Lovely detached bungalow, with exceptional views of the Atlantic Ocean and the larger islands which form the entrance to Clew Bay, Co Mayo, as well as being close to Croagh Patrick and great mountain/hill walking country.

Cozy atmosphere, overwhelming views

Staying for a fortnight, we were able to take advantage of all the sight-seeing highlights as well as of the beautiful Louisburgh area with its varied hills and fantastic beaches, where you could even watch seals. After a long touring day we felt happy to return to such an inviting holiday home, enjoying a cup of tea with this stupendous outlook to the sea or just feeling comfy in front of the log fire.
We would hope to return again in a not too distant future!
Owner's Response: There is so much to see in this part of Ireland, but it's not that well known, it's a great place to watch wildlife - there's usually a hare to be seen in the garden. So pleased you enjoyed your stay.

I do not think that the photos on the listing do justice to this light, spacious holiday cottage. The lounge/kitchen/diner is the real high-light, with loads of space, enormous squishy sofas and a fully equipped kitchen. We thoroughly enjoyed our 'Irish fry' breakfasts every morning over-looking the bay and Clare Island.

The house is clean & very comfortable. Everything you need. We were met by Mary B who showed us the ropes. There were even bikes we were offered the borrow of, really thoughtful (if only we'd had the time- the week went too quickly)!

It's walking distance to Ocean Lodge hotel with outstanding views and excellent but reasonably priced food, we ate there most evenings. I also recommend The Tavern at the base of Croagh Patrick.

The only thing they could improve would be to have the beds made up for the guests. The clean linen was folded and left out but we had to make up all the beds ourselves. I understand it may be a time issue in high season as they take weekly bookings with same-day turn-arounds but it's a bit of a bother after a long day of travelling.

I do thoroughly recommend this property. It's well run and a delight. It won't disappoint holiday makers.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback, it is much appreciated - I will pass your comments about the beds onto Mary but as your review notes she is often very busy on Saturdays! I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay.

Spectacular Scenery and Location

The location of the cottage is spectacular. The front windows are large and provide stunning views of the ocean and countryside. The cottage was clean and comfortable with many books, cooking utensils, and a nice sitting area. The cottage was well laid out. The manager, Mary, was very helpful and friendly and provided us with local information and lore. It was a great base to explore the area from.
Owner's Response: Thanks for the feedback, it's always good to know that our guests enjoyed their stay.

Magnificent Viewing Window of Clare Island & Bay

We were uncertain of what to expect when we booked a cottage in the little known village of Killadoon 5 months ago from Australia.

However this has been one of the best places we have stayed in Ireland. We stayed for 5 nights and would have happily stayed longer.

The house is lovely and very cosy and warm. It has all the comforts of home and the view from the large window in the lounge room is stunning.

There are plenty of great things to do in the area - Clare Island, Croagh Patrick, Leenane, Coonamerra, Westport and Silver Strand to name a few. The cottage is close to the pubs at Louiseburg and a pleasant drive to the shops of Westport.

We both enjoyed our stay at Clare Cottage and would recommend it to anyone. We were very fortunate to have great weather during our stay which was a bonus.

John and Anne were very easy to deal with in booking the cottage and arranged for Mary to meet us when we arrived to direct us to the cottage which was much appreciated.

Owner's Response: Great to know that other people like the house as much as we do!

The area itself is very rural with houses and farms scattered across the landscape. There is a bar and church within walking distance, and Louisburgh, approximately 4 miles away, has a selection of shops, bars and restaurants. The countryside is ideal for walkers, anglers, climbers or cyclists, whilst the nearby beaches offer opportunities for digging sandcastles, surfing, canoeing or just aimless wandering. Local beaches include Cross Strand and Carrownisky, both famous for their surf, Killadoon beach is within walking distance (aprox 1mile) whilst the spectacular Silver Strand is a short drive away.

Croagh Patrick, Ireland's Holy Mountain, can be clearly seen from the house as can Clare Island, home of the sixteenth century pirate queen Grace O’Malley. A visit by boat from Roonagh Point, about four miles away, is very popular with visitors. There are also regular boat services to Inish Turk, which is a little further out than Clare, and well worth a visit.

Notes:
The spacious L shaped living/dining/kitchen area is simply and tastefully furnished and decorated, in complementary shares of blue and cream, using natural materials to create a wonderfully relaxing room. Wood laminate flooring throughout with cream wool rugs, the luxurious dark blue Italian leather three piece suite is positioned to enjoy the panoramic views of the coastline from the floor to ceiling window. Three large radiators provide plenty of heat, but the local stone fireplace, with stylish cast iron multi fuel stove and stone mantel, gives a comforting glow on a cold or wet day. The dining area has a good sized table and six chairs, with views of Clare Island through the patio doors. Pictures and lighting complete the scene, together with 32’ LCD TV, DVD, stereo CD/cassette/radio player, books, games and jigsaws provide diversion if needed. A breakfast bar separates the well equipped kitchen area which has dishwasher, electric cooker with ceramic hob & double oven.
