Accommodation: Provencal Mas, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths and 1 Shower room (Sleeps 8)

Located in the countryside just outside Apt and surrounded by vineyards, this old Mas, L’Hermitage, has beautiful, unobstructed views of the Luberon valley, to the surrounding hilltop villages of Saignon, Bonnieux, La Coste and Roussillon. Centrally situated, L’Hermitage is just over an hour from Marseilles airport and 45 minutes from the Avignon TGV station. It is perfectly positioned for easy access to all that Provence has to offer. It is only 5 min from Roussillon, 15 min from Bonnieux and 20 min from Gordes, all listed as some of the most beautiful villages in Provence. L'Isle Sur La Sorgue, the main center for Provencal Antiques is 25 minutes from the house as is L'Ormarins.

The house is tastefully decorated and upstairs consists of 4 bedrooms, (main en-suite) with a further bathroom and separate toilet. Downstairs is a guest toilet, shower room, large lounge with electric fireplace, and a separate study. A small, well equipped kitchen opens into the dining room. The kitchen is equipped with a full range of new appliances (cooker with gas hob and electric oven, microwave, refrigerator / freezer, coffee-maker, toaster, iron and ironing board, dishwasher, washing machine, tumbledrier.) Further facilities include Satellite TV, DVD player and stereo, WiFi/ internet. All doors open onto a terrace and, overlooking the vineyard, is a large swimming pool (10 x 4 m).

About Gillian Surgey

We had the good fortune to travel throughout France for a couple of years with a team on the Tour de France. During this time, our appreciation of the country grew to the point where we decided to buy a property. We chose the Luberon valley for its beauty, good weather and country style living, and soon were the proud owners of L'Hermitage.

Gillian Surgey purchased this farmhouse in 2010

Why Gillian Surgey chose Gargas

The house is situated amongst the vineyards yet is close enough to the nearest bakery for the daily croissants and baguettes.

The must see villages of the Luberon Valley are all within 30 minutes of the house.

For those who enjoy cycling, the area is well signposted with a marvellous array of different routes. From short and flat along the old railway line which has been converted into a cycle track, to some hilly and scenic rides with plenty of different coffee stops. For the more serious cyclist, Mt Ventoux is an hour away and presents a great challenge.

The area is well known for the markets which move from village to village. The large Apt market takes place on Saturday, Isle sur la Sorgue on Sunday, Rouissillon on Wednesday and L'Ormarins on Friday, all of which are a must.

The two larger towns of Avignon and Aix en Provence both offer multiple attractions and are both approximately 45 mins away.

Visting towns and markets walking or cycling, can be tiring, especially on hot days, and the swimming pool is a necessary and welcome part of the home.

Provencal evenings are lovely and the terrace is ideal for long lazy dinners overlooking the valley. Food and wine just seem to taste so much better.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The location whilst rural is near to town and all of the necessary modern amenities.

The pace and quality of life is different to anywhere else and it is a privilege to spend time in this unique area.
