We are a family of five from Calgary, Alberta, Canada that has vacationed in the Hawaiian Islands for many years. It is our dream come true to own a small piece of paradise and a privilege to share it with others. The property was built in 1993, the year we were married and vacationed on the Big Island. We are thrilled that fate has allowed us to acquire this amazing property as we celebrated our 20th Anniversary in 2013.

Mr. Rockefeller, who developed the area in the 1960's, said it best: 'A great beach deserves a great hotel'. The Mauna Kea Resort and Beach are hands down the best on the Big Island. Perfect sand, ocean views and manicured tropical landscaping make this location absolutely stunning. You will never want to leave!
Access to the exclusive Mauna Kea Beach, which is limited to the public, and the enjoyment of the many amenities of the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel make our home the perfect pairing of private retreat and resort living. The home boasts an excellent balance of modern sophistication and Balinese living to perfectly capture the spirit of the islands. Beautiful wood and marble flooring with custom-cove wood ceilings adding to the luxurious furnishings. The multiple outdoor spaces and expansive views of ocean, Maui, mountain and golf course make this property truly spectacular. Secluded a notable distance from the highway, the property is quiet and peaceful. Driving into your expansive port-cochere and entering the formal yet inviting entryway, you will be welcomed by the warm island breezes and soothed by the always sunny Kohala weather. Sublime.

My family of four and my mother stayed in the home for a few weeks. Great stay and our children ages 3 and 6 really enjoyed it. House is incredibly well outfitted for cooking, both in the kitchen and a nice grill outside on the deck. House was very clean and the owner and rental representative were very helpful. Mauna Kea and it's property is a special place and has arguably one of the best beaches in the world. We would highly recommend this home to anyone as the majority of it is on a single level, it's very well outfitted and a great open floor plan.
Our 10 daystar at Hale Ke'oke'o by the sea was a truly memorable vacation! We traveled with our children and their families to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. There were 9 of us -3 families-, and we had plenty of room and privacy.
The owners were easy to work with and very responsive during the rental process. We were warmly welcomed by the property manager upon our arrival, and everything about the home was explained. She also gave us info regarding activities and events taking place on the island, and she was available if we needed her throughout our stay.
The home is a bit of paradise in paradise. The owners have thought of everything and their home is spectacular - yes, even better than the pictures. The house is well maintained and spotlessly clean. Everything is provided - from beach gear to exercise equipment, etc.
Being able to cook our meals for 9 in the huge gourmet kitchen or barbecue on the lovely deck after a "busy" day was perfect! We were all able to eat together comfortably. The kids loved the pool and the large screen TV. One day they even opted to stay home just to play together there. Having the ability to use the Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince hotels and their awesome beaches and facilities was well worth the small extra cost.
Some highlights were the spectacular fireworks on Mauna Kea beach - so uncrowded we almost felt they were just for us. We attended Turtle Release Day celebrations at the Mauna Lani just down the road, and we loved exploring the tide pools in Puako where we saw 5 sea turtles up close! We especially enjoyed the views from the decks at the house- imagine watching the beautiful Hawaiian sunset and then swiveling your chair around to see the moon rise over the mountains. It doesn't get much better!
We highly recommend this property! This was the perfect family get-a-way. Our dream would be to return someday...
Pictures shown on VRBO website are exactly what the White House on the Sea is – amazing! The location was just right; offering both proximity to many nice beaches, restaurants, and shopping centers all while being retreated enough for some peace and quiet. The house was stocked with almost everything you'd need and had high-end appliances, including the BBQ. My husband, being a professional chef, just loved cooking in the beautiful kitchen. Picking up your own groceries was just a short drive away at nearby grocery stores. Very clean, comfy, and gorgeous home. Wonderful having our very own pool to cool off in and lie in the sun with complete privacy. Both patios were perfect for watching the beautiful sunsets. Loved the big glass dining table where we could all eat together. Nice having the ability to use the Mauna Kea resort beach and facilities, as well. CAN’T WAIT TO GO BACK!!!
We stayed at this property for 9 days in Nov/Dec 2013. We stayed there with some friends and 5 kids between the two couples. We had an amazing time. The place was beautiful and in immaculate condition. It is actually nicer in person than on the pictures, which is hard to believe! Although, the place only had 3 bedrooms in the main house, there was plenty of room for all of us and lots of room for the kids to run around. The gourmet kitchen was great and so spacious for all of us. The lanai off the dining area was perfect and we ate every meal outside. It was so nice to sit out there and listen to the birds singing and just enjoy the peacefulness of the area. The location was also really good and allowed us to explore both the central and northern part of the island. It was also close to so many different beaches which we went to everyday. The Mauna Lea beach was definitely one of the nicest and to be able to make use of the resort services came in really handy. The Concierge service was great and Lisette was so helpful. She helped us make numerous reservations (ziplining and swimming with dolphins) and made sure that we had everything that we needed. This house was so well equipped and had everything we needed to make our Big Island visit memorable. The owners of the place were fantastic at corresponding with us prior to and after our visit and provided a really good visitors guide/binder upon arrival. I would highly recommend this property to anyone that is looking for an amazing property, in a beautiful setting (right on the golf course and really close to the ocean).
We stayed at The Whitehouse for 8 days in January with 2 other couples. We were met by the agent who walked us through the house & gave us information about everything we needed to know. We were immediately impressed! She was lovely and the house was even more spectacular than it's photos! The house is completely stocked, there truly is nothing missing.....even soap, Kleenex, shampoo, conditioner, sunblock, skin moisturizer!! The kitchen is equipped with every necessity plus more! Condiments and spices made cooking easy as did the top shelf appliances. We were so fortunate to have been able to spend time at this lovely property and to have dealt with such responsive and kind owners and ,of course, being able to use the facilities at the world famous Mauna Kea Beach Hotel added to our fantastic stay. Five stars don't seem enough!
We rented this house for our annual New Years Hawai'i trip. We could not have picked a more beautiful place to stay. The house is absolutely breath taking as well as being well maintained and equipped. We were fortunate to get married on Mauna Kea beach during our stay and it was great to be able to stay within the resort. We loved it so much we have already reserved two weeks for our next New Years trip!
