I stumbled onto Eureka Springs in 1971, and just as you probably will, I fell in Love. My former wife and I started out with a juice bar, then a restaurant, then a shop. I currently sell real estate, design and build custom homes, have a custom deck company, and market a couple of self invented products. But all that is just a sideline. Eureka Springs is not about money, it's about lifestyle. What I really do, is enjoy life. My social life and businesses, my church, these magical Ozark hills, hiking and exploring, boating, fishing, and swimming off my dock. I love meeting people, and look forward to meeting you. However I will not intrude upon your privacy, you can have my company at your will.

Jack Cross purchased this house in 2005

I live in paradise. I lived in town for 14 years and enjoyed it, but living on the lake is unbeatable. Fortunately it's only a few minutes from town and all on paved roads. There is something about living with the woods all around you and a huge body of water in site. The quiet, the peacefulness, and the feeling of being in control of your life is exemplary. You are invited to see what I mean.

I chose my house because it is on the end of a ridge road with a great view of the lake. I spend a great deal of time on the decks I added, and even grow vegetables on them in the summer. My nearest neighbors homes are both vacation homes, so I rarely see them. But when I do, they are always so happy to be back to paradise.

TOTALLY AMAZING PLACE TO STAY.

  • 5 of 5
My boyfriend and I went here for our 2nd anniversary. It was perfect. The home is beautifully decorated with art from local artist from Eureka Springs and other pieces from the owners worldly travels. It was immaculate and the view from the deck with the hot tub was breathtaking. The stars at night and Beaver Lake in the sunrise and sunset from the bistro chairs and tables on the beautiful large deck was always a welcome calming sight. We had a sliding glass door to our portion of the deck which allowed for opening the windows and drinking coffee in bed and watching the boats on the lake. So serene. We went to town and got steaks for 3 nights because it has a grill, which was wonderful. It has a kitchen with a microwave so we just threw in some steamable veggies and had a fab dinner on the deck under the stars. I can't say enough of how this was a home away from home and even better place to stay. The owner Jack is awesome and he took us on a tour of the historic city which we would never have seen on our own. He has lived there many many years and knows the hot spots and history behind this fun amazing town. We definitely recommend getting Jack to take you on the "tour" for a nominal fee. It's something you will never forget. Since we had never been to Arkansas we asked him what to do and see and he was a so helpful with restaurants and must see things to do. I did notice there are literally hundreds of places to stay in the area, but none were as inviting or as beautiful as we were so lucky to have picked. I'm taking my 14 yr. old there this summer and can't wait to fish Beaver Lake and see our fun Host again. We highly recommend this getaway.

BEAUTIFUL!!

  • 5 of 5
We came to Eureka Springs with another couple to get away from it all back home. Jacks place was beyond what we had expected! We felt that the cabin was plenty big enough to get some privacy from the other couple (as did they). We were able to make the kitchenette work, along with the charcoal grill, to cook dinner for 4 each night. I have read some complaints saying Jack has a propane grill for personal use, while we have the charcoal grill, no stove, etc. Well, if you saw how well kept this place was, you would understand why Jack doesnt want to risk having these extra options at his little place.
Jack is quite the firecracker! If you havent a sense of humor you might consider staying somewhere else. Jack was never a burden to us, we invited him to eat dinner with us one night, to which he politley declined due to other plans. The wildlife we watched off of the deck at all times of the day/night was wonderful!
Jack was a great host in all aspects! We informed Jack before we arrived that we were looking to get away from the kids and responsibilities back home. Jacks response to us when we arrived was "My number one rule, Is have too much fun!". Thats exactly what we did!
Jack, thank you so much for being a great host, and sharing your little piece of heaven with us!! Your little place is very much recommended from us!!

EVERYTHING AND THEN SOME!

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I were looking for a nice, clean, quiet place to catch some time to relax and rejuvenate. This place is the epitome of relaxation! Jack is the warmest and most gracious host that you can ask for. The rooms, bathroom and hot tub are spotless. The scenery and breathtaking view is only leaving us with a thirst for more. We went downtown for some shopping and spent an afternoon hiking Leather wood Lake park. We had intended to bike the trails but it is not safe to bike. The walk is beautiful. We also did canoeing on the White River. It is crystal clear but way too cold for a swim. Would definitely recommend Jack's Place for a fun, quiet, relaxing and enjoyable trip.

DISAPPOINTED

  • 1 of 5
This property/unit is misrepresented and mischaracterized, beginning with the listing photograph featuring the owner’s portion of the deck. Photos of the split-level deck lead one to presume the entire outdoor area is theirs for enjoyment. The upper deck area with table/umbrella belongs to the owner, Jack.
The listing title uses “quiet” and “private” as descriptors; we believe so unfairly. The very write-up assures, “total privacy.” However, the owner’s back window provides a direct sightline to the visitor’s deck area below. And with his windows open as they were, we had no choice but to be guarded with the level of our voices. We were most unsettled by this. While inside, we could hear the owner and his dog walking about, along with a phone conversation and coughing. Jack told us he would retreat to another one of his properties during our stay. He did not. As a result, we were left without solitude and seclusion. The experience left us feeling like we had stayed with our, “Uncle Jack”. We were focused on being courteous. It was particularly difficult to enjoy some wine and good conversation.
The “kitchenette” is deceptively small (6’X6’), making semi-formal meal preparation and dining a compromised undertaking. A larger glass dining table has been placed (rather unusually) in one of the two bedrooms. It is covered with Jack’s promotional and recommended reading material. It provided us no functional use. The owner enjoys two gas grills on the upper balcony, while leaving his guests a charcoal unit below.
As described, we did not feel the suite provided an “exceptional view” of the lake. Unlike the leafless winter photos provided, there is only a sliver of space in the dense foliage to look out onto the lake. Added to which, the lake is a long way off, with no ease in getting to it from the house.
Another discouraging part of our stay came as Jack introduced the property. He told us (rather casually), not to fret the sound of gun fire, as he needed to pick off squirrels invading his bird feeder. Where we come from, people use more civilized methods for dealing with tree-dwelling rodents.
It was a clean place; nicely decorated with comfortable beds. The hot tub was relaxing and well maintained. That’s as far as we can go in providing praise.
We paid for two nights but could only will ourselves through one. The awkwardness and sheer disappointment was too much to overcome.

Owner's Response: Yikes! I couldn't believe my eyes when I read this review. It makes me wonder where she stayed, because it couldn't have been my suite. It really makes me sad to feel the negative energy that was written, so I won't go there with a rebuttal. But I will say thank you to all the other review writers who posted a review on my site, you might want to check them out and see what you think. I keep the suite very clean and neat, and my guests privacy is my first concern. Most of my guests enjoy a bit of conversation with a host that has lived in these Ozark mountains for 40 years, and I often recommend restaurants and places to go and see. But if privacy, peace and quiet is what you desire, I am here to provide it. I look forward to your visit, you are going to love it. Jack

Eureka Springs is a magical hidden jewel located in the Ozark mountains, the oldest mountain range in America. It is not unusual to see a bald eagle, or a wild turkey, a red fox, or deer prancing around everywhere. Your host (Jack) can direct you to some great hiking.

Our latest Eureka Springs feature is the new 'zip line' just opened March first. Turpentine Creek Animal Park features lions, tigers, and bears.....'Oh My!' There is Pivot Rock, Lake Lucerne (where Al Capone had a hideout), the steam engine train with dinner car, the Great Passion Play, Lake Leatherwood, and countless others. The only thing we don't have right now, is you. But you can change that. Your host, Jack Cross, has been in the area for more than 40 years, and is a wealth of helpful information. His guest suite is just around the corner from Starkey Marina where you can rent boats, buy pizza and beer, or BBQ at the free pavilion. Jack knows where to fish for bass, catfish, crappie, or trout, all right around the corner. If you desire a personal tour of the area and Eureka Springs, with historical information from a great story teller, at a nominal charge, just ask Jack.
