Steve and Joy Powell believe children are the future and nothing is more important then giving children a solid foundation for life. They strongly feel great memories should be shared. Memory Mountain is full of personal memories experienced by their family over the past 2 decades and continue presently. It is their vision to give others a mystical place to make memories with those they care about. Memory Mountain has the potential to grow great character in your children and grandchildren.

Both Joy and Steve are from large families. Steve is 1 of 7 brothers, his Dad kept trying for a daughter until his mom put a stop to it. Joy has 5 brothers and sisters and is a native to North Carolina (4th generation).

Steve powell purchased this lodge in 2010

It's easy to get here. There are not miles of windy 2 lane country roads . I-26 intersects with I-95 so if gas tanks allowed - you could get here traffic light free. There are 2 airports Asheville, NC 35 miles or Tri-Cities, TN 50 miles. Both cities have great rates flying Allegiant Air.

Memory Mountain features over 200 acres to enjoy. You will not have to leave the mountain to fish, hike, bird watch, soak in a private hot tub, visit a chapel.

Extras: wi-fi, Directv (over 570 channels - local, movies, sports, Disney), free long distance land lines (cell phones are iffy here therefore land lines are included to ensure safety. Please enjoy unlimited calls out or in. Steve and Joy Powell (owners) live on Memory Mountain to assist all guest with any issue that may occur.

Level building pads here. This lodge is built on stem wall footers. There are no steep drops or stilts like most mountain cabins. The lodges are well planned to allow privacy and safety. There is plenty of driveway parking. Traffic is light because of the low home/acreage ratio.

Holidays! You can have it all away from home. Gifts can be mailed to the Powell address or store pick up is available at 2 very close Walmart's (Weaverville, NC or Erwin, TN). There are Christmas tree farms in Mars Hill to cut your own tree. Dishes to prepare and enjoy holiday meals are included as well as a large full size kitchen.

Weddings. We have a chapel and beautiful mountain back drops 24/7.

Please ask any question... we will find an answer.

Mountains weather - cold summer nights it was 53 degrees last night (August). Spring brings new growth, wild and farm animals and wild flowers. Autumn shows off the wild colorful leaves changing the views in every direction. Winter brings the snow making skiing, tubing, sledding and snowman making possible.

The cabins feature many unique charms such as wormy chestnut logs and wood, arrowheads found on the grounds, nooks for children to explore, private outdoor fire pits and plenty of gathering space indoors and out. A great deal of time has been spent collecting local reclaimed wood to build Memory Mountains' cabins and it shows.

Incredible Weekend at Memory Mountain!

I brought a group of 18 for a relaxing weekend in the mountains and it was amazing! Steve couldn't have been a better host. My friends and I drove up a couple months before just to check the place out and Steve made room in his schedule just to show us the property while we rode around in his truck. He explained everything concisely and made sure we were prepared for our weekend retreat. He even took us into his home to meet his wife and to learn more about themselves! While on the trip he made sure everything was taken care of and that we were well situated. The house was just beautiful, and the property was perfect for what we wanted. There were ponds for us to fish in, trails to hike, and wonderful mountain views. Even with 18 people there was plenty of room for us all. You might think that with that many people it would be cramped and that cooking would be difficult, but there was plenty of space and more than enough room to cook for all of us. The hot tub was also a popular spot outside. At first we couldn't figure out how to work it, but I shot Steve a quick text and he explained it very easily. Overall our stay couldn't have been any better. I look forward to more trips up to Memory Mountain and absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice mountain retreat! Thanks for being so great Steve!

This cabin is amazing!!!! We loved going there! The owners are so welcoming and great to talk to. It is nice to hear about how Memory Mountain came along. We are definitely going back during the summer. We loved the views of the waterfalls and the ponds and being surrounded by woods. There were great walking paths to go exploring. I wish we could have stayed longer. One weekend defintely wasn't long enough.

Amazing Christmas!

We stayed during the Christmas week for 9 days with family and it was absolutely terrific. Our hosts were amazing and took care of every detail we needed. The house was warm and inviting and had a great layout for the 8 of us that stayed there. The kids had their own adjoining rooms and we stayed in the master suite upstairs with them and the rest of the family enjoyed the gas fireplace and privacy downstairs. We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay for a great Christmas with the whole family together for the first time in a while. Thank you so much!!

Weekend with Friends

What an absolutely wonderful weekend we had on Memory Mountain. I don’t know where to start. The house itself is gorgeous with all the amenities you could ever need for a relaxing trip. Board games, puzzles, fire place, Movie channels, hot tub, water views. It just has everything. We spent most of the weekend in the house relaxing and hiking the property. There are trails located right outside your door. We brought our dogs with us and they had a blast, from running the trails to barking at the beautiful ducks on the water. It was surreal. Coming from Atlanta it was great to get away from the city and relax in the wilderness. Being city people we needed a little help getting our fire started in the fire pit one night and Steve the owner came on down and helped us out. It was amazing. Anything we needed he was at our door. He and his wife Joy are just amazing people and I feel blessed that I got the opportunity to meet them and to know I will always have friends in Wolf Laurel.
Outside of the house, we took a trip out to Ashville for the day. It’s about a 30 minute drive and it just has an awesome atmosphere. The grocery store and other businesses are about a 15- 20 minute drive away. So be prepared. Its best to hit the grocery store before you get to the house, once you are there it’s hard to motivate yourself to leave. The remote mountain made a great to enjoy board games and puzzles. It great place to relax and leave the city life behind for a few days!

Owner's Response: People tell me it hard to believe the write ups we get from people. Well they are written from people who stay her and VRBO is great about protecting the people who stay. They publish everything so I better give good service. You know what if you believe in something like I believe in Memory Mountain and it's Christian atmosphere it's easy. I want people to come here and have great memories. Maybe that's why I have 37% repeat business the first year.

Family Snow Vacation

This house is perfect for large families or multi families. We were 5 separate families- 11 adults and 7 children and we each had our own space. The closets were big and the bathrooms were roomy. The master bedroom had 2 full beds so 4 people slept in that room. Plenty of dining area and chairs. The kitchen was plenty big for our bunch and had the supplies we needed. The large walk-in pantry was great. We could of used a large electric skillet and I am sure if we had asked Steve, he would have brought us one. Steve is very personable and helpful. If we asked, he provided. The location of the house was perfect with so many little ones. The driveway was a blast with the snow sleds- kept the kids busy. I would rent this house again and recommend to families who want to enjoy each others company but not get in each others way!

Owner's Response: We went to Walmart and bought 3 more Electric Skillets for the last 3 cabins. It's amazing how many people like yourself have helped us improve Memory Mountain. There are so many companies that don't listen to their customers. Well me and my wife come from old school and without you guys, without customers we would not be in business. We also want to thank VRBO for the great job they do. The rules they have in place many times protects the renter more than the Owner and we like that. In my long banking career we taught our employees to alway do the right thing.
