tiled outside shower for after the beach. The large cooks’ kitchen has custom teak cabinets complimented by Italian granite counter tops, an island, 2 sinks, and stainless steel appliances and is the hub of the home. The main terrace, dining room, and screened living room radiate out from the kitchen. Upstairs is the owner’s suite with a bedroom(a/c), screened yoga room, full bath, and the “get away” room, a smaller room with a day bed and flat screen TV(a/c) for a cool afternoon movie.

The guest suite is off the main 30 foot terrace and includes a/c, teak bed, and luxury bathroom.

All beds and mattresses are of the highest quality providing the best possible sleep after your day in paradise. An ample laundry room with washer and dryer and ½ bath is just inside from the outdoor shower and gardens.

The home was designed to integrate with the outside environment and the natural surroundings. Windows and doors were designed to capture sight lines and cross breezes. Consequently the home remains cool and comfortable throughout the year.

A short walk from the home you can be at the Tierra Pacifica commercial center where you will find a grocery store, Amigo’s restaurant, a doctor, and the local veterinary clinic. There are many amazing restaurants nearby ranging from typical Costa Rican dishes to French cuisine. Please respect and enjoy Costa Rica’s natural resources and radiant people!

About Kim and John Frigault

We have been exploring Costa Rica for the past fifteen years and we always returned to Junquillal for the quiet beaches, interaction with nature and the local smiling faces. We owned a ranch in a town called Venado just south of Junquillal with horses and cattle but when the opportunity presented itself we jumped at being a part of Tierra Pacifica Estates. We divide our time between working the summers in Vermont as Park Rangers and relaxing and enjoying the beautiful Casa del Bosque.

Kim and John Frigault purchased this house in 2011

Why Kim and John Frigault chose Playa Junquillal

Being from the forest we felt most comfortable in the incredible and diverse dry tropical forest of Guanacaste. Casa del Bosque literally means house of the forest. The trees that surround our home are majestic primary growth that supports an incredible amount of wildlife. In the dry season the trees blossom with intense colors of yellow, orange and reds that always make me pause. The community Green Zone virtually surrounds this property which insures privacy and an unparalleled experience with nature. You will not find a better place to view monkeys as we continue to support their corridor with special plantings. Just about every morning we wake, up brew some quality coffee, and sit on the terrace and watch the monkeys and diverse bird population begin their day.

What makes this house unique

Upon arriving you will immediately notice how open and cool our home is. Each area of our home takes advantage of cross breezes and sight lines. Staying in the tropics is about integrating with the outside environment so there is plenty of outside space both open and screened. Casa del Bosque is centrally located in the community so it is an easy 5 minute walk down a trail from the corner of our lot to the really amazing Club Arbol which has cascading pools, a lap pool, a complete fitness facility, yoga room, hot tub, Wi Fi, and tennis court. Down another path you will be on the beach trail and in fifteen minutes walking on one of the most serene beaches in Costa Rica. Most nights the sound of the surf will gently lull you to sleep.

The kitchen was designed for multiple chefs with long granite counter tops, a large island and two sink areas. Buen Provecho! You will love this house!

Amazing Vacation!

  • 5 of 5
AMAZING vacation. The house was the perfect home base for our 2-week stay in Costa Rica. We were greeted with some wonderful welcome gifts – fresh fruit and snacks – perfect after our long journey there. Beautiful accommodations, comfortable beds, perfect kitchen – we loved everything about it. My favorite aspect of the house was the screened in porch, where we finished our evenings listening to the beautiful night sounds of Costa Rica, sometimes even lucky enough to fall asleep to the sound of a storm. The house provided luxury accommodations in the middle of nature – the perfect combination.

Club Arbol was incredible – the pictures don’t even do it justice. The pool is three levels – kids’ pool, main pool with infinity edge and lap pool, plus a covered area with a table/seats built into the pool where you can enjoy drinks. And – of course – a giant hot tub. We spent every evening in the pool night swimming and watching the bats dine on mosquitoes – very cool. It was hard to get my 4-year-old son to leave each night. You can also have them set up the grill to use, so you can dine poolside. There is also a fitness center located right next to the pool – very convenient.

Kim and her property managers Brenda/Brian were so incredibly helpful. They were constantly available to answer our questions and provided so many great tips – including dining recommendations for Villa Deveena (a Michelin quality meal - don't miss it!). They even provided beach towels for us so we didn’t have to pack them.

As for the country – I can’t say enough about it. We explored many of the beaches – Playa Conchal being our favorite. Also, we visited Rincon de la Vieja – for fewer than $20, we were able to do an amazing hike, swim under a waterfall and see the many boiling pots surrounding the volcano. Such a cool adventure. We also loved just stopping in the sodas and markets to check out local offerings and meet new people.

Thank you Kim for sharing your amazing home! It was so hard to leave, but hope to come back someday.

Book This Amazing Property!

  • 5 of 5
Everything about this property was amazing! Don't second guess this one, just book it and you can thank me for the advice later! It is a new home, built very well with much attention to detail. The granite counter tops, tile floors, and wood throughout the home, including the ceilings, was beautiful and top quality, but kept an inspired Costa Rican feel to it. The owners have great taste in design and top-quality materials. The communal pool is a two-tiered, salt-water infiniti pool that you will never forget, which includes a separate lap below below! There is also a heated spa. Our seven-year-old son never wanted to get out of the pool and most of the time we were the only ones there so didn't have to worry about bothering others. Ronald, the property manager, was great, and even gave us some fresh fruit, bread, and freshly cut flowers to get our vacation started. He was very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and gave us great tips on dining, travel, etc. Make sure to visit Lola's at Playa Avellanas, but go before 5 p.m. if you want to order food. It has a great atmosphere and a famous chancha (pig) named Lola! Also, we were only a five minute drive from famed Playa Negra, where I surfed perfect rights for hours! Kim, the property owner, was helpful from the beginning and made the transaction re payment, etc. seamless, fast, and convenient. Thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful home! (Forgot to mention, we also saw [and heard] howler monkeys in the trees through home's custom-netted windows and yoga room!).

A Real Vacation

  • 5 of 5
A real vacation, to me, includes a really nice place to stay, that is tranquil and beautiful to the eyes, and yet still close enough to interesting places to see, and adventurous things to do. My stay at the Casa del Bosque provided all of that.
The owners are very nice and knowledgable of all the cool things to do in the area. The house is located in a secure community, with access to playa junquillal, nice restaurants, and plenty of information on all Costa Rica has to offer.
The house itself is beautiful. It has a well designed, open floor plan, with big bedrooms, big bathrooms, a guest suite with its own bathroom, and a kitchen I wish I had in my own house. I was not disappointed in any way staying here. I enjoyed staying at the house and relaxing with beautiful scenery, just as much as going out to the beaches.
My vacation in Costa Rica, at Casa del Bosque, was probably my favorite vacation so far. I will be back.....

Plan to stay at Casa del Bosque!

  • 5 of 5
If you are looking for a tranquil spot from which to experience Costa Rica, your search may well end at Casa del Bosque. The lovely, well-designed home is surrounded by a wide variety of trees, which attract a plethora of beautiful birds including songbirds, flycatchers, hummingbirds, parrots and hawks. The night sky is crowded with stars, and you will often awaken to the predawn roar of a male Howler monkey.

I like to sip coffee while watching a troop of monkeys swing through the trees or hang upsidedown eating their favorite flowers or leaves. Depending on the time of year, I may walk on a forested path to the ponds, quietly observing herons, egrets, spoonbills and woodstorks as they feed. A different path takes me to Junquillal beach with its crashing surf, warm sand and intriguing tidal pools. I also enjoy working out in the fully equipped gym and swimming laps in the awesome, well- maintained pool, both only a 5-minute walk from Casa del Bosque. These are a few of the many pleasant activities you may indulge in within Junquillal. Within reasonable driving distance are numerous beautiful uncrowded beaches, mountains, volcanoes, hot springs and rain forests.

Casa del Bosque is a very comfortable, quiet and elegant place to hang your hat while you explore Costa Rica.

Beautiful Place inside and out

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful stay in this house. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and the wildlife is AMAZING. Woke up in the morning to the monkeys just outside the windows. The house itself is gorgeous well laid out modern and spacious. The attention to detail in the house is beautiful right down to the hand crafted doors. The fresh air flowed so nicely through the house there was no need for the AC. Location within the community is perfect just private enough to feel alone yet not too "out there" the community neighbors are so nice and welcoming we felt like old friends with in a few days. Our 8 year old son was in awe of all the sights, wildlife and the outdoor shower was his favorite part of the house. The beaches are AMAZING there are 3 gorgeous empty beaches with in a few minute drive or walk. Not like the over crowded U.S. beaches... Would definitely recommend this property and will be returning again!

There are so many things to do within 30-45 minutes from our home. Everything mentioned above and in our pictures, plus zip lining, boat touring on an estuary, tubing, native pottery village, a 5 star cooking school, bat caves, yoga and zumba. We even have local fish/meat trucks that come by every week with fresh fish and organic chicken, not to mention eggs, yogurt, cheeses, etc... Your vacation could be as relaxing or as adventurous as you want. Or maybe a little bit of both!
