This property is owned by two brothers who have lived in the Engelhard area and Hyde County all their lives. They are from a third generation commercial fishing family. They presently own a fish house business which buys local seafood. They have owned this property for several years and decided to build this lodge to give others the opportunity to come and enjoy the same area they have enjoyed all their life.

The Owner purchased this lodge in 2012

This area offers such great outdoor activities. We have lived here all our lives and know this is truly paradise for us. The outdoor opportunities are endless.

This property just offers the best access to the Pamlico Sound in the Hyde County area and a great way to take life easy.

Great Family Time!!

We had three generations gather for a vacation and everyone had a great time. My 28 y/o stepson dubbed it the "best vacation he's ever had" and the location definitely had something to do with that. The kids loved the fishing; the adults loved that it was comfortable, peaceful and felt very safe for the kids (6 & 8) to be out playing. The owners were super nice and went out of their way to make us feel right at home.
The wifi connection was great. I think my Verizon Wireless iPhone was roaming. We ate in for most meals; the Mississippi Mud cake at the Red & White was quite yummy.
We made a few trips to the Outer Banks and although I regularly commute from Baltimore to DC, it did feel like a long drive sometimes. But nothing outrageous. Every time we saw the UPS truck heading to/from Outer Banks we pondered whether this was a good route to have or a bad one.
The only disappointment was that it was overcast and we missed getting great sunrise pictures like the ones shown in the ad. But that's certainly no one's fault. The mosquitos are quite serious, so don't forget spray.
The lodge is clean and well-appointed. It has everything you might need -- including a set of Rubbermaid containers for leftovers. Loved the heating lamp in the bathroom.

The cabin was clean, breezy, quiet and had a beautiful view. Englehard is a small fishing village and definitely off the beaten track. The owners could not have been more helpful; I felt like I had been a neighbor all my life. If you are looking to get away from the crowds and enjoy some really good sea food, I would highly recommend this property. We enjoyed watching the fishing boats come in and went down to the dock to see them unload the crabs for sorting. The screened in front porch is also ideal for reading and relaxing. Martelles restaurant was reasonable, especially the lunch buffet. We chartered a skiff to go out in the sound and did not catch anything, but, the fishing within a half mile of the lodge was tremendous.

The pictures really don't do justice to the gorgeous view of the Pamlico Sound. The sunrise is beautiful over the sound.
The cottage is VERY clean (I am a clean freak) and quite comfortable.
The owners are incredibly nice and helpful.

The Perfect Vacation!

I've been all over the NC & VA coastline (carolina beach, nags head, hatteras, myrtle beach, emerald isle, va beach, chincoteague) and this was absolutely, without a doubt, my favorite place to visit. The lodges are brand new and the design of them is really well thought out.
Pros:
- Fishing is amazing. I caught 3 red drum, 6 flounder, 1 trout, 1 spade fish, 2 sea mullet, a bunch of croakers, several stingrays, and 2 bullnose skates(20-30lb) and I hooked into several fish that were so big that they broke my line (I used gulp with tail along with either a popping cork or just a jig head/ shrimp / squid / cutbait)
- Big dock on property that has a picnic table with cutting board mounted to it and rod holders are already mounted around the dock for fishing
- Crabbing was awesome. I caught so many crab that I could barely keep up picking them. See the picture I posted which is only after 1 days catch. (I ended up with about 4lbs of crab meat)
- The property owners are super nice. They made sure we had everything we needed during our stay.
- Waking up to the views of the Pamlico sound every morning was breathtaking and while I was there, I saw wildlife that I had never seen before (such as a bald eagle and sea birds).
- Everything you need in town is really close to the lodges (dollar general has most everything)
- Martelles Feed House Restaurant has tasty fresh local seafood and bbq
- Everybody that I met in town was nicer than any place I've been on vacation (example> we stopped by Martelles on the way home and they were closed but the owner saw us pull into the parking lot and opened the restaurant for only me and my wife)
- Lodges > meticulously cleaned, all furniture and beds are really comfortable, HD TV with lots of HD channels, fast and reliable internet, heated fan in bathroom, curved shower curtain, high end washer and dryer (everything in lodges is high end and fancy)
- They already have 2 kayaks you can take out on the sound which I definitely recommend doing
- Small, quiet town that's perfect for getting away from busy day to day life
- Boat ramp is nice to have for launching boat or kayak
Cons:
None
