In a matter of 10 to 45 minutes you can be from the ocean play ground to the wonders of Kilauea! If you're a lover of golf the Hilo municipal Golf Course is a must play for the beginner or pro! As we are 30 minutes from Hilo - you're never far from anything.
Located in a secluded neighborhood in the Puna rain forest - this is the place to enjoy the best of Hawai`i for a family friendly price! With our 200 sq ft covered lanai - you'll be able to enjoy your meals or an afternoon hiamoe iki (nap) in the comfort of the relaxing tropical breezes.
As our house is newer - we've decorated it tastefully and tried to bring the feel of the tropics inside! We've also added custom artworks and photos from family and local artists.
The master bedroom has a queen bed, and ensuite bathroom. You'll also find a small sitting area to read or just relax and put your feet up. This room is large enough that you can also use the air-bed for extra sleeping. With access to the lanai - the master suite can be your personal retreat! On the other side of the house you'll find the other two bedrooms, and full bathroom.
The kitchen is fully stocked with all the comforts of home. All your cooking needs, plates, silverware, blender, microwave, toaster, rice steamer, coffee maker and more. The best part is the kitchen joins the dining area and living area to make a great room where everyone can hang out! Whether at the dining table, the kitchen bar - or relaxing on the couch - it's a great gathering place for your O'hana (family)!
Also available to you are washer/dryer located inside, satellite and wifi, phone, bbq, snorkel gear, ice chests, & games.
We first came to the islands in 2000, on an anniversary trip - and couldn't stay away! We fell in love with the big island of Hawai`i in 2005 and found we keep coming back!
Cindy Young purchased this house in 2012
We chose this area because it's close to all we love about this Island! The sound of the rain at night is soothing. The smells of the jungle around us and the quiet days are fabulous! We even love the sounds of the Coqui frogs at night! Our NaloNalo Kauhale will be the home we retire to in a few years.
We went to Hawaii as a family of five comprising my 80 year old Mom, wife, and two teenagers (14 and 17). We arrived in Hawaii at the Hilo International Airport, and rented a car while on the island (recommended). The host’s instructions on how to reach the home are great. The location is idyllic, exactly as posted on the website, and better in life. The fresh clean air of the location, and the flower lined rural road leading you to your final stretch home are an awesome bonus, The house is clean, and well furnished. The lanaii overlooks a wonderful, simply landscaped, picturesque front yard. Snorkling gear is in supply, and the basic amenities are all just like home. Even our 17 year old said the place was great! The host also supplied a binder of tips on what to see in the area. We visited Volcano National Park, some wonderful beaches and local snorkeling ponds, the big lava flow that threatened Pahoa, Waipo Valley, the old City of Hilo, Muana Kea Visitor Centre, took a day trip to Kona (west side of the island), and bought local market food out of Pahoa (just 10 minutes away). We stayed for the last whole week of March, 2015. The weather was wonderful. Whether you wish to just stay around the house and enjoy the setting, or to toodle about, this is a wonderful place to be. We would recommend this home to anyone without hesitation.
We rented the house for two months. It has a well equipped kitchen/outside BBQ if you want to eat-in...or you are nearby Pahoa Town if you want to eat out. The beds are comfortable. The furnishings are modern and house looks like it does in the pictures (so you won't be disappointed upon arrival.)
The home is well maintained and was a big plus for our trip. We have stayed other places and been plagued by mosquitoes/spiders, so we appreciate the value of good window screening and maintained grounds. The owners are very thoughtful and have worked on making a perfect home away from home!
Opening the front door I immediately had a big smile on my face. This home is even better than the pictures. I quickly noticed how impeccably clean the house is. If the decor of the house was not professionally done, the owners have very good taste. The decor just helps make you happier on your vacation! The floor plan is very open and easy to get to the lanai. It has everything you need and then some. It is so nice when owners anticipate all your needs. My daughter accidentally cut her finger and there were even bandaids. I cooked many different items and the kitchen had all pots, pans, dishes, appliances...everything you need. And everything is in excellent condition. The house is in a quiet area and tucked away, yet has very easy access to the highway. This is important because it is in a perfect area to stay while you visit all the great places on the east side of the island. Why stay in a hotel when you have all of this for almost half the price? I have stayed in many VRBO homes and this one is the best!
We planned five nights here after being on Molokai and it ended up being a great decision. The property is very well equipped from the kitchen to the beach equipment, coolers and all the extras. From the wonderfully spacious lanai we enjoyed many evening dinners. It truly is a home away from home and we absolutely loved everything about this vacation home. Absolutely cannot say enough good things about it or the great owners. I highly recommend staying here….just hope it is available for our next visit to the Big Island of Hawaii.
The house is just beautiful and has any and everything you might need. You don't have
a bunch of neighbors which is kinda cool. The town of Pahoa is lovely. Kaleo's has the best sauteed mushrooms I've ever had. The Malama (spelled wrong) market is fantastic. I wish I had known about it before we shopped at Wal-Mart. On the drive to the tide pools you get to travel down a lush green forest type of road. We went zip lining and did the ditch kayaking. It's slower paced in Pahoa than the tourist-y spots but still close enough to the tourist-y spots that people that like to "go go" will have things to do. I myself also just enjoyed the relaxation of the house and tv.
Our NaloNalo Kauhale (hidden home) is located in the tropical area of the Nanawale Forest & is Surrounded by the lush tropical feel of Hawaii. Our home is 15 minutes away from Issiac Hale Beach Front park where you'll find snorkeling, swimming, surfing and a hidden hot pond; Volcano Natl Park is within a 35 minute drive - a must see on the Big Island. You'll not want to miss our personal favorite - the Wae`Opae Tide Pools (Kapoho tide pools) which is a 15 minute drive - and the best snorkeling you'll ever experience! Within the area you'll find amazing hikes thru rain forests that lead you to volcano vents and amazing water falls. The historical town of Kalapana is less than 30 minutes away where you'll see black sand beaches and may get a view of the active lava flows! You can go also head to the lava cliffs and whale watch during the winter months. You'll not want to miss Akaka falls, rainbow falls, the local zoo, and the Volcano Winery! In Hilo - you'll find a great farmers market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the Lyman Museum, amazing restaurants & shopping. If you love to golf the Hilo Municipal Golf course is awesome and inexpensive too! In our historical town of Pahoa - you'll find great local eateries serving island favorites and great drinks!
After a day of snorkeling, sightseeing and swimming you'll enjoy coming home to a quiet place where you'll be able to relax on the lanai - sipping your favorite drink listening to the sounds of the rain forest watching the sunset.
