Studio Cottage: one full size bed, pull out sofa bed, one bath with large walk in shower, full kitchen, fully furnished with all amenities on pristine lake front. New appliances, new carpet, private deck with gas grill over looking Thayer Lake.
100 feet of Lake Frontage on quite calm no wake lake surrounded by beautiful pines and hardwoods. World recognized Torch Lake is right across the street. Very private and quite setting. Thayer Lake is 1/2 mile from 2 marinas and the very popular Dockside restaurant on Torch Lake. Both marinas have boat ramps - Butches does not charge for their ramp. Butches has boat and pontoon rentals to cruise the Chain of Lakes. You can travel south on Torch Lake to Torch River into Skegemog Lake ending at Elk Lake where there is the quaint town of Elk Rapids and a wonderful boat friendly lake front restaurant with a great deck for outside dinning. Also you can boat north on Clam Lake to the Grass River and end up in Lake Bellaire ( great fishing lake ). The Grass River is a natural wildlife area with Swans and Loones. Truly an experience to enjoy for all.
Both Alden and Bellaire are 15 minutes away with restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacy ( Bellaire ), gas stations, and many very unique shops and dinning. Thayer Lake is 20 minutes from Shanty Creek Ski and Golf Resort. There are several great golf courses a short distance away. Taverse City is a 35 minute drive and Lake Michigan Beaches, Charlevoix is a 30 minute drive, and Petoskey is 1 hour away. Both are very beautiful cities on Lake Michigan and the drive is incredible. Mackinaw Island is also a popular destination and is a 1.5 hours drive and a really neat boat ride to the island - a unique day trip for sure.
In winter times there are many outdoor sport activities
which include: Downhill skiing, Cross county skiing, Snowmobiling, Snowboarding, etc. Thayer Lake is a great fishing lake. We supply a Rowboat and two Kayaks for your enjoyment.
This is a nonsmoking unit, however smoking is allowed outside. Dogs Allowed
My husband, our dog, and I escaped the lower part of the state to visit Russ and Michelle's lakeside oasis. The unit is on a very quiet little lake and has everything you need and more. Russ and Michelle were charming and welcoming. We had a wonderful weekend driving around, hiking, wine tasting, and visiting Shorts Brewery (several times). We highly recommend this place!!
We spent our mini honeymoon away here at this studio on Thayer lake as a cliché goodbye to the brides maiden name, which was Thayer. When we arrived it was late and on the counter was a note that our cheese, wine and champagne was chilling in the fridge and there was crackers and cookies on the counter top! It was a wonderful welcome for us! We enjoyed these goodies while watching a movie on HBO on their flat screen TV with a new sound system.
The next morning we decided to go on a boat ride, as there are two kayaks and an electric motorized boat to use. Michelle met us down by the water to give us some tips and she was wonderful to talk to. Once on the water the ride reminded me of the movie "On Golden Pond". It was perfectly quiet and serene and the wild life was prevalent. It is a perfect lake for fishers and those who want to get away to quiet waters to read and reflect. That night we ate at Dockside which was a two minute drive down the road with beautiful Torch Lake views and great service. The food was good as well, they even had some of the Shorts Brews on Tap! We returned for a night with the bonfire pit which had been set up for us by Russ. Perfect end to our night.
On our second day we spent our time on the lake and watched a movie. We grilled out that night as well, as there is a newer grill provided on the lake-side deck. The neighbors were friendly and brought us a small plate of some wonderful homemade Risotto for being such quiet tenants! It was delicious!
Russ and Michelle were wonderful, they live in the main house and were easily accessible. They were very knowledgeable about the area and were quick to advise areas that were similar to our tastes. They also gave us our space as we vacationed, so we didn't feel as though we were sharing the space with others.
We would definitely recommend this to others as a great getaway. The space was perfect, with a closet, kitchen area, living space, bedroom and bathroom perfectly spaced apart in a studio big enough for at least two!!
Our stay at Russ and Michele's studio over Labor Day weekend was perfect! The home was neat and clean. The location was a fantastic hideaway--the location cannot be beat. You'll find yourself close to the action, but off the beaten path on peaceful Thayer Lake. You won't be disappointed if you chose to stay here. My only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer! Thank you for your hospitality, Russ & Michele!
we had a great time at this cute cottage(just like the photos),and really liked the owners russ and michele(friendly and helpful). anything you need, they've got it. hope we can stay longer next time! nancy and tim
Russ and Michelle are delightful landlords. We found everything exactly as promised upon arrival, cheese, crackers, freshly baked cookies, wine, and even a chilled bottle of a Diet Coke. This is the perfect retreat for a single traveler or a couple looking to relax. Kudos to you for providing us with a lovely stay. With Alden and its own charm just a few miles away, this is address you want.
We were looking for a small cabin for my son's second birthday. Our original idea was to get it somewhere up north, on a lake, and close by to bigger attractions (such as Traverse City.) When we came across this studio it was everything we were looking for!
I called Michelle a few days before we went up there. She is so, so friendly, and we talked for a good 30 minutes just like she has known me forever. She gave me ideas on where to go and what to do. I told her that we were coming for my son's birthday, and she took it upon herself to get him cupcakes and candles. (Thank you SO much Michelle!)
The studio is stocked with everything from water, condiments, paper plates, silverware, cleaning supplies and bug spray; you know, the essentials that no body wants to waste vacation money on. It even came with my personal favorite: wine! There's also a fire pit, grill, kayaks, a dock and a boat that you are free to use.
Like I stated before, we were looking for something secluded but close to larger towns to go visit for the day... we didn't even make it outside of Bellair/Alden because there were so many neat shops, restaurants, and things to do for my family. Torch Lake is literally across the street, and it is one of the most beautiful lakes I have ever seen.
We did so much in those two little towns we are planning to come back and keep venturing a little further :)
Russ & Michelle- thank you for a vacation we will NEVER forget. We will see you again!
