I am a native of Florida and lived and grew up there in the country until I was 36 and moved to Rome, Georgia which was hilly, but not the mountains. I moved to my home now Parrottsville/Del Rio, TN in 2002 near the vacation home. I love the country and the mountains. I worked accounting for 31 years and since moving to Tennessee I have mostly worked carpentry, staining and painting. Thus, I purchased this house and have refurbished the lower level which encompasses the kitchen, dining room, living room and one bath. I have tried to make the level somewhat rustic and to have the feel of a cabin. I love the curvy roads to ride my motorcycle, the gravel roads and forest to ride a horse, and most of all I love the country lifestyle leaving the traffic and hustle and bustle of city life.
Loretta Carns purchased this house in 2013
I love this area and the people. I love the convenience to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Johnson City, Hot Springs, NC and Asheville, NC. There are 4 seasons here. There are views that have differences between daytime and nighttime views which also change with the seasons. I hope you will love the mountains too. Fall is my favorite time, with the country festivals and color change on the leaves. The smell of the mountain changes with the falling leaves.
For people who live a hectic lifestyle this is THE getaway from it all. The house is nestled in the woods with few neighbors. You might enjoy a wooded morning or evening walk, or just to sit on the deck and enjoy the scenery, or by the campfire. Bring your motorcycle and enjoy the country roads and scenery through the mountains. Bring your horses and ride the trails in and around the national forest. This house is away from it all. Most of all there is quiet for reflection, enjoyment and peace for the soul.
A beautiful place in the hills of East Tennessee with modern amenities and not too far from tourist places such as Gatlinburg, Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, and the Smoky Mountain National Park to name a few. The home was well maintained, a little remote (but that was a lot of fun) and had beautiful scenery surrounding it. Loretta and Maury were wonderful hosts and they had a Christmas tree ready for our arrival which certainly thrilled the grandchildren. Highly recommended as a great alternative to the pricey Gatlinburg area rentals.
Our stay at Lighten Road Hideaway was a great experience! We loved the layout of the spacious rooms in the house. The cleanliness was exceptional. The variation and quantity of kitchen accessories was phenomenal. We loved the convienence of the double garage, making unloading and loading in inclement weather perfect. The owners went above and beyond to accommodate us. The decorations and Christmas tree they provided made the seasonal perfect backdrop for our family pictures. We recommend any and all to stay here and feel as comfortable as being in your own home.
We were in the area for our son's wedding and the house was absolutely perfect for our needs. We had large crowds over a 3 day period and there was always plenty of space and parking. The fire pit was the normal gathering spot (thanks Maury for having it ready to go when we got there). We maxed out the sleeping number of 15 and actually had a couple of extra the last night, there was plenty of bed space and everyone was comfortable.
The house was very clean and laid out well for large parties and very comfortable, including for our dog, he had a great time there as well. We would certainly stay again and highly recommend this home to anyone needing space, privacy or just a quiet mountain getaway. Thanks Maury and Loretta, you were very helpful and accommodating and made our weekend much better.
The house was excellent and roomy. It is a hidden retreat far from the traffic and turmoil of the surrounding towns. Mrs Carns greeted us after our arrival. The time we spent at the cabin was enjoyable.
Loved this home and location. Very remote and provided lots of privacy. The bedrooms were very spacious and comfortable. Bathrooms were adequate for our group and the laundry was a plus. We didn't get to enjoy the fire pit because of rain but loved how it was set up. The kitchen was awesome with plenty of seating for everyone and my granddaughters loved the play area. Couldn't have picked a better place and had a wonderful time. If you are looking for excitement (city style), you will not find it here. If you want a relaxing time, that you will find.
Winter months might need 4 x 4 when there is snow. Beautiful when there is snow, and in warm weather by motorcycle, horseback, or walking is beautiful. Adjacent to Cherokee National Forest. Within an hour drive from: Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Asheville, Hot Springs, Johnson City and reasonably close to Bristol Motor Speedway.
