There are many board games, cards, children's books and a selection of novels (all ages) and magazines for a relaxing summer read. You’ll have all the conveniences including Wifi, cable, phone, bed linens, pillows, towels, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, blender, griddle, toaster, waffle iron, toaster oven, tableware, flatware, utensils, cookware, bakeware, serveware, fridge, stove, full size washer and dryer, gas grill, and deck furniture. We live in the Detroit area with our 3 school aged children. We grew up in Michigan - one on the west side and one on the east, and have vacationed in northwest Michigan since meeting in 1996. We have always loved the Leelanau peninsula and are so excited to finally have a home here. We've built great memories with family and friends already and look forward to building many more. Purchasing a home up north was a dream of ours and we love it. We've been slowly improving it over time; rescuing the home from inattention, the beach from disrepair, and the yard from major overgrowth. It's been hard work, but a labor of love to create a place we think is special...and hope you do too!
Mary and Brian purchased this house in 2011
We fell in love with the home the minute we walked in the front door and saw the view out the back windows (you'll see!). The open layout of the place was exactly what we were looking for. It's beautiful in the summer, stunning with color in the fall, and picturesque & cozy in the winter. We love the location with so many activities nearby, yet the quiet of being North of Traverse City. It's the perfect place to relax with friends and family.
It's great to be in an area where you feel 'away from it all' but also to have access to restaurants, shopping, grocery and hardware shopping, entertainment, wineries, a casino, and amazing outdoor beauty all nearby.
We had a great time at the house. We were two families with small kids. Property was in excellent condition. There were so many toys to keep the kids busy. We stay in vacation rentals all the time this property had by far the largest amount of toys we have seen. Kids absolutely loved it and begged to go back, while we were sightseeing. We will be back in the summer !!!
What a gorgeous place. Something for everyone! The water is amazing. The view is unbelievable! So relaxing
This is my 2nd time staying here and I feel it's like my 2nd home now, I've also recommended the house to many of my friends and I don't even bother looking for a hotel or another house anymore, I simply inquire about the availability and then book my stay. Super clean house, an amazing clean lake in the backyard, Bonfire, 4 or 5 Kayak's for kids and adults to enjoy, many games indoors to enjoy, beautiful and quiet sunrises, amazing owners who would go to the extent to accommodate you. Not sure what else you can ask for in a vacation...
Thanks Mary and Family for sharing your house.
My new Husband and I rented Mary and Brian's beach house for our wedding week this past week in Traverse City with some of our Bridal party. The house was centrally located near Suttons Bay proper and Traverse City and was a short car ride for all of our group to travel up and down the coast to a variety of destinations. Mary was beyond accommodating and worked with us on all our requests. At the house the group had a great time kayaking and roasting s'mores in advance of the wedding and on the day of, the ample public space let all of us girls get ready in the main living room with views of the water. Our photographer loved the locale so much I even got a couple shots of me in my wedding dress in their backyard facing the crystal blue water. We capped the weekend off with a Sunday BBQ using their plethora of kitchen supplies to rustle lots of food together. All in all a great trip with amazing hosts!
We had a great stay at the Birks charming beach home. Mary was super helpful and responsive and the place was extremely clean and well stocked upon arrival. Everything you could need to stay in and cook + all sorts of extra items on hand that were useful, especially for our two families with young children - we very much appreciated the use of the high chair, pack n play, toddler bed, and all the toys in the front room. To quote my cousin, "It's like this family moved and left all their stuff behind for us to use!" The Birks really welcome you into their home in this way. The only drawbacks and why I left off a star is that the beach and dock were not as well maintained as I would have hoped - the beach was in our opinion not for swimming nor the dock for walking on due to excessive seaweed, bird droppings, etc. We noticed that the surrounding beaches of those with permanent residents were much more well-kept. Surely this is a difficult aspect to maintain from a distance...still, it was a disappointment for us nonetheless. Additionally, the furnishings and bathrooms could use some updating; to some degree it adds to the charm, but felt a tad dated / worn. But overall we very much enjoyed our stay here.
This was our first time renting a house rather than staying at a hotel, and let me tell you, it was amazing, the house was spectacular, nothing beats a water front. It accommodated us as a big family, the many available games kept the kids busy, Bonfire was amazing, Kayak and canoe available, It was simply amazing, this was last September, now We are booking again :) Thanks Mary
