Master bedroom with king bed and desk with uninterruptible power supply and direct cable internet connection and WiFi. Second upstairs room with flat screen HDTV with DVD player, desk with ups, WiFi internet, and a queen size A-frame futon. We just added a twin size air bed (with padded mattress cover) for more flexible sleeping arrangements. Full bath. It is often said that one should not take their work with them on vacation. But we know that is more easily said then done for some of us. This home has been prepared with that possibility and need in mind.
Downstairs living room with a second flat screen HDTV and a queen sleeper sofa. Half bath with washer and dryer. Each room with a closet prepared for your comfort and convenience. WiFi throughout.
Fully equipped and appointed kitchen with ample seating for six at the table and 2 at the counter. Pantry essentials stocked and ample supplies to get you started with coffee any way you like it. Please arrange ahead if you would like to provide us with a short list of groceries including condiments and accompaniments you would like to have waiting for you in the fridge and cupboards.
Please let us know ahead of time if you would like the pull out beds to be made in advance of your arrival. We use mattress cases and pillow-top covers for your comfort in addition to freshly laundered linens.
We are a happy family of five including our dog, Mojo. We love to travel when we can find the time. Our preference for years has been to use short term rental properties when we do. Seeing from the eyes of locals always trumps a whirlwind 'tour'. When traveling, we like making time for each of our wishes whether a morning hot cocoa and cappuccino, an art museum, local sites, fashion shopping, unusual local cuisines and antiquing. Frederick satisfies all these desires and now we can try our hand at being host :)

You will soon see why we chose this property. Your home in Frederick is a fully updated antebellum townhouse. Modern conveniences of a full dine-in kitchen and 1.5 bath rooms with laundry - all recently refurbished. Rare off street parking space (during inclement Winter weather conditions you may need to consider alternative City of Frederick parking due to our long, sloped driveway.) Not just convenient to downtown, you are downtown. Your home is around the corner from a site George Washington stayed when traveling to Fort Frederick for Pre-Revolutionary assignments (now an architectural remnant.) It is down the road from the historic Hessian Barracks where mercenaries taken prisoner during the Revolution were quartered and where the Lewis and Clark expedition was launched. It is across the street from where Lincoln's train stopped on the way to Gettysburg after that infamous battle. Speaking of which, Frederick is a central starting point to some of the nations' revolutionary, civil war and other historical and national points of interest in the region.
Half a block to the 'Carroll Creek Linear Park', you transition from historic downtown to a scenic morning jog to beautiful 44 acre Baker Park in less than a minute. Fine dining ranges from the casual (Black Hog BBQ, Nola Cafe), to ethnic (Sabor de Cuba, Sumittra Thai, Ayse Mezze Lounge, many more), to formal (Tasting Room, Volt, Il Porto). The Marc Train is a two block walk and opens up convenient access to the Washington DC Metro system - imagine, no car needed to access museums, shopping, dining and entertainment in the nations capital! Shopping and services in Frederick are ample with small business owners giving their heart and soul.
Just a short, half block stroll from your fully updated antebellum accommodation is Frederick's scenic Carroll Creek park. Choose from an array of cuisine including a Voltaggio establishment (one of three in Frederick) in this beautiful downtown oasis. Perhaps take out an impromptu picnic from one of the restaurants. Then stroll west along the landscaped creek past the Barbara Fritchie house to famous, 44 acre Baker Park (great for jogging, biking, light fishing, bird watching, picnics, cookouts, playgrounds, seasonal entertainment.) or continue north on Market Street to explore the nostalgic shops - a bastion of family owned businesses and 'Bedford Falls' values. Whether you are into American and ethnic cuisine, antiques and collectibles, trendy bars and coffee shops, specialty candy and gift shops, historic destinations, or shopping and library, everyone finds their way. There being so much to mention, we will have some of our personal recommendations waiting upon your arrival.
The region extends many of Frederick city's strong points. Beginning with a tour of the 'National Museum of Civil War Medicine' on east Patrick street, one can then go on the road to one or more regional battlefields including Gettysburg, Antietam, Monocacy, South Mountain, Balls Bluff and more points of interest. From South Mountain, visit the 'Civil War Correspondent Memorial Arch' in Gathland park before continuing on to the first Washington monument erected in 1827 along the Appalachian Trail by the residents of Boonsboro. Other museums in downtown Frederick include historic 'Rose Hill Manor Park and Children's Museum', 'Schifferstadt Architectural Museum', the historic Chief Justice Roger Brooke Taney house and (highly recommended) the 'Historical Society of Frederick County'. 'Roads and Rails Museum' is a relatively recent introduction to Frederick.
If you are one to canvas the antique shops wherever you go, you will not be disappointed in Frederick. After visiting local haunts (which we find quite fruitful) including Old Glory, Emporium Antiques, Cannon Hill, and Heritage Antiques, you can then continue your trek to the east (New Market, Ellicott City and perhaps Baltimore), the north (Gettysburg and New Oxford), the west (Beaver Creek and Funkstown, near Antietam), or the south (Leesburg, and the greater Washington DC region.) Being avid antiquers ourselves, we keep literature and recommendations at your home in Frederick.
Seasonally, Frederick has active farmers markets. We will leave you with a seasonal and weekly schedule with our other local recommendations. The Everedy Square & Shab Row farmer's market off east street every Thursday from June through October is a favorite. Get fresh artisan bread and the best pastries in town, just down the street from the market, at Stone Hearth Bakery before selecting produce (take a sturdy bag or backpack with you.) Our favorites are the varieties of peppers, silver queen corn, yellow peaches, berries and cantaloupes. I like to pick up an eggplant on occasion as well. Treat yourself to an ice cream, before or after shopping, from Frederick Fudge & Ice Cream (adjacent to the market.) Walking back along church street, stop by Juliet's Italian Market to pick up a cold or warm salad and some imported cold cuts, fresh mozzarella (to go with the artisan bread from stone hearth) and perhaps a prepared gourmet dish ready to heat. Then take it back to your well equipped and appointed dine-in kitchen carefully stocked with basic necessities and ample seating for eight (arrange with us ahead if you would like us to have your favorite condiments and accompaniments waiting for you in the refrigerator and cupboards.) one thing you will always find ready in your kitchen is everything to get you started to make coffee your way.
For a good quality, quick bite any time, Black Hog BBQ is a hop and a skip away - no jump necessary, giving you a head start on the loyal pilgrims from Pennsylvania, Virginia and west Virginia making the trek for their delicacies.
