Fair to Poor rating
I wanted to review this listing because I thought the public should know that the photos for this listing give a false sense of what lies beneath the place on the whole.
*The building looks as if it has fallen into financial hardship. The hall carpets/halls smell like stale smoke and trash, and are filthy. The unit doors are in poor condition/unfinished. Many of the numbers on the units are written in black marker. There are huge holes in the ceiling, dingy lighting and tasteless framed prints.
*The condo ad misleads people by saying there's internet (it is not provided by the condo. There is only public internet provided by the building and it is weak).
Also, the ad indicates there is laundry (it is in the dingy and dark basement, costs $1..25 per 30 minute load in washer and $1.25 per 45 minute dryer load).
*The condo itself is dirty, dusty and moldy with paint chipping and water damage. There are two large fake plants that have collected a lot of dust over the years, looking as if they've never been wiped down.
There are no smoke and CO alarms in the condo.
*The bathroom: No fan. The toilet is industrial and sprays onto the seat when flushed. There is mold where the tile and tub meet inside the shower. There is chipping paint and mold and dust covering the vent.
*The kitchen: the dishes were covered with a film of dust/dirt/mold. The coffee machine hadn't been washed (there was dried up coffee on the lid and signs of lyme build up in the pourer).
The drawers were dirty, and there are piles of papers and miscellaneous and useless items in two of them.
*Bedding: 1 set of sheets were 100% polyester. The comforter was dirty. The other set of sheets are 50% polyester+50% cotton -by far an improvement over the shiny 100% polyester sheets. The owner ought to spring for two sets of all cotton sheets, and 2 duvet covers that can easily be washed after each guest checks out. There are plenty of sheet sales out there.
There is dust and dirt behind the bed that was there from day 1 of our stay.
Windows: the windows are big and the view of the ocean fantastic. However, only 1 stayed open/no screens. Blinds fell down repeatedly when opening and closing them, or with the slightest breeze or movement past them.
*Tiki Bar: this bar is right outside on beach outside. Open air with tiki hut roof over it+ tables outside of it. Noisy all day/night!
*** We were frankly shocked with the condo, except for the view. It ought to be fixed up to match the $ charged for rent!
Owner's Response: After 7 years and hundreds of renters many who have come back for second and third vacations this was the most unusual/strange rental that we have had.We are absolutely dumbfounded. Before reciting the story behind the story we would ike to address some of the “complaints”. The unit doors are being replaced in the entire building hence the reason some have the numbers temporarily in marker. “Tasteless” framed prints. I really do not know what to say. Yes, the laundry is in the basement and is in commercial coin machines and there is a charge of $1.25. Yes, the bathroom does not have a fan. Yes, we do have a drawer with “papers”. Those “papers” are menus from local restaurants and a phone book.
A few days before arriving this renter contacted us for a list of restaurants in the area that would deliver food to the condo. The renter told us that she was flying in from New England to have cosmetic surgery. When we told her that we did not have a list of who would deliver but that there were many restaurants in the area she appeared to become very agitated. We told her that our cleaning woman was also an Italian cook and maybe could help her with meals. In fact, something was arranged and our cleaning woman brought her home cooked meals to the condo. At NO time (11 days) did the renter mention to her that she had ANY problems with the unit, the building or its cleanliness even while the cleaning woman was IN the unit with her. At NO time did the renter contact me about the cleanliness or other concerns. If she did we, OF COURSE, would have addressed them immediately. She did email me about the wi-fi connection. However, I could not, after repeatedly asking, determine if she was unable to connect or was just getting a weak signal. Our cleaning woman subsequently told me that the renter contacted her prior to her check in and wanted to know exactly what kind of sheets and pillow cases that we had. She apparently was not satisfied with the type that we had. We have 2 comforters and they are rotated and washed after EACH renter. They are both replaced with new approximately every 6 months.
We have had hundreds of renters over the years and many return every year. October is booked every year to the same couple from N.J. for an entire month. We understand clearly that for most people this is a vacation and a time to have fun and relaxation. We try our best to provide a clean tastefully decorated unit, great location, great view at a great price.
