We left the corporate world several years back and created a life that brings us even greater joy - it just doesn't get any better than this!
Ralph is an avid golfer and Barbara's love is horses and her life affirming work with women in retreats.
Barbara Alexander purchased this estate in 2012
We bought this home after falling in love with Beaufort and coming on vacation to Fripp Island. We found Magical Oaks, a hidden garden on four private acres of flowering trees and some of the most beautiful (Like in the movie Avatar) ancient oaks that I have ever seen. This sweet little community is a sanctuary for wildlife on a barrier island at the outermost coast of the eastern shore.
Something very special was here and we could feel it the first time we walked into this home.
It felt like a happy home and that much joy would be had here.
This was the perfect property for meditation. The perfect setting to create this special feeling that you get when you experience heaven on earth, where nature is still pristine and not overdeveloped.
The views from this home are beautiful through arched doorways and 28 foot wall of windows.
The kitchen was designed by a master chef with stainless steel and copper counters, inlaid island and handmade cabinetry from old wood.
The home is as majestic as the ancient live oaks that lead you into the driveway where you truly feel like you are going back in time to an old southern mansion with all the modern amenities of home.
This is not your typical 'rental house' with miss matched dishes and too few forks and knives. Everything is set up for comfort and ease like you would have in your own home.
The house feels brand new with comfortable beds that have 1000+ Egyptian cotton sheets and fluffy comfortors, plentiful closet space, towels that are thick and luxurious... Even has quality cutting knives, serving pieces, quality pots and pans - something we noticed was missing in past rentals. We tried to think of everything to make your stay comfortable.
What makes this really unique is the private paradise that you will find yourself in. There are beautiful resort islands filled with tourists and then there are secret little natural gems tucked away, offering something special that you can't find anywhere else in the world.
Thank you so very much for opening your beautiful home to all of us. We have enjoyed our stay here very much. It is such a relaxing place to come back to everyday. We have enjoyed going to Hunting Island on three different days. The kids really enjoyed playing in the ocean, we got to make trips to Charleston and Savannah both great places. We found two really great restaurants, Sweetgrass and Old Bull Tavern in Beaufort.
We took the horse ride tour in the beach which everyone really had a good time. If you are lucky enough you will get to see some deer. We did and it was fun to watch them. If we get the chance we would love to come here again.
We loved this beautiful home! From the moss-draped oaks on the drive in to the beautifully appointed and comfortable accommodations, we were speechless upon arrival! The home is on a quiet, secluded lot with plenty of room both inside and outside for family fun. The beach at Hunting Island is only minutes away and is a pristine, uncrowded beach with very little surf, perfect for little ones or timid swimmers. Beaufort is nearby with many wonderful restaurants, interesting shops and a lovely collection of antebellum homes downtown. The week went by too quickly and we can't wait to come back again! Thank you for sharing this delightful spot!
Location was accurate. Listing photos need more detailed photos of all the interior stairs. Two of our party fell on the stairs; stairs to upper bedrooms had no risers--that was a problem. Property was clean, well/maintained. Owner was helpful. We would recommend this property. We recommend Hunting State Park, downtown Beaufort, Johnson's Creek Tavern, the drive in movie, Plums restaurant,Publix.
This beautiful home on St. Helena Island was the perfect home base for our week of exploring the South Carolina coast! It is centrally located for easy day trips to Charleston, Savannah and Hilton Head Island - all of which we thoroughly enjoyed. The best days were the ones spent closer to "home" either kayaking from Hunting Island or shopping and eating in the lovely town of Beaufort. Magical Oaks is beautifully decorated and appointed with all the comforts of home. The back porch was our favorite spot in the evenings. The neighbors are friendly and the oyster beach at the end of the road is the perfect spot to catch a sunrise. I would absolutely recommend staying in Barbara's lovely home. She was a dream to work with!
Our family stayed here for 8 nights. This home is custom built with high end finishes and plenty of useable space. It has a kitchen that was meant to be used, including 2 dishwashers. Several in our family were not feeling well, so we gave the kitchen a good workout. We never had 2 dishwashers before, and it makes cleanup much faster. Three master suites. Very comfortable couch and beds. Central to many areas for day trips. Barbara was a pleasure to work with.
My husband and I had such an enjoyable vacation on St. Helena Island. First Barbara's home is lovely. The house had everything you could need and the beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed going to Hunting beach and also Port Royal , to check out all the birds at the cypress wetlands. The house is not far from Charleston, SC and Savannah GA, which we enjoyed seeing. We also like going to Beaufort and Hilton Head. One of our favorite things to do, was to go to Hunting beach in the evening. It was nice and hot while we were here and to go there at the end of the day feel the breeze and watch the tide come in was peaceful and relaxing. Barbara was very easy to work with and very easy to get in contact with. Thank you again for sharing your home!
I highly recommend staying at this beautiful home in St. Helena. It is a beautiful, tranquil place and the private beach just down the road is a wonderful place to walk and explore and very peaceful. The home with the three master suites are very spacious and lovely decorated. The kitchen has everything you need and you feel like you are at home. And grilling and sitting outside on the very spacious, comfortable wrap porch is perfect to unwind and relax. The area and the beach at Hunting Island is very nice, wide beach for sun and fun. Loved the city of Beaufort and staying at the home is a perfect location to be able to take day trips to Savannah, Hilton Head, and Charleston. We hope to go back again and again.
