About Sheri Joy

I built this home with my own hands with my love of nature and our earth as my guide. It was my first Goddess Castle. I love my paradise and wanted it to be part of my home. It is built of the wood of my jungle and redwood for endurance. The inside is filled with full on logs. This is who I am a full blown ecologist, loving paradise. Wanting to share it with the world

Sheri Joy purchased this cottage in 1991

Why Sheri Joy chose Pahoa

Once you see my natural jungle all your questions will be answered. There are trails on this acre that make you feel you are in a National Park.

What makes this cottage unique

It is a place of healing visual serenity. The fauna and flora is wonderful. The lushness of the jungle renews your faith in the continuation of our world. The way the food just falls off the trees is so nourishing. You know why they call it paradise. It is my own National Park

Amazing jungle experience! Big Island at its best!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this place for our honeymoon and what an amazing experience. When you explore Big Island you rarely get to see the real jungle as there is so much old lava flows everywhere. The owner allowed nature to reclaim this land and the result is amazing. Most tourists never get to experience the real thing as most jungle areas are away from the roads. Going to bed with the sounds of nature is just amazing. I would recommend staying at least 4 days if you can as the region is fun to discover. Then make sure to plan at least 4 days on the other side of the island to experience the coffee growing region and its snorkeling. When staying here make sure to go on the Red Road, the hot springs, the secret black sand beach, Volcano Park and the new lava flow in Pahoa. There is also a fun get together spot that has live music 10 minutes away, where the road stops at the ocean. Restaurants in Pahoa are A+. I hope to return someday. Amazing place! Sarah the cleaning lady was super helpful and the owner is honest... she refunded us our deposit when we thought we could not come any longer... but we ended up making it... Sure glad we came!

Picturesque, rustic & wonderfully secluded

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were looking for something away from the touristy areas. Somewhere quiet and surrounded by nature. What we found here was perfect. The locals call this area, "Living out in the country." It is very rustic and simple. It reminds a person that we don't really need all the things we have surrounded ourselves with at home. Simple really is better.

The owner, Joy, is wonderful. She always made sure that we were looked after. We had fresh fruit and eggs from her farm waiting for us we arrived. She would call every once in a while to make sure we had everything we needed.

We discovered some very fun points of interest near the tree house as well. Ahalanui Park has some warm pools where the ocean water is heated by underground volcanic activity. The clothing optional Kehena Black Sand Beach was a great experience. You may find yourself getting caught up in the moment while you're there. There is no judgement and many down-to-earth people that go there. It's kind of like stepping back into the 70's, if you get my meaning. A lot of fun.

My Dream Tree House

  • 5 of 5

ALOHA!!! What can I say? It is everything that the reviews say + more!!! Our owner went above & beyond the call of duty even before we were there. Our whole trip was planned around our stay in the jungle and her advise. We sure can't get fruit like hers back home so I guess it's time to plan the next visit. After looking at the Tree House pictures 2-3 times a day when we finally arrived I was immediately at home. We collect the same antiques. Thank You

so very much for being such a caring and thoughtful person. Aloha!!!! Mahalo!!! Tarzan & Jane

Travel, refresh, renew yourself at the Big Islands Jungle Hideaway!

  • 4 of 5

We had an amazing stay, even though we lost power for a few days, the house was backed by solar lights so we were not in total darkness. The hostess was more than a just hostess, she was concerned that we were ok throughout our stay and she even opened up her own home to us. She took customer service to a level beyond and is an incredible individual that went above and beyond. The jungle hideaway is fully equipped, it is your home away from home. Initially, The outdoor shower did take some getting use to but once you hear the birds and coqui's all around you day and night theirs that peace and serenity that washes over you! You are totaling surrounded by nature at its best. Since then papaya has been named my favorite fruit, avacado, coconut and the tiny sweet bananas, all of these are at your fingertips just walk out - reach out and grab what you need it is all around you, freshest fruit you'll ever have. Thank you once again for a wonderful stay, for you hospitality. Highly recommend this place.

Such an original place!

  • 5 of 5

This place is exactly as described: a jungle hideaway. The outdoor shower, semi-outdoor kitchen, foliage, bird calls during the day and coqui frogs at night were definite highlights. The owner is incredibly friendly and helpful and she goes the extra mile. Heading out to Wednesday evening's Uncle Robert's Market was our favourite. The best food and greatest atmosphere -and a perfect spot to go watch the sunrise the next morning! The wifi signal is weak at best, but we shouldn't be online anyway. Wonderful stay. Thank you so much, Owner-whose-name-I-am-apparently-not-allowed-to-write!

The most beautiful place I've ever stayed

  • 5 of 5

Wow! This rainforest cottage is in the middle of the jungle and beautifully designed and decorated. The owner is very accommodating and sweet and made sure we were safe during the recent hurricane (Mahalo nui loa!). This o'hia log jungle cabin is unique and lovely with its huge windows, outdoor shower, loft bed, and eco-friendly design (partial solar power and compost toilets). There are vibrantly colorful plants everywhere and fruit trees, including gigantic avocado trees with some of the biggest avocados you'll ever see. The cottage is close to beaches, lava fields, Volcano national park, and the towns of Pahoa and Hilo.

All this beauty, and for one of the the lowest rates I found on the island.

Four of us stayed here for four nights and all loved this place tremendously. We were sad to leave. I highly recommend it and plan to stay here on our next visit to the Big Island.
