Why Melissa Freeman chose Isle of Arran

The cottage has wonderful views of the bay and hills that you can sit and look at all day or, if you prefer, go out and get into it! It has all the benefits of being away from it all but is only 5 minutes walk from the village. It also has lovely restaurants and shops within walking distance. We loved it from the moment we saw it and still do.

What makes this cottage unique

The lovely, uninterupted views are our favourite thing about the cottage. We love the fact that it's old and part of Arran's heritage and the added bonus that it can easily absorb so many people, making it perfect for family holidays.

Delightful. Exceeded our expectations.

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful time and really loved the cottage. Our family have stayed in many self catering properties over the years but this is the first one that we have instantly felt
at home in and found everything that we needed to cook the meals that we enjoy. It was really comfortable and warm. The fact that we could choose double or single beds was novel and convenient.
The fireworks were a great success and I hope we didn't scare the neighbours. The view was superb. Secluded but easy access to all amenities. The sun even came out for our last day!

Beautiful, spacious cottage with ample room for 10

  • 5 of 5
Strathwhillan cottage was everything we had hoped for: delightful furnishings, comfortable bedrooms and ample room for 5 couples to socialise in the evenings. Its proximity to Brodick (and the ferry) made getting around the island, shopping and going out for meals so easy. A fantastic place to spend a week (or longer...)!

Wonderful Cottage

  • 5 of 5
Our second stay at this lovely cottage, very roomy, cosy & comfortable. nice garden and terraced area to sit out in, great views over the water to Goatfell and only a short walk to Brodick, The cottage has everything you could need, also excellent disabled facilities and access. We were so lucky to have had brilliant weather. The previous week Arran had no power or access around the island due to the deluge of snow! The owners kept us informed with updates up until we arrived.
A truly peaceful holiday was had by all ( ten of us ! ) thank you

A fantastic stay in a wonderful cottage

  • 5 of 5
A group of ten we stayed in Strathwillan cottage for Hogmanay 2012/3. It was the ideal setting for a fantastically relaxing and enjoyable holiday. We came with two cars, but the cottage is also such a short walk from the ferry port that a car isn't necessary (there is also a supermarket within 10 minutes walk). The cottage itself has the most amazing view out over to Goatfell (climbed by some of our party) and also to the ferry coming in and out. All of the rooms are well proportioned, cosy and beautifully presented. Having en suite bathrooms for all makes life very easy. There is everything you could need in the kitchen to cook up a feast (which we did - every night - in festive style). There are also many walks which can be made straight from the front door which is really handy. For Hogmanay itself we happened upon the Douglas Hotel (at the end of the road) which had a band, dance, fireworks and oodles of prosecco so pretty much perfect! In terms of other activities we visited Auchrannie to use the spa and pool, had drinks in the Brodick Bar which also had excellent food, went for many walks and runs straight from the cottage. The cottage itself fantastic, Melissa (the owner) couldn't be better organised or more accommodating and Arran is utterly charming. So much so, in fact, that a couple in out party decided to get married there in 2014.

Great cottage, great island, great holiday...

  • 5 of 5
Strathwillan Cottage held a special appeal from the moment of arrival – it is a lovely, homely, well designed property which served our family perfectly for the week we spent in Arran. The facilities provided are first class and there was plenty of space for everyone to cook, eat, sleep and relax. There were 10 of us (3 generations of the family plus a dog) and we really enjoyed the time spent in the cottage both inside and out. The garden was spacious enough for games, enjoying the sunshine and eating out but was also enclosed so that both the little ones, aged 2 and 5, plus the dog could run around in safety. The cottage provided us with a fantastic base for the week, somewhere central from which to explore Arran and also to look forward to returning after a day’s activities – for us it was a comfortable place to relax and enjoy the evening. We had home cooked feasts, cooked in the well equipped kitchen, because as we had several great chefs in the family and lots of excellent produce from local businesses eg Arran butchers and Arran cheese in particular!

The cottage is in walking distance of all the main facilities in Brodick, including the ferry, and had spectacular views of Goatfell – displayed by sunshine, showers or the sunset – every day was different because the weather was very good to us (only one wet day!).

The owners have a lovely house, which we thoroughly enjoyed, and they were extremely attentive for booking and arrival – that was great too. All in all we had a fabulous week in a lovely cottage, on a special island – very special memories for all the family.
