MODERN MOUNTAIN CHIC - YOUR LIGHT FILLED, DESIGNER HOME IN THE MOUNTAINS

Cashiers Lodge Rental Photos and Description

6 Bedroom/4.5 bath Lodge, sleeps 12-14

The Mountain House gives an immediate sense of sanctuary and calm when you enter. We furnished this house in a way that we constantly look for when we travel, but rarely find. Mountain rustic..(modern mountain if you will), with designer details, antiques and a refined casual vibe thrown in for a lovely eclectic mix. This craftsman style, genuine post and beam house has hardwood and stone floors throughout - no carpet. The Mountain House is also recently furnished, and everything in it is new(except for some antiques!)...so new top quality sheets, towels, mattresses, and furniture selected specifically for this home.

Cleanliness: It is top on our priority list as it is for most travelers. We have a top notch cleaning team, and you can be assured your vacation getaway is clean, top to bottom.

Convenience: It's also important to our guests to be close to supermarket, restaurants, and shops. While still secluded and pastoral, the Mountain House is just 5 minutes to all these things.

Detailing: It's here, in every room, not just some of them. And it's just one thing that sets the Mountain House apart. All the rooms are unique, with great detailing, from the ten foot antique French workbench coffee table in front of the fireplace to cool art throughout the house.

Family perfect: Aren't most of us looking for that special place that can make can those great family memories? Birthdays, anniversaries, reunions....the occasions that make you realize the time together is the gift that never wears out.

Space: For everyone! The great room is perfect for family gatherings in front of the soaring 24 foot rock fireplace, great in the winter season or on chilly summer nights...plenty of seating for everyone to chat, or watch movies on the HD television. Wifi, of course.

Family dining: A huge rustic trestle dining table that seats 10 to 12 easily, anchors the dining room. A large antique buffet against the wall for serving. Right by the screened porch is the open porch, where you can dine al fresco with your family and guests, enjoying the gorgeous summer weather in the mountains.

Cooking: The gourmet kitchen has beautiful soapstone countertops and farmhouse sink, TWO ovens (heaven), and a Dacor 5-burner gas cooktop...and everything you need to cook and serve an amazing family meal. Beautiful dishes and serving ware. Square dishes? We have those too.

Relaxation: Sure we all love togetherness (most of the time), but we also need some down time, right? Try the screened porch where I promise you'll spend a lot of time. The large daybed swing with tons of pillows and a foam mattress is the best place imaginable for reading or naps...and you may even sleep there one night! There are plenty of getaway spots for quiet moments.

Six bedrooms: Three bedrooms on the main level (1 king, 2 queens), with 2-1/2 baths (both with heated stone floors). Upstairs are 2 more guest bedrooms (1 queen and 2 twins) that share the bath. The 6th bedroom is a king on the lower level, very private, with glass doors and windows onto the back garden with lots of rhododendrons. It also has it's own bathroom with heated stone floors and a seating area outside for your morning coffee!!

Laundry: Yep it happens, even on vacation. But here it's easy...a beautiful (yes they can be) laundry/mud room just off the kitchen, and a side entrance (great place to unload groceries)...with top of the line front loading washer and dryer, and a lovely summer herb garden just outside the door.

No TV struggle: A lovely 2nd family room with HDTV is on the lower level, with big windows, built in bookshelves, mini-fridge and sink...and a game room with foosball and ping-pong. Game on!

I want s'mores: No problem. Just outside is a new boulder firepit with cedar Adirondack chairs perfect for a cool mountain night.

Location: The Mountain House is located in a gated, gorgeous neighborhood just behind the Country Club of Sapphire Valley...a lovely level road for walking, biking or driving (not so far out and up hairpin twist roads you think twice about going anywhere).

Activities: Done. The Sapphire Resort facilities with indoor and outdoor pools, winter ski slopes(great fun), exercise room, playground, two hot tubs and saunas, and massage...literally just down the street. You have access! Hiking, waterfalls, golf, fishing, shopping...it's all here. We're very close to Camp Merrie-Woode, and several top notch restaurants, including the increasingly famous Canyon Kitchen at Lonesome Valley, which is 5 minutes away.

LOCAL EVENTS:

*Groovin' on the Green: Most Friday nights in the summer, @ Village Commons...music at 6:30!

June 11th-August 10th: Sapphire Valley Kids Camp, half or full day. Reservations required.

I first traveled to this area hosting Great Country Inns for The Learning Channel, and found it was one of the most jaw-droppingly beautiful places I'd ever seen! The weather in the summer is so incredible for those of us used to scorching 90+ temps...warm days, but so cool at night you can light a fire. Lovely in the spring and fall....cozy in the winter...it was a place we always wanted to own a home, and now we do. We hope you plan a visit to share the mountains with us. Warning: you may buy a house too!

Donna Hamilton Paulson purchased this lodge in 2012

Having stayed in several houses here, we found it's better to be conveniently located...some properties are waaaaay out (or up-you may not know this until you arrive), and the drive at night can be...well... disconcerting, especially if you suffer from motion sickness. You think twice about going out for dinner, or even to the grocery store, so while we're private, everything is right there!

The moment you walk into the great room, you know you're gonna love this house. And we are always adding things we think our guests will enjoy. Please let us know if you thing there's something we need !

FOURTH OF JULY FAMILY REUNION

  • 5 of 5
This was our first year in Sapphire Valley, and we sure picked a winner!! My family of 12 was comfortable in the home for the first week, when we were all there. When they left I stayed two more weeks. Two couples then came at separate times to visit, and they adored the home.
The ambiance is perfect!! We gathered around the fire pit at night and just told campfire stories. The back screened porch was constantly in use. The huge swing was a favorite.
We also had ping pong tournaments and game night in the rec room below.
To top it all off, Donna was in touch with me by email letting us know the fun things happening in the Valley.Topping it off were the furnishings. Absolutely perfect for the setting. A winner in every way.

WEDDDING

  • 5 of 5
We can't say enough things about this amazing home. Thank you Donna. We were in the area for our youngest daughter's wedding. Your home made us feel comfortable and had all the space we needed. We had ages 4-almost 80 and everything was perfect. We held a brunch Sunday morning and everyone just could not stop talking about how lovely your home is. The Mountain Home was just what we needed to complete the fairytale wedding.

YOU WILL LOVE THIS HOME!

  • 5 of 5
The Mountain House was the perfect destination to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday. We had six adults, one child, and a couple of dogs - and plenty of space to spare. Somehow this house manages to feel like it's straight out of a design magazine while also feeling supremely comfy and homey. I could live on the screened-in porch alone. And the textiles! The rugs, the throws, the pillows.... every detail was considered. As for the area - this is such a beautiful and charming part of NC with so much to do. At the house you feel like you're a million miles from everything, but there are many great restaurants and activities within a 15 minute drive. We did several hikes and especially loved checking out all the waterfalls and swimming holes in the area. If you're looking for a little pampering while you're there, the spa at Old Edwards Inn in Highlands was terrific. Definitely expensive, but even when you book the smaller services you can hang out, have some champagne and use whirlpools, steam rooms, sauna, and heated pool all day at no additional charge. Finally, the host could not be more accommodating. She provided detailed reviews on all the restaurants in the area, as well as info on hikes and other activities. She was extremely helpful while we were planning our trip and was available during our stay when we had questions. If you're on the fence about where to stay, I promise you won't be disappointed with this house!

Owner's Response: Ashley, I'm so happy your trip to the mountains turned out like you hoped it would...and your Mom's birthday! And to have someone who stayed with us appreciates textiles so much? Love it!! Hope to see you and the family back again at the Mountain House soon!

DREAMY!!

  • 5 of 5
Our 3 children, their spouses and our 4 grandchildren (ages 11 months - 19 years) had a wonderful vacation week at the "Mountain House". From the moment we pulled in the driveway I knew this would be the vacation I had dreamed of us having. On the bench on the front porch waiting for us was a beautiful box with an outstanding carrot cake with creme cheese icing. Upon opening the door, a bottle of wine was waiting for us on the counter. As my husband and I walked from room to room trying to take in all the wonderful details I felt like I was walking through a magazine photo shoot. Not only was the entire home (every room) gorgeous but no expense was spared to create comfort. The sheets, mattresses, pillows, towels were all plush. The couches, chairs and most especially the swinging bed on the screen porch were super comfortable. The adirondack chairs around the campfire was so much fun. The bicycles were used every day. We cooked several big breakfasts and the kitchen was stocked with everything you could possibly need. The grand children, my husband and my sons thoroughly enjoyed the basement den, ping pong table, games and a chess game or two. My older grandsons watched movies in this downstairs area and I found myself sitting there in the afternoon looking out at the backyard and watching the sun cast shadows on all the beautiful ferns that were everywhere. We tried almost all of the restaurants that Donna suggested and were not disappointed at all. My husband and I had dinner at Canyon Kitchen and it was the best meal I have ever eaten. The ambience and the amazing grounds are well worth every cent. All the men and older grandsons played golf twice and thoroughly enjoyed the challenging courses. My husband took the grandchildren to the community center several times swimming and playing games in the arcade. That is a terrific resource for families with children and so close. From driveway to driveway it was less than 5 minutes. For myself and my daughter and daughter in laws the fun escapades finding unique shops was GREAT!! We all came away with great finds that appealed to each of our similar but at the same time different tastes and budgets. Every member of my family agreed that we want to make this an annual trip to Cashiers and stay in "The Mountain House". Thank you Donna, for your impeccable taste and hospitality.

PERFECT LOCATION! PERFECT HOUSE!

  • 5 of 5
What a perfect house for our very large family! We wanted a house that was close to Lonesome Valley where our daughter was being married and large enough to accommodate all of us. Hamilton's Habitat was perfect! It was attractive and comfortable without that "over decorated" look. There was room for everyone--babies, young adults, grandma, and even the baby sitter. The downstairs suite was perfect for hanging out and playing ping pong, but the day of the wedding, it was transformed into a beauty salon for the bridesmaids. The best thing about the house, though, was the well appointed kitchen--great for large family meals. Staying at Hamilton's Habitat made the wedding week so relaxing and enjoyable for everyone. Thank you, Donna, for sharing your home and making our daughter's wedding special.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed the kitchen Hulet, we really do try to to have all the things families need to cook AND SERVE a lovely meal...I hate it when a house doesn't have nice serving dishes! Love the bridesmaids taking over the lower level! Hope to see you soon.

"THIS IS THE HOME! SERIOUSLY, STOP LOOKING"

"This is the home! Seriously, stop looking"

My family spent a Spring 2014 week at the "Mountain House" (MH) #466128 for my daughter, Kelly's wedding. Everything was staged at the MH before having the wedding at Lomesome Valley, just 4 mins away. The large "bridal mirror" provided a magical moment for the bride, girls and mom. The MH was perfect to greet the many family and close friends who arrived in Cashiers for the event. By the way, Cashiers, NC is a vacation gem. The home was large with 6 very comfortable and spacious bedrooms, 4.5 baths, and an open living area that provides a warm and inviting feel. We enjoyed the game room and amazing screened in patio and open deck. We had an ongoing bocce ball tournament in the large backyard, not to mention our nightly gathering at the firepit for fellowship, reflection and smores. The host family made sure everything went as planned. Everyhting about our week at the MH was amazing. 5+ stars & will definitely visit again.

Cashiers is the most wonderful place in the summer for families...loads of things for the kids to do from camps to fishing to hiking to gem mining...and the same goes for adults(minus the camps). In the evening, there are many upscale restaurants for foodies and the weather is perfect. Warm sunny days...cool crisp nights that call for a blanket!

You have to save time to see some of the gorgeous waterfalls in this area...some are just a few minutes drive away. And while some require a serious hike, others are easily accessible.

The city of Ashville is a great day trip, just an hour or so away...incredible shopping and restaurants, lots of artists call Ashville home. And you can zipline ACROSS the city...yep, an in-city canopy tour.

And if you've never seen the Biltmore mansion...this is a must visit. Allow a full day to see the place...it's that big, and that fascinating. Good places to eat lunch right there.

White water rafting, fly fishing, horseback riding...it's all here.
