FROM $60, AFFORDABLE KAILUA-KONA STUDIO

Kailua Kona Studio Rental Photos and Description

This unit is a cozy 12x16 studio with all the amenities you will need.

This unit is a stand-alone structure located at the front of a house occupied by a young family with a 5 year old son. The unit offers a kitchen, dining area, queen size bed and bathroom inside. There is 7 feet of kitchen counter space which includes a kitchen sink with garbage disposal, microwave, double hot plate, coffee grinder and coffeemaker. The bathroom is equipped with a toilet, vanity and shower corner. The bathroom is separated from the main area by partial wall and a curtain for complete privacy. Right outside the front door is a small refrigerator with a freezer drawer. Also located there is a washing machine shared with the house occupants ( can be used anytime not in use). Beside the unit is a covered sitting area with a grill shared with the house occupants (can be used anytime not in use). This unit also has a screened opening between the top of the walls and ceiling to allow for ventilation and natural light. This opening may also be a source of occasional neighborhood noise at night on this short residential street. Due to higher elevation and ventilation the unit does not get hot and at night the temperature may drop to the lower 60's during the winter months. Everything is new, clean and in working conditions making your stay comfortable and convenient. We enjoyed it from mid February to mid March.

Suitability:

About Rod Hall

My wife and I live in Fairbanks, Alaska. After visiting the Big Island numerous times over the years we purchased this old house and decided to start fixing it up. The main house was built in 1972.

Rod Hall purchased this studio in 2011

Why Rod Hall chose Kailua Kona

This studio is very conveniently located if you are staying in the Kona area or your trips start from Kona. When we visit the Island we spend most of our time in this area and make day or half day trips from here, getting back in time to go downtown for a dinner. I also feel that this studio has about everything you will need for a vacation at a fair price. You can get to most shopping centers, restaurants and downtown Kailua-Kona in 5 to 10 minutes.

What makes this studio unique

This is meant to be a budget rental. It has the things you need but not necessarily luxury items. It provides a chance for a more authentic Hawaiian experience. You are not isolated by concrete walls, you may feel like you are living in a small Hawaiian community.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I have to say I enjoyed my stay. It was a nice, clean, and quiet little

place in a nice neighbourhood. It was perfect for a traveller like me who

doesn't care much for over-priced all inclusive resorts. I am very happy to

recommend it to my friends and family.

Great Value, Clean, New and Studio

  • 5 of 5
I had a fantastic and affordable vacation at this Kona Studio. The room was clean and well decorated, and the cupboards were stocked with all the pots, pans and utensils I needed to make meals at home. The fridge was large enough that I could easily fit all my fresh produce and groceries in it. I also appreciated that there were beach mats and coolers so I didn't have to purchase those. I don't think you could find a better value in Kona. The location is convenient being just up the hill from Kona shopping, and it was nice to be at a cooler temperature than downtown Kona.

Renting this studio in Kona with a great central location that made it easy to explore the west coast of Hawaii. The owners were quick and responsive to all my questions and a pleasure to interact with. I have recommended this studio to other friends, and I will definitely try to stay there again on my next visit.

Small but good place if you don't prefer big hotels

Small but good place if you don't prefer big hotels

We had a good time here. It is small, and you get what you pay for, but that was all we needed. We were out all day long anyway, so we didn't need a bigger place. The only disadvantage that we had when we got there, was that it wasn't really clean (dust on the floor, and some bugs inside) but nothing we couldn't handle.

Owner's Response: (Cleanliness) We always clean the rental for each visit. We've recently added some additional cleaning supplies to be available in the unit. Also, there is someone available to do additional cleaning if something isn't to your satisfaction but we have to be notified.

(Bugs) We recently stayed there 10 days and we only had an occasional ant. We kept our trash outside and ate a lot of our meals outdoors on the lanai. Most of the issue is when food gets left in the rental, even crumbs on the counter or food not sealed completely can attract bugs. There are a lot of bugs in Hawaii.

(Price) I believe the rental is generally better than a cheap hotel room, kitchen is typically not included in a standard hotel room. When I say cheap I mean over 100 dollars a night is the cost for the cheapest hotel room in Kona - we checked 2 months ago. Of course if you are willing to pay more for a nicer hotel room or condo it will have more amenities. We are a small family owned budget rental.

Thank You. We appreciate your business and will try to keep the rental to a high standard.

Great little spot

  • 4 of 5
I just finished a four-day stay at this place. It was a small, quiet, clean place in a nice, family-oriented neighborhood. It was exactly as advertised, had everything I needed, and the price was right. I would also like to take the time to mention how wonderful my dealings were with the owner, Rod. He was very responsive, flexible, fair, and accommodating on short notice, which I really appreciated. I have already recommended this place to my friends and family and would make the same recommendation to my fellow travelers. If I ever have the good fortune to return to Hawaii I will certainty stay here again.

Nice Rental for an Unbeatable Price

  • 5 of 5
You won’t find a better deal in Kona than this. The studio is easy to find and is located about a mile and a half from downtown Kona, so it’s close to all the shops and restaurants and you get an amazing view of the ocean as you drive into town.

The studio itself has towels for the walk-in shower, a hotplate, coffee grinder/coffee maker, microwave, and mini-fridge as well as utensils, mugs, plates, bowls, pots, and pans- so basically everything you’ll need to be comfortable. There are also plenty of power outlets for charging electronics and high-speed wifi. Additionally, the owner was prompt and friendly in responding to all my inquiries.

Overall, this unit is nicer than many hotels I’ve stayed in and costs only a fraction of the price. I would definitely recommend it.

Paradise vacation in Hawaii

  • 5 of 5
I want to share some experience of our dream destination for vacation. This year we got opportunity to visit Hawaii Island as our honey moon. It is such beautiful island to visit. Many of see sights, beautiful nature, plenty of wonderful beaches. These experiences you have to explore by your own. I would like to share some details about accommodation. It is small one room flat completely equipped. It is situated in near Kona about seven miles from coast. Kona is really nice city situated on west coast of island. You can find there nice big double bed, small kitchen, place for your dress (hanger and shelves), shower and toilet. Outside you have fridge, washing machine. There is also big grill you can use. In front of house is parking for two cars. There is little bit colder during some nights so long sleeve pyjama will be use full. Landlords live in the main house which is right in back of described accommodation. They are really nice and kind. They helped us every time. I can say that this is very good accommodation for couple. Most of time we were out somewhere and use apartment only for sleeping. I do recommend this accommodation. For us it was real nice for good money. We loved our staying in Hawaii, hoping that we will come back. I think that it is important to stay here for at least 3weeks to have enough time to see everything on this island. Go for it and enjoy.

(Street Address: 74-5148 Kialoa Place, Kailua Kona 96740) Our rental property is located in one of the oldest (early 70's subdivisions in Kailua-Kona) with an elevation of 972 feet. It is the first subdivision you will reach driving up Palani Road above Kailua Town. It is close to an incredible amount of things that the Big Island has to offer. Here is a generalized breakdown of some attractions / activities and time it takes to get there from our place. Restaurants, Farmer's Market and Grocery/Retail shopping from 5 to 20 minutes one way. Closest Grocery is Safeway and Walmart 5 minutes. Costco about 15 minutes away. Beaches are from 10 minutes Old Airport Beach Park to Hapuna (40 minutes N ), Mauna Kea (45 minutes N). Going South Pier and Kailua town 5 to 10 minutes, White Sands on Alii drive is about 15 minutes, there are several other shoreline places here as well and a fantastic place to snorkel here at Kahaluu Beach Park (20 minutes away). Further South are Captain Cook and Ho'Okena Black Sand Beach Park and Two Step Beach for Snorkeling. Even though the distance is not that far allow for about an hour to these places because of traffic. Well I will provide more information later because there is so much to do but I hope this will give you some ideas.
