~~~~~ This is -NOT A PARTY CABIN- ~~~~~
Sorry no pets & no smoking
Lifetime residents on the Pacific Northwest. Second generation owner of this paradise on the water.
Bob & Priscilla Avey purchased this house in 1953
'SUMMER SANDS' waterfront property was purchased in the 50's when I was a couple of years old.
My mother told my father, at that time, she would agree to purchase a lake home if...
(1) It didn't have a fast water drop-off
(2) No steep hills to get to cabin or lake
(3) Had a sandy gradual beach
(4) sun exposure most of the day
(5) and was a Deeded Lot (not leased) property........
~~~~THIS WAS A KEEPER~~~~
(In approximately 2007 we replaced the cabin with this lakeside 3600 sf home).
The location is perfect. It is at the start or Southeast end of the lake (saves you the dangerous drive up the lake). Only few minutes to the only town on the east-side of lake, 'Coolin' for your all your needed supplies re: gas, food or emergencies/ boat & Jet ski rentals etc. (see Leonard Paul Store web site) A easy 30 minute drive to the town of Priest River.
The sunny EAST side is full of fun filled sunny days. Our home is a newer built home completed in 2007. We have a covered 14'x50' beachfront porch that allows you afternoon shade & to be outside and enjoying your vacation even during a summer rain. The westerly sunsets viewed from the east side of lake right off our huge porch and dining room are spectacular. Our bay is in a somewhat protected bay with very little boat traffic allowing safer swimming. The water is also warmer on the southeast part of the lake. Excellent fishing right out in front of home.
This home and setting are beautiful, with great accommodations. We had 12 family members who all stayed quite comfortably, and we all had a lot of fun. Great memories were made during this special stay. Owners were very nice and helpful. Home was well equipped with utensils, etc needed. We were fortunate to be able to stay here for the week. Thank you Bob and Priscilla for sharing your lovely home on the gorgeous Priest Lake.
A beautiful setting for our family vacation!! The home was perfect for our family of 8 adults and 6 children! The grass and sandy beach areas were great for games and beach play. The lake front swimming is shallow for approximately 200 ft. due to the large sandbar which was wonderful for small children as well as water frisbee and other games. We have a 26ft boat that was able to dock by lifting the outdrive within the shallow area. We enjoyed the spacious covered deck where we could all enjoy an outdoor meal with ample seating for all! The mouth of Soldier Creek is just one house away where we used our kayaks nearly daily. Don't miss upper Priest Lake where we boated for wild life viewing and Huckleberry picking! Bob and Priscilla were most helpful and called us while there to answer questions we might have had. The property met and exceeded our expectations!! We will be looking forward to our next visit to this location!!
Although this is a beautiful house located in a gorgeous area, I am hesitant to recommend it because dealing with the owners requirements were such a hassle. The lady renter demanded that I must have my husband's signature on the contract even though he had nothing to do with this trip. She constantly contacted me to remind me that I had to pay the balance of the rent 1 month in advance starting 3 1/2 months before it was due. I paid the full amount 3 months in advance just to stop the notifications. Even so, she called me 10 times (literally) to remind me I had to give her a very large damage deposit in cash when I arrived, but told me she wouldn't return it to me in cash even upon our final check out walk through when everything was spotless. She did send me a cashier's check for the return of my damage deposit a week later.
Although there was a fireplace you were not allowed to use it.(nor the trash masher;
towels on the towel racks or dining room cabinet) She requested that you leave the blankets on the couches upstairs and you were not ever to sleep on any of the couches
The list of what you were expected to do to get your damage deposit returned included mowing the lawn, raking the sand, cleaning the oven, cleaning the refrigerators, moping all floors, spot cleaning and vacuming all rugs, washing down all window sills, removing any sand, leaves or debris from the porch,washing all bedding and towels and remaking all beds. For EACH bed not remade there is a very large fee. My sisters and I, who were the only renters, literally spent our last complete day there cleaning so we would comply with the requirements needed to receive our damage deposit back.
This is a beautiful home and I do understand their concern that some renters are irresponsible, but my sisters and I who are all over 50 and are very responsible and conscientious felt that the four pages of lists of cant's, don't and must dos were a bit too anal. Also I don't think you need to be the gardener for a home you only rent for a week.
This large and comfortable house sits on the east shore of the lake near soldier creek where a moose and her calf grazed peacefully. It has a large kitchen and ample bedrooms that are spread throughout the house so that light sleepers are not easily disturbed. The wide deck is covered and extends the entire lakeside of the house. A flat grass lawn then connects the house to the sandy beach and excellent dock. The views of the lake are superb. We spent much of our time on the wonderful deck. The Aveys are friendly and reliable hosts; we recommend renters employ the optional cleaning service. They were very affordable and efficient. We would stay here again!
It was my hope to find a beautiful home and property large enough for our family to stay together. This property fits us very nicely. The location on the lake is perfect for us because it is close to many of the familiar landmarks that have been part of our Priest Lake experience for many years. We have enjoyed getting acquainted with the owners. They have been very welcoming and helpful!!! I would highly recommend this property to others wanting to enjoy the lake while staying in a beautiful home!
Amazing, fabulous --there aren't enough words to describe our week at this beautiful home!!! We enjoyed every single moment of our vacation - the house is fantastic - we loved the big covered porch - this is where we ate every meal! The beach was perfect for everyone including our youngest grandchild who is three. Plenty of room for everyone in the home -- loved having four bathrooms -- everything in the home was immaculate.
Location is terrific -- we biked to Coolin (Leonard Paul Store), took long hikes, and of course swam and played in the lake. Kayaking was enjoyable -- Soldier Creek so close was a real plus.
Would we go back? In a New York minute!!!
Enjoy the white all sand beach in our peaceful protected bay.
We are walking distance (1.9 miles) to the town of Coolin which has the famous Leonard Paul Store (see their web site) which has groceries, souvenirs, Deli and ice cream & Espresso bar, Liquor store, boat/fishing licenses & WiFi.
The Moose Knuckle bar/cafe & Ardys Restaurant is also in town of Coolin for a great breakfast or dinner & of course huckleberry homemade pie and ice cream.
The town of Coolin has 2 free public boat launches and a Marina with boat gas.
We also have a fire station along with 911 emergency service with local Priest Lake ambulance service in Coolin area.
*Indians use to camp on our beach and fish for white fish & trout in Soldier Creek with their spears and bows. We have found numerous arrow heads right on our beach in front of home.
Right out our back door you have perfect mountain bike/SUV riding. Early each morning you will see locals walking and jogging to Coolin for their morning espresso.
Priest Lake 18 hole golf course is only about a 15 minute drive by car or take your boat across the lake and your gold cart awaits you at 'Hills Resort'. Hills is also a very special place to have a dinner by the lake.
Lake Trout & Kokanee are plentiful throughout the lake. We have caught and released 35 LB.Lake trout along with many great eating 2-8# range on light tackle.
~~~ Fall Fishing is a great opportunity to land that trophy fish.~~~
