Built in 1935, one of the last remaining Yale Cottages on Balboa Island. Located one house from prime South Bayfront on a street known as Storybook Row. 3 blocks from Marine Ave with charming shops and restaurants. A short walk to the historic Balboa Island Ferry. Recently remodeled. Kept the charm of 1935. It has the amenities of a great hotel in a beach house experience. Have a glass of wine on your private deck with peek a boo bay view. Come home from the beach and have use of the bbq in the shared courtyard. Play a game of ping pong on the glass and steel ping pong table.
My family has a long history on Balboa Island, dating back to the early 1930's. My parents met as teenagers on the Balboa Island Ferry.
Valerie Schnieders purchased this cottage in 2012
We were finally able to 'come home' to the island this past year and were lucky enough to find a 1935 Yale house with this adorable guest cottage. We have a larger than normal lot and the guest house has great privacy. We are one house off the So Bayfront beach and water. So lucky to have our location.
We stayed at this lovely little beach house for 4 nights.
It looks like it was decorated for a magazine shooting. Valerie did a great job.
We can definitely recommend it to anyone.
Balboa Island and it's surrounding beaches are well worth a visit.
We will be back.
Me and my husband chose to stay on balboa island for four days as part of our honeymoon touring the west coast of America. This was the perfect place to stay, the apartment was amazing it is decorated to an extremely high standard and had everything you could need. We loved all the personal touches the host had done including a personalised scrabble board and a bottle of wine for our arrival. The location is great it is just a short walk to the shops and restaurants and also so close to the beach. All in all it was wonderful stay and I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. We will definitely visit again.
This is a wonderful little beachside retreat that almost feels as if you are on a ship!
The decor is simple and nautical with lots of retro touches! Very cool!
The owner makes it quite special with unique personal touches. A scrabble board dedicated to our trip, fresh snickerdoodles from the local bakery and a bottle of wine greeted us!
Even the laundry room was fun to work in with its fun whimsical decor.
Balboa is a walkers delight and in the heart of about a million boats of all shapes and sizes!
We look forward to our return!
Me and my husband stayed in this adorable cottage last year for our 5 year wedding anniversary! It was so comfortable and had adorable beach touches! It was only a short walk away from the beach and many restaurants and shops! The owner was so nice and even provided a message on the scrabble board and treats from a local bakery upon your arrival! If you are traveling to Balboa Island look no further this is the place you must stay! We will definitely be back!
We came to the island to celebrate a friend's 50th. Rather than share a home with a large group we decided to get a little place of our own. I'm so glad we did! It was so quiet and peaceful there. Everything was perfect. The owners were very helpful and considerate and made us feel welcome with some nice touches that I'll keep to myself so that you're surprised.
We spent the evenings on the patio playing cards. Each night we made the short walk to the water and sat on the bench and talked. It was lovely. It's a quick walk to the bakery or to Starbuck's for coffee in the morning but you can have a nice espresso in your room courtesy of their Nespresso machine. Another short walk to the ferry if you want to head over to Newport.
The bed was VERY comfortable and the apartment is immaculate and beautifully decorated.
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at this wonderful cottage. The owners have the cottage decorated beautifully and the bed was like a cloud. Whenever we travel we often lose sleep because we're not use to the bed...but we slept like babies at this cottage. We especially loved the sound of the waves and the seals barking at night...very charming.
We mostly cooked in because we adhere to a special diet and everything was there for us to cook with. We'd eat our breakfast every morning on the deck and enjoyed the privacy and weather! We hope to return very soon!!!
