WATERFRONT, FAMILY-FRIENDLY, SPACIOUS HOME NEAR TRAVERSE CITY

Suttons Bay House Rental Photos and Description

Sleeps 12, 3 Bedroom, 2 Bath - Amazing View

A great getaway in a perfect location - 3 miles south of Suttons Bay, 12 miles North of Traverse City in the middle of beautiful Leelanau Peninsula and Michigan wine country. Spacious 3 bedroom/2 bath home on West Grand Traverse Bay with deck, dock, and 100 feet private sandy beach frontage. An open floor plan with large windows provides stunning views of the Caribbean blues of the bay and a great yard for playing and relaxation. It’s easy to fall in love with the area, and your 'home away from home' just like we did. We hope you quickly become repeat guests!

Perfect for families or girls' weekends with various spaces to relax, read, play games, catch up, and hang out. This home is comfortable, casual and you never have to feel 'on top of each other.' We’ve provided an overview below of what the home offers. Let us know what you're looking for to make your stay enjoyable - We're happy to help!

BEACH/PROPERTY - The property is on the water and has direct access to the waterfront - no roads or other barriers to cross. The sandy beach is at the end of the grass down a few steps, and features a bonfire pit perfect for roasting marshmallows and telling stories. The water is shallow for a long way out and excellent for children. Situated south of the Lee Point cove, the water is calm for floating the afternoon away. A dock, canoe, kayaks and sand toys are available for guest enjoyment. The water has a mix of smooth sand areas and some areas with stones/small rocks. Water shoes may be a consideration depending on personal preference.

BEDROOM/BATHS - The master has a king bed, and child size bed; second bedroom has a queen; and the third bedroom has two full/twin bunks. There is a twin in the game room, and a pull out queen couch bed in the family room. Two full bath rooms – one with two sinks and new tub/shower (2014); second with one sink/shower. There is an attic fan to pull in lake breezes and cool the bedrooms, ceiling fans in each room, and additional floor fans available.

AMENITIES – This is truly “home away from home.” There is a 'game room' with air hockey and foosball as well as a great selection of children's toys (Legos, Geotrax, Lincoln logs, Tinker toys, blocks, cars, doll etc). There are many board games, cards, children's books and a selection of novels and magazines for a relaxing summer read. You’ll have all the conveniences including Wifi, cable, phone, bed linens, pillows, towels, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, blender, griddle, toaster, waffle iron, toaster oven, tableware, flatware, utensils, cookware, bakeware, serveware, fridge, stove, full size washer and dryer, gas grill, and deck furniture. We provide body wash, hand soap, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, and napkins. There is typically a wide array of condiments and most common spices as well.

THINGS TO DO - The area hosts many activities; see the 2014 schedule below. In addition to the over 20 vineyards in Leelanau County, this home is less than 10 miles from the Leelanau Sands Casino, and close to local farm markets, shopping, excellent dining, golf courses, bike trails, art galleries and all of the many other attractions of desirable Leelanau peninsula. The Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes are very popular, and Fishtown in Leland is a great afternoon visit. Catch the sunset over Lake Michigan in Leland at The Cove and Rick's Café. Sample the wines of the Leelanau and Mission Peninsula wineries. Enjoy various outdoor activities or spend a few hours with the amusements at Pirate's Cove, or fishing at Veronica Valley.

NO SMOKING OR PETS allowed anywhere.

We live in the Detroit area with our 3 school aged children. We grew up in Michigan - one on the west side and one on the east, and have vacationed in northwest Michigan for the past 16 years. We have always loved the Leelanau peninsula and are so excited to have this home away from home. We've built great memories with family and friends already and look forward to building many more. Purchasing a home up north was a dream of ours and we love our place. We've been slowly improving it over time; rescuing the home from inattention, the beach from disrepair, and the yard from major overgrowth. It's been hard work, but a labor of love to create a place we think is special...and hope you do too!

Mary and Brian purchased this house in 2011

We fell in love with the view the minute we walked in the front door and saw the view out the back windows (you'll see!). The large, open, casual and comfortable feel of the place was exactly what we were looking for. It's beautiful in the summer, stunning with color in the fall, and picturesque & cozy in the winter. We love the location with so many activities nearby, yet the quiet of being North of Traverse City. It's the perfect place to relax with friends and family.

It's great to be in an area where you feel 'away from it all' but also to have access to restaurants, retail, reasonable groceries, entertainment, wineries, a casino, and amazing outdoor beauty within a 5-15 minute drive. You can't ask for more!

BEAUTIFUL TIME ON THE WATER!

  • 5 of 5
My new Husband and I rented Mary and Brian's beach house for our wedding week this past week in Traverse City with some of our Bridal party. The house was centrally located near Suttons Bay proper and Traverse City and was a short car ride for all of our group to travel up and down the coast to a variety of destinations. Mary was beyond accommodating and worked with us on all our requests. At the house the group had a great time kayaking and roasting s'mores in advance of the wedding and on the day of, the ample public space let all of us girls get ready in the main living room with views of the water. Our photographer loved the locale so much I even got a couple shots of me in my wedding dress in their backyard facing the crystal blue water. We capped the weekend off with a Sunday BBQ using their plethora of kitchen supplies to rustle lots of food together. All in all a great trip with amazing hosts!

GREAT FOR FAMILIES, ESPECIALLY WITH YOUNG CHILDREN

  • 4 of 5
We had a great stay at the Birks charming beach home. Mary was super helpful and responsive and the place was extremely clean and well stocked upon arrival. Everything you could need to stay in and cook + all sorts of extra items on hand that were useful, especially for our two families with young children - we very much appreciated the use of the high chair, pack n play, toddler bed, and all the toys in the front room. To quote my cousin, "It's like this family moved and left all their stuff behind for us to use!" The Birks really welcome you into their home in this way. The only drawbacks and why I left off a star is that the beach and dock were not as well maintained as I would have hoped - the beach was in our opinion not for swimming nor the dock for walking on due to excessive seaweed, bird droppings, etc. We noticed that the surrounding beaches of those with permanent residents were much more well-kept. Surely this is a difficult aspect to maintain from a distance...still, it was a disappointment for us nonetheless. Additionally, the furnishings and bathrooms could use some updating; to some degree it adds to the charm, but felt a tad dated / worn. But overall we very much enjoyed our stay here.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback and we're glad you enjoyed your stay. While we make every effort to have the place well maintained, and set up for our guests to have a perfect vacation, it's impossible to control water fowl. We do have the strings alongside the dock to limit where they land and mention in the renter binder about this. As far as weeds on the dock, that we've never seen. The water level is extremely high this year so that may be part of it. We do get the grass near the beach maintained weekly. Beyond all that, please know that you can always call us with any concerns or questions and we will take care of it. I think the other reviews bear that out.

This was our first time renting a house rather than staying at a hotel, and let me tell you, it was amazing, the house was spectacular, nothing beats a water front. It accommodated us as a big family, the many available games kept the kids busy, Bonfire was amazing, Kayak and canoe available, It was simply amazing, this was last September, now We are booking again :) Thanks Mary

WE COULDN'T HAVE ASKED FOR MORE!

We couldn't have asked for more!
  • 5 of 5
We booked this home at the last minute and seriously could not have asked for more. This was our first trip to Sutton's Bay/Traverse City and we're hooked! This house has it all...convenience, comforts of home, space, beach, yard, games, and a kitchen that is better stocked with dishes, pots, pans and small appliances than my kitchen at home! This being our first stay in the area, we weren't prepared for the road noise, but other than that, we loved everything about it! The owner is so responsive and kind that I feel as though I've made a new friend. Thanks for everything Birks!

Owner's Response: Sarah - we are glad you enjoyed your stay and I loved speaking with you as well. I'm always happy to answer questions and help make our guests' vacations the best they can be. I hope your birthday celebration weekend was a great one.

Regarding the occasional road noise, it's part of the M-22 vibe. We find the the floor fans or the attic fan provide both cool breezes and white noise for the occasional road noise at night which is more than outweighed with the spectacular view and fun of being on the water.

We'd love to have you back!

INCREDIBLE BACHELORETTE WEEKEND

  • 5 of 5
When my best friend Katie asked me what I'd like to to for my bachelorette party last year I told her "all I want to do is go up North, go tubing, have a bonfire and relax on the beach." She and I grew up in Michigan but now I live in Maryland and she's in Virginia. It had been so long since I'd had that "Pure Michigan" experience and I couldn't think of a better way to spend the weekend with my best friends. The house was exactly what we were looking for. It had a nice private beach with a great dock. The water off the dock was clear blue and great for swimming. The owners had kayaks and other water toys for us to play with. We spent one night playing a card game on the dock and enjoyed the stars and sounds of the water. There was a fire pit on the beach which we thoroughly enjoyed. The kitchen was large and well stocked. It made making meals for 7 girls pretty easy. The house has a large deck where we spent a lot of time, and one afternoon when it rained we sat in the sun room. There are plenty of beds for a larger group and the house was clean and comfortable. The house is in a great location with quick and easy access to Traverse City, vineyards, the Platte River, Lake Michigan, and of course, Sutton's Bay. This house helped to make my bachelorette party weekend a vacation to remember. I would recommend this house and would love to stay here again some day. Thank you for letting us use your beautiful home!

COZY WATERFRONT HOME NEAR TRAVERSE CITY, BOOK YOUR FALL OR WINTER GETAWAY NOW! |

  • 5 of 5
A group of my friends and I rented this home to experience the beautiful Michigan countryside for fall. The home was adorable.....so homey and comfortable! The location is convenient - we were able to see wineries, fishtown and the dunes easily. The lake view is magnificent and the owners have the home well stocked with everything you could need. Plenty of room for a large group. While I was making the reservation, the owner was accommodating and responsive to my questions. Would definitely stay at this house again!
