This property is owned by two brothers who have lived in the Engelhard area and Hyde County all their lives. They are from a third generation commercial fishing family. They presently own a fish house business which buys local seafood. They have owned this property for several years and decided to build this lodge to give others the opportunity to come and enjoy the same area they have enjoyed all their life.
The Owner purchased this lodge in 2012
This area offers such great outdoor activities. We have lived here all our lives and know this is truly paradise for us. The outdoor opportunities are endless.
This property just offers the best access to the Pamlico Sound in the Hyde County area and a great way to take life easy.
My husband and I spent a week here and really enjoyed it. We came back for another week in September because we were very impressed with the excellent quality of the lodge. It was very clean, cozy and well stocked with kitchen and bathroom supplies. We kayaked every day, sat on the pier and watched the fishing boats go by. The owners Karen and Dell were very accommodating when we had a need which was seldom because everything was already taken care of. The sunrise over the Pamlico Sound was absolutely breathtaking, Martell's Restaurant had delicious food and service was great. The Dollar General had just about anything you might need or forgot to bring. We did some reading because it was such a serene place. We also watched a couple of movies, the t.v. had many channels, although we mostly stayed outside it was such a beautiful place and the owners were two doors down and very friendly! We can't wait to go back this year!
Absolutely first rate lodging!!! Quiet, secluded sound front location....very clean, well maintained property...owners on site and very helpful...super well equipped right down to coffee and paper products!!! Very helpful for motorcycle tourers like us!! Owners didn't even get upset when we showed up very late and "requisioned" their garden hose to use as a syphon hose as one of our bikes ran out of gas on the way to the lodge!! Would highly recommend to others!!
This property was an amazing place to go on vacation. The owners were very nice to us, and helped us with anything we needed. It was very clean and well furnished, the kitchen was fully stocked, we did not need the silverware or plates that we brought ourselves. The Pamlico Sound was quiet and relaxing, and the view was simply breathtaking. We were vacationing in the Outer Banks, and although it was a little bit of a drive to the beaches and islands, it was more than manageable. A great lodge for myself and my girlfriend, but it would also be suitable for a family that is on vacation. We were very impressed with everything and would recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing vacation.
My husband and I rented cabin #360 for five weeks this season. The accommodations were excellent. If we did not have what we needed, our hosts went out of their way to help us find it. They helped locate bait and ice. The cabin and porch look east over the water. The full moon on the water was awesome. The wildlife was spectacular. We saw black bear, deer, wild turkey, otter, 5 species of turtle, and enumerable species of sea birds. Englehard is a small remote fishing community on the west side of Pamlico Sound. We were able to find most of our day to day supplies locally. The soft shell crab factory was just down the road. The local restaurants offered great Sunday buffets. We were able to relax and get totally into the local fishing and crabbing opportunities.
My husband and I wanted a short retreat where we could get away, get a little sun and do some fishing. The lodge was relatively easy to find and is quiet. There is a small town where you can get supplies as needed – we picked up 10 day fishing licenses while we were there – and we had stopped at a grocery store earlier in our voyage so we already had most of our groceries. The lodge was very rustic and cozy. It was ample space for the two of us and had a fully stocked kitchen. There are a couple restaurants in town, and their contact information is provided at the lodge, but we chose to cook meals at the lodge instead. Our cell phones (Virgin Mobile) lost service two hours before arriving so I would recommend a GPS or printing directions to get there. There was free wi-fi so that was definitely a benefit, especially with our phones not working. Karen and Dale were more than accommodating – providing us with bait and poles already rigged for sound fishing almost as soon as we arrived. We spent a significant time on the pier fishing/sun bathing. We caught crab (on fishing line), skates (similar to stingrays), croaker and red drum. One morning, Dale took my husband, and another renter, out on his boat where they caught trout. There was a telescope in our room where we were able to watch a bald eagle in the distance. It even flew over us a couple times while we were on the pier. Neither of us had ever seen a bald eagle in the wilderness so we were excited to be able to use the telescope to see it so much closer. They have kayaks available to take out into the sound as well. We had a wonderful time and would definitely go back and stay longer.
My family spent a week in Engelhard. The lodge and atmosphere were both very relaxing. The lodge was beautiful and very well stocked. Everything needed to cook and store leftovers was provided. All linens were provided and enough soaps and paper products to get us started. Karen and Dell were very hospitable. They went out of their way, to make sure we had everything we needed to have a relaxing, enjoyable time!
