About Steve Ferrante

We met during our sophomore year of college at Baylor University. One month after we graduated we were married! That was 45 years, 2 kids and 7 grandchildren ago. During our time together I was a minster and my wife was a high school teacher; now we are retired.

We also worked in the mission field for some time. We spent 5 months in Spain and 5 years in Kenya helping the people there and learning many valuable life lessons from them as well.

Steve Ferrante purchased this house in 1994

Why Steve Ferrante chose Estes Park

“We were looking for three characteristics when we bought this 1923 vintage cabin twenty years ago…and we found them! A breath-taking view of the big mountains, a moss-rock fireplace, and an expansive covered front porch with panoramic views of Longs Peak = wow!”

Located at the end of a quiet street The Joy Cabin renders privacy only 1.8 miles from downtown Estes Park. When some people come to the mountains, they want to relax… they long to spend peaceful hours being refreshed by the mountain air, observing elk and deer in the front yard along with hummingbirds and bluebirds, and hearing the breeze through the centuries old ponderosa pines on this two-thirds of an acre property. Others may enjoy hiking, biking, or climbing while many love to eat out, take in a movie or stroll down the river-walk shopping, eating caramel corn or a delicious ice cream cone! Estes Park is an ideal vacation spot to do what you enjoy.

The vaulted ceiling in the sun-room/dining room of The Joy Cabin provides a sunny greeting for a first cup of coffee! The remodeled kitchen includes a front-loading washer and dryer, a stainless Kitchenaide dishwasher, and all the amenities of your home away from home. A cable 46” flat screen TV and WiFi along with a landline telephone enable you to connect with the world (if you so choose) or you may just want to lie in the hammock and read a good book; either is possible on this vacation.

Two cozy bedrooms upstairs allow for privacy. The larger bedroom provides one queen bed and a trundle with two twin beds. The other bedroom contains a double bed and a pack ‘n play if necessary. The master suite on the main floor is furnished with a cedar log queen bed, a wood burning stove and its own private three-piece bathroom. A vaulted ceiling and multiple windows simply bring the outdoors inside.

What makes this house unique

Within walking distance of R.M.N.P., private setting, beautiful covered porch with mountain views, large lot, no street light to obstruct the night time views of nature.

Cozy with lots of Wildlife

  • 4 of 5
Pros:Minutes from RMNP.Lots of comfy blankets, and a wonderful porch even in the rain. Over the 5 days we stayed we saw coyotes, rabbits, hummingbirds, mule deer, ground squirrels and a bull moose in the yard. Birds of all kinds abound, get a list at the visitors center. Great kitchen, and laundry. 5 adults and we never ran out of hot water.
Cons: As stated in other reviews the steps are steep, Linens are a little tired, but there are plenty of them. It would have been nice to have more glasses and coffee cups so we could have run the dishwasher less. As stated in the cabin book it takes awhile to run the dishwasher so plan ahead. Would be nice to have blinds on the master bedroom glass doors.

Absolutely a perfect mountain cabin

  • 5 of 5
We spent a week at the Joy Cabin in July. The cabin is exactly as described and then some. We had five adults and one baby. The cabin is north woods charming, rustic but modern. The views from the front porch, with Long's Peak in the center, were amazing. The sunsets cannot be described.

You cannot ask for a better location. Midway between Estes Park downtown and the entrance to RMNP. I must mention the convenient stop light at High Street and RT 36 that got you in and out quickly. We look forward to booking a week here next year.

Fabulous Family Fellowship

  • 5 of 5
Our family had a wonderful time at the Joy Cabin! After staying in hotels for a few nights on our way to Estes Park we were so glad to get to the cabin and feel like we were home. We enjoyed spending time sitting on the front porch, admiring the view of Long's Peak and the surrounding mountains. The kids took turns in the hammock, reading and doing devotions or just relishing the quiet and relaxed pace of life. We opted to cook many of our meals "at home" and played games, put puzzles together and watched movies. The entrance to RMNP is so close that we were able to go in daily and hike for any length of time. The kids enjoyed exploring the rocky hill out back, climbing and reading from their beautiful vantage point. We had a wonderful vacation together and would recommend the Joy Cabin to anyone seeking a great vacation home!

RMNP Enthusiast

  • 3 of 5
We have stayed in many private homes in the ten years since we started visiting Estes, usually with great results, but this was one of our least favorite. While the listing did say there were bedrooms upstairs, it did NOT say that the stairs are very steep and narrow, with a handrail that is extremely loose and flimsy. After just one trip up and down the stairs we knew that we would not be using nearly half the space we had paid for. The manager is apparently aware of the issue, as the binder of info on site warns against coming down the stairs in your socks, so I am not sure why at least the handrail hasn't been fixed. Also, the kitchen was not very well equipped... plenty of dishes, but very little in the way of pots and pans. On the plus side, the cabin was clean, is very close to the entrance to RMNP and has a gorgeous view of the mountains. We also saw several very colorful hummingbirds visiting the bird feeder. The bed in the downstairs bedroom was comfortable, and there were plenty of pillows and blankets. However, we ended up doubling our expense and moving to another rental in the middle of the week. I would only recommend this property for a group of people in their 20's and 30's who could handle the stairs with no problem and didn't plan on doing a lot of cooking.

Loved this little Gem!

  • 5 of 5
My family loved staying in the Joy Cabin during our first visit to Estes Park. The cabin provided plenty of space for seven of us, which included four adults and three children. The cabin was beautifully decorated and is accurately represented in the photographs. The manager was very easy to work with and the owners were very accommodating as we were traveling with a toddler. They provided a pack and play, feeding chair and gates for use during our stay. Another reviewer commented that the stairs are not suitable for small children. Although they are somewhat steep and wooden, my 6 and 4 year old had no trouble with them. They also loved the trundle beds.

As mentioned in other reviews the view of Longs Peak from the front porch is spectacular. There is also an abundant amount of wildlife to view from the cabin. We saw mule deer every evening, rabbits, squirrels, and a huge bull elk just down the road. The owner also keeps hummingbird feeders, and we loved watching the many hummingbirds flitting around the feeders, one of which is optimally positioned right outside the kitchen eating area. The kids loved playing in the yard, climbing the boulders in the back and watching the wildlife.

The proximity to the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park was also a real plus since we planned to spend most of our time there. It was so convenient to get in the car and be inside the park in 5 minutes. We loved our time in Estes Park and our stay at Joy Cabin. I will definitely check this cabin first next time we visit Estes Park!

Fabulous Cabin

  • 5 of 5
We absolutely LOVED our stay at this cabin!! It is older and rustic, but with all the modern conveniences, and it was decorated perfectly. It is a very clean and well maintained cabin. We found it to be more spacious that we expected which allowed lots of room for our family of 4, but would comfortably accommodate 8 people. Our kids loved sleeping in the trundle bed upstairs. The kitchen is quite big and well equipped which made it easy to prepare some of our meals during our stay. It is really close to the National Park, so we spent our mornings in the park and generally came back to the cabin in the afternoon to enjoy its amenities and the views. There is an incredible porch with a comfortable porch swing and 4 red rocking chairs with an amazing view to Long's Peak framed by the pine trees in the front yard. While our kids played in the front yard or read their books in the hammock, we were able to enjoy the grandeur from the front porch. There is a basketball goal in the front side yard and we were able to play a few games with the kids. It was really picturesque with all the yellow wildflowers blooming around us and what an amazing view to the mountains from the court. My son also loved to climb the rocks along the trail behind the cabin. I am so glad we stayed here and hope to return on our next visit to the mountains.
