Humpback Whales are found throughout the world, and are famous for their long migrations, feeding in cold northern waters, yet giving birth, raising young, and mating in warm tropical waters. From Alaska, that means a trip of 2400 miles to Hawaii every fall (like many Alaskan residents!) One of whom is the owner of this lovely home. She is fortunate to work in two of the most beautiful parts of the world, studying whales - Southeast Alaska and the Hawaiian Islands. During her graduate work at the University of Hawaii, she got hooked on the beautiful Kohala Coast and met the close friends with whom she started the Hawai'i Marine Mammal Consortium. She and her husband make their home in a small town in Alaska for most of the year, and spend part of the winter whale season on the Big Island, enjoying the local foods, culture and ocean.
They have opened their doors to share their sanctuary with others seeking renewal and refreshment on the Big Island. Ideally located on the Kohala Coast, Hale Kohola has expansive views of the ocean and coastline. This 2 bedroom/ 2 bath plus office /TV room has enough room to sleep six, if you include the fold out futon sofa in the TV room. The layout allows privacy for both bedrooms which are separated by the living areas. The kitchen is well planned for cooking and storage and views of the ocean while you prepare meals.
Situated on 3 acres, it is a rare find for privacy, beauty, star gazing and Island Living. The landscaping includes a few fruit trees and fragrant flowers, but the focus is on species native to Hawaii which includes a few endangered species (koaia, ohai and hibiscus). Fully equipped; comfortable and clean, you will find Hale Kohola to be perfect for your dream vacation in Hawaii.

Ideal location for acreage, privacy, yet minutes to the ocean to launch our boat for whale watching. Great are restaurants nearby and a fish market. The most beautiful white sand beaches on the island are just 5-10 minutes away.
