Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5
Best holiday we ever had - 2 weeks in heaven.

10 of us-4 adults, 6 kids/teenagers- all loved it.

House was fantastic-beautifully restored- original features- exposed beams, oak floors, warm stone and terra cotta- period furniture-all necessities working perfectly-4 proper toilets, 2 showers etc. Rustic ideal with 21st century facilities-spotless (not always our experience when hiring villas).

Fully equipped kitchen- american and beer/wine fridges, dishwasher, washing machines - all top quality. Lots of glasses/plates etc. The sitting room has Satalite TV and a DVD player-Kids refuge when tired in the evening.

Two ensuite bedrooms.

Great Kids dormitary room-4 beds-they had a blast-Giggling all night.

Spectacular views from house.

We spent most of our time outside, lunching on the patio overlooking the sunflowers and vines (nearest vigneron is fab-5 mins walk-great white wine, Cognac and local loon juice-"Penau"), sleeping it off in the hammocks under their huge tree, reading from their library, splashing about in the pool.

The kids particularly loved the pool- roman steps and a decent shallow end for the younger kids, and a deeper diving end for the teens and adults-I'm over 6' 4 and when i stood in the deep end the water was over my head.

Things to do:

Really enjoyed exploring the Charente. Fresh bread from great local boulangeries.

The nearest "Resto" is 3 kms away in Meux-Nice bar, good food cooked over open Vinewood fire. Laurent, the chef/owner speaks english.

Jonzac is the nearest proper town- food market two mornings a week. Great fun buying our salads/fresh fish etc there - the kids were fascinated by the fish stalls. Displays are picture postcard.

The Coq D'Or resto beside Jonzac Chateau is a must.

Beach is 30 min away-also visited the local water park twice- great facility-water slides, wave machines, resturants-the works. Spent two afternoons at the Jonzac Activity park -our boys loved the Parcour climbing, my wife and i went sailing, friends went windsurfing-Sunburn all round.

Spent 3 days "doing" the Bordeaux vineyards, then Cognac- Chateaux like something from Disneyland-great winetastings- bought far too much-I recommend a visit to Blaye-30 mins drive away-Have Lunch in the Citidal overlooking the Gironde Estuary, then a ferry over to Margaux-spectacular.

Bordeaux city is a must - lots to see and great shops.

Hand on heart its the best house we have ever hired.

So Relaxing....

  • 5 of 5
Once again Chez Senant has not disappointed. It waved its magic spell on arrival and the most difficult decision during our stay was drinks on the terrace watching the sun set or on the swing seat, poolside!
The house is beautifully finished and the owners have a keen eye. We are a family of 5 - 2 adults and 3 kids, 10, 8 and 3 and the house is perfect for us. In fact it could easily fit a second family.
While there is plenty to see and do within driving distance of this gorgeous house, we found it very hard to drag ourselves away and tended to use the excellent facilities to cook for ourselves in the evenings, while trying to drag the kids out of the pool to join us. The night market at the local town of Jonzac is a must though!
The directions from the owners were perfect, and there is plenty of information provided at the house re. things to do in the immediate area and beyond.
I would highly recommend Chez Senant!

Wish we could stay longer

  • 5 of 5
We were looking for a break from our normal beach holidays, and wanted something that could allow us to completely wind down, but give us the option of some sight seeing as well.
We flew into Bordeaux, rented a car, and in less than an hour we were transported into our own time zone!
From the minute we rolled into the driveway, we felt at home. We could not get over the house. Everything we needed was at our fingertips. Then it was time to explore the gardens - pool first, then a relaxing half hour in the hammocks under the tree!
Jonzac has everything you need for the essentials, but we also found many local bakeries & small wineries. So off each morning for fresh bread & croissants, followed by the tough task of having to choose between the pool or the hammocks. One of the nicest memories is of us sitting by the pool about 5pm, in glorious evening sunshine, with a bowl of olives & a chilled glass (or two) of the local specialty Pineau.
The house is surrounded by sunflower fields (unfortunately not in bloom yet), and vines. We spent many evenings watching the wild life, through the changing colours, as the sun was setting
We ate in most nights - buying lots of local produce at the Jonzac market, but we also found a local restaurant / bar only a few kms away.
All our plans of touring the local area went astray, as we were too relaxed to drag ourselves away! But we did make a trip to Cognac, which we would highly recommend. It is a beautiful town, well worth seeing. We took a tour around Remy Martin, which was fascinating.
It was really tough to leave in the end, and we definitely could have stayed longer, but we have wonderful memories & hope to make the trip again (we need to stock up on more Pineau!)

Happy happy holiday

  • 5 of 5
I would highly recommend Chez Senant to anyone. It’s beautiful, comfortable, very well equipped. My partner is quite fussy about his cooking equipment, but this holiday he didn’t even unpack his knives and favourite pan. I’ve never stayed anywhere so relaxing. We were totally chilled out from the moment we arrived.
There were just the two of us and our dog, and we felt very greedy having the whole place to ourselves when it could easily accommodate two or three families. The kid’s room downstairs was super. The bedrooms upstairs were all massive and well furnished. There were loads of books and DVDs and games – just in case the gorgeous pool and stunning countryside got tiresome (as if!)
To our shame we didn’t explore much of Meux, but Jonzac was great, and fulfilled all our needs. The fresh fish at the market was a fine sight.
All the basics needed were there on arrival, so we didn’t have to go off and buy a load of boring things like washing up liquid and washing powder. And there was plenty of cooking essentials, oils, salt, pepper, spices, sugar etc.
Appliances all worked very well, and we even got to experience the extreme efficiency of the pool alarm when we had a visit from a large toad. All very easy to use.
The kitchen had plenty of cutlery and crockery, pots and pans. The fridge was a stunner, with an ice machine, so my celebratory G&T, after the 6 hour drive, was perfect. 4 hammocks and a row or sun loungers... what more could you want?
The owners we great to deal with, the directions spot on, and recommended day trips and visits were much appreciated.
The dog even seemed to enjoy her visit to the recommended vet to get her treatments at the end of the holiday. But she’s a bit odd like that. She really enjoyed chasing lizards.
I’m missing it already.

Beautifully renovated, secluded property

  • 5 of 5
In our experience there have been few properties of this standard that have provided the instant relaxation that Chez Senant did for us. The pool provided hours of fun and the views from the propery are stunning. The hammocks under the old tree are ideal to sleep off the heavy lunches.

The kitchen was well stocked with every pot, pan and tin needed to prepare meals including basic cooking ingredients. A real bonus.

The local area provided many bike rides including a trip to the very welcoming and friendly local cognac producer. Jonzac is a sleepy town but charming and comes alive with the weekily night market. We took a trip to Bordeaux (an hours drive) which is a stunning city and worth the journey.

Overall the holiday provided a very relaxing break leaving us rejuvenated and ready to go back to work / school / uni.

Idyllic French Farmhouse retreat!

  • 5 of 5
This holiday exceeded all expecatations. This is a spacious house, All rooms (3 upstairs and 1 childrens dorm) in the house are large with beautiful French antique furniture scattered throughout.
Perfect for families/ couples/groups wanting to get away from it all with fantastic pool, hammocks scattered under the large oak tree in the garden, football net and table tennis.
The property was clean and well maintained, with all essentials provided for. All new bathrooms and showers installed. There is a bbq which we used most nights and dined in the terrace.
The local town is quiet and charming. We dined in the 'Le Coq D'or' beside the chateau in Jonzac which has an outside terrace and was very good.
A list of towns and villages to visit were left in the house which was great for a day out.
