|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
Vacationers, if you're looking for a perfectly quiet setting where the sounds of a cascading waterfall spilling down into the creek and birds chirping are the only sounds you hear - this is it!!! Pictures and words cannot begin to depict this peaceful setting - you'll have to experience it yourself....Situated only 4 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway in Wilkes Co., and tucked away with end of the road privacy on 9 acres, it's a true treasure. Be prepared to drive through two small streams as you travel back into the woods for 1/2 mile into the hollow off the main road to the property. (No low profile vehicles or sports cars). Once there, sitting on the front porch or enjoying a meal outside at the picnic table while watching the water cascade down the mountain and in front of the cabin will bring true relaxation to your heart and mind. Inside, the great room offers comfy seating, a gas log fireplace and a large flat-screen TV offering local and premium channels on Direct TV. The main level also offers a spacious kitchen with all the needed utensils and appliances for preparing a family meal and a dining area that doubles as a great place for playing a game of cards. A spacious bath with step-in slate shower offers dual over-sized shower heads for your enjoyment. A small bedroom with twin bed and laundry area is also on this level. The upstairs loft offers two sleeping areas-the first one has a daybed with trundle (two twins) and is separated by curtains leading into the second sleeping area that provides a comfy queen bed with Select Comfort mattress and satellite TV. Downstairs is the master bedroom with double doors leading out to the yard and hot tub and is equipped with a comfy king-sized bed, TV with DVD and a cozy electric fireplace. Ready to relax?
We booked this cabin at the very last minute of MLK weekend. The kids were out of school and we needed a place to escape -- This property has it ALL. Waterfall, hot tub, hammock, fire pit, hiking trails, large yard, PRIVACY! and that's just the outside. Indoors, the house is so charming and cute. For an older house built into the side of a mountain, the owners have done a great job updating it and making it feel cozy and clean!! The master bath has dual shower heads and was large enough for ALL of us at once! Even though the Master Bedroom is downstairs, our kids were a little scared to sleep so far away from us (kid space is upstairs in loft) so we made the sleeping arrangements work by sleeping upstairs with them :) Although one night our daughter convinced my husband to sleep with her in the twin bunk beds located in the laundry room. This sounds strange, but it's actually a brilliant use of space (so much so, I've come home to eyeball my own laundry room envisioning a makeover in there!!). The kitchen was ample and the Living and Dining space was perfect. My only "complaint" is the huge fireplace is gas operated -- I would think a place like this would be better served by a real wood burning fireplace. We didn't use the fireplace as much for this reason -- I'm just not a fan of gas; makes me a little nervous.
The hot tub also needed a little maintenance; we never could get it to truly be "hot" but it was warm enough to get in anyway. Another note about the hot tub -- this is a SHALLOW hot tub -- perfect for kids or short people, but my husband is 6'3" and I'm 5'8" so we didn't enjoy the experience as much, but as long as the kids were happy that's okay.
The fire pit up by the waterfall got LOTS of action -- we kept a fire going most of the day/night. We enjoyed a picnic lunch by the fire as well as S'mores after dinner.
We also LOVED having our family dog be able to come with us. We so appreciate owners who open their home to pets.
This was a great winter weekend getaway. We never left the house! We will definitely book this place again. It was so nice to unplug and get away from it all. We loved that this house was so tucked away and private.
First... LOVED LOVED LOVED
Secluded 1/2 mile drive to it and when you walk up you see one waterfall and you think wow that's nice, then you see the 2nd and you think WOW that's nice and then you see the 3rd and you stop kind of dumb struck and WOW THAT is awesome! The inside is gorgeous, the bed arrangements a little strange but worked. 1 twin in laundry room on main floor (yes there was a movie about that room and my friend who fits that description volunteered to sleep there and loved it) The main is also where the master bath is with the awesome shower. King is in the 'basement' or on bottom floor with no bath at all. Queen and twin on second floor/ loft. This is an adorable space. Queen is on one side and twin on the other separated by bathroom with tub (amazing). Each of these beds is separated by a curtain to the main floor so TV watching on main not real practical after putting kids down. Grown ups watched tv in the basement,only dvd hook up no cable/sat on that floor. Strange arrangement but we made it work. Kids ended up staying up later than usual, but that meant family time in the hot tub, which is great. Coffee / devotion time on front porch or on one of the many rocks or on the hammock by the creek was amazing. Firepit was by the water fall also. 13 year old daughter loved her devotion time up by the waterfall on the bench. 11 year old son loved venturing into the creek to search for creatures and found them. We hiked on the property and also on the blue ridge mountains. There weren't but 2 hiking trails we actually found.
Second... BUT.... BEWARE...
We did happen between massive rain storms, but the driveway is NOT for the faint of heart. We did end up stranded an extra night. There was no getting out as one of the streams was up to my knee with a ditch crossing it that was 2 feet wide. I'm pretty certain the storms washed a part of that road away. The owner was coming but we ran out of patience and moved small boulders to the road to cross it with our mini van. At one point during the flash flood advisory I would not have driven our 4wd wrangler out. Still question if I would have done that without filling in the gully. Though, it would have been fun to try. But that leads me to the other thing you are far far away from civilization. Again NOT for the faint of heart. We loved it, but grocery shop at the food lion which is 25 min before getting there and fill up on gas. Save yourself the trip back out.
