TRANQUIL LIGHT-FILLED OASIS IN A VIBRANT PARIS NEIGHBORHOOD CLOSE TO SACRÉ-COEUR

9th Arrondissement Opera Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 split bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Villa Dancourt has been a favorite Montmartre address since it was built in the 1930s. Josephine Baker and Charles Aznevour both lived here, and it's still the home of Parisian and foreign entertainers, artists, writers, and filmmakers. Long before Amélie Poulain introduced Montmartre to the world, Villa Dancourt established itself as a peaceful oasis in the heart of Paris's most vibrant neighborhood. From Villa Dancourt, on the border of the 9th and 18th arrondissements at the foot of Montmartre, it is an easy walk to the Opera and the Galeries Lafayette, and a quick metro or bus ride to anywhere else in Paris. And some of the best eating in Paris is steps away.

We even offer optional private cooking classes with a master chef - ask us!

Montmartre is the only neighborhood in Paris that’s full of must-see sights — Sacré Coeur, Place de Tertre, the Moulin Rouge — and is also a lively, affordable, real French neighborhood. “For visitors who prefer to search for the crustiest baguette and perfect melon and cook for themselves,” Elaine Sciolino wrote in the New York Times, “there is no better place to rent an apartment and pretend, even for a brief time, to live in Paris.” It has also become a destination for trendy Parisians from all over the city.

Our light-drenched, one-bedroom apartment is filled with Art Deco antiques and oak floors—but it's as comfortable as your own home. The cafes and restaurants of Montmartre are bustling with people till the wee hours, but from the apartment you won't hear any of it—Villa Dancourt is in its own private courtyard, with little 'French balconies' and views of the Paris rooftops.

The apartment has been restored to its original elegance, but the kitchen is completely remodeled and fully equipped, including a dishwasher and microwave. The kitchen is stocked with pots and pans and cooking staples—perfect for pulling together wine and hors d'oeuvres or for cooking a meal.

The apartment is on the 5th floor (6th U.S.) with an elevator, and is fully equipped with a washer-dryer; a modern remodeled bathroom with an oversize European-style tub, an American-style shower, and endless hot water; radiator heating in winter; and great cross-ventilation and a ceiling fan for hot summer nights. Other amenities include flat-screen cable TV, a DVD/CD/MP3 player, and high-speed internet (wireless or LAN port). Parking is available separately in a private garage downstairs at hourly, weekly, and monthly rates.

The apartment comfortably sleeps four—two in the bedroom and two on the sofabed in the living room. (Don't worry, it's not your parents' apartment, so it's not your parents' sofabed—it's super-comfortable.) Curtains on the French doors between the bedroom and the living room ensure as much privacy as you want. There’s plenty of storage space. And if you are here to get some work done, the most fabulous desk you have ever seen awaits you.

You will be greeted on your arrival by our wonderful Paris liaison, who speaks English and French and is available to help you should any emergencies arise.

Last minute specials for rentals of one week or more booked less than 2 weeks in advance - please check calendar for availability.

MARRIED COUPLE, MIDDLE AGED, COMFORTABLE WITH FRENCH LANGUAGE, HAVE VISITED PARIS SEVERAL TIMES.

  • 5 of 5
We found the apartment's efficient kitchen to be well equipped, the rooms adequately furnished, the bed, linens and pillows most comfortable, the bathroom roomy with great hot water and pressure (and a towel warmer!!), the washer/dryer very handy. We loved the many tall windows which offered great air circulation. Though in a busy neighborhood the apartment was quiet and buffered the noises of daily activity. Elevator was of a sufficient size for two adults with oversized luggage. The bookshelves offered paperback novels and a variety of tour books and French- English dictionaries as well as a great number of films. We liked the convenience of the central location between the Pigalle and Anvers metro stops. The binder of apartment info was most helpful and included some neighborhood restaurants that we enjoyed. On past visits to Paris, we stayed in hotels with small rooms and sometimes on noisy streets- but having had this homey apartment experience offering room to sprawl, we now feel it's the only way to go!

GREAT LOCATION, NOT GREAT APARTMENT

  • 2 of 5
The location of the apartment is terrific and so some may consider this valuable enough to stay here. There are a number of great restaurants nearby if you head up Dancourt toward Rue des Abbesses, including a terrific shop to get baguettes as well as pain au chocolate! Sacre Couer is within a 10 minute walk, and you’re right near two metro stops, Anvers and Pigale.

But any previous comments about how wonderful the apartment's Paris host, Brigitte, is, although they may have been true at one time, don’t hold up based on our experience. We never once met her and overall she offered no real help to us during our stay. She was really concerned about the keys but that’s about it. (We’ll also note that the owners were equally unhelpful in responding to our inquiries about basic things before departing to France.)

The apartment, we must say, is in disrepair. The towel warmer/dryer doesn’t work, the refrigerator door is broken, the Internet is sketchy, some of the lights are out or not functioning, and the elevator sometimes worked and sometimes didn’t. This apartment also really just has 1 bath, not 1.5, since the toilet is separated from the sink and shower.

Montmartre is a wonderful location in Paris and we’ll come back here, but we think the owners of this apartment need to re-invest into it a little to improve its condition for future guests.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the feedback. We get to Paris so rarely these days, we only know about problems when we hear about them from guests. We'll be going later this month to take care of these repairs.

We respond to all emails, questions, concerns, so if a question went unanswered I can only suppose the email somehow didn't get through to us.

A PERFECT LAUNCHING PAD FOR EXPLORING PARIS!

  • 5 of 5
An apartment with many great assets. A lovely and secure historic building, lots of windows and natural light, very comfortable bed, plenty of towels (often lacking in similar rentals), an inviting library of books, close proximity to the Metro, a few minutes walk north to the colorful neighborhood around Sacre Coeur, or the heart of a fun bourgeois boheme neighborhood to the southwest, and importantly a friendly and responsive host. Didn't try any of the many restaurants recommended in the guestbook, but mostly owing to not being able to resist the siren song of the many fine patisseries nearby and convenient markets to fix our own meals.

FABULOUS!

  • 5 of 5
My daughter and I had the pleasure of staying in this lovely apartment over Christmas and we had a wonderful time. It's bright, well equipped (with some lovely pieces of Art Deco furniture) and in a great location in the centre of Montmartre. We didn't want to leave!!

I really enjoyed my 2months in this comfortable and roomy appartment. It was exactly as the website suggests and is very well equipped. Whilst very close to the tourist area it was very quiet (except for the building site opposite, but that's just city living). Access to the metro was superb with 4 or5 stations within a short walk. There is an excellent supermarket close by and then there is rue martyrs for a gourmet hit and an excellent boulangerie just around the corner. From the appt a short walk takes you to the seedy Pigalle area and to the tres posh houses on the butte. There is much to recommend this appt. the booking was seamless and an enormous thank you to the Paris contact Brigitte. A great stay.

FREQUENT TRAVELERS

Fantastic location. Many family-run French restaurants nearby. Two wonderful bakeries within two blocks, including the "Paris -best baguette - 2011" winner. Carrefour supermarket a 5 minute walk, two greengrocers within a block. Easy access to 2 metro stations on two different lines. Unusually comfortable living room sleeper sofa. Quiet, bright, courtyard view apartment, two blocks to Sacre Coeur's funicular. One "negative" - toilet door right off the entry/living area, though in a separate room, as is common in France. Furnishings adequate. Full kitchen used daily for AM coffee, bakery goodies, evening aperitifs and dessert. etc. Happy to have a washer/dryer. Spent a delightful month here, early March-early April. A fine choice for up to four compatible people.
