About Chaney Padaca
In 2007 Volcom purchased the three-story house. Built by Pipe Legend Gerry Lopez and two partners during the height of Lightning Bolt's heyday in the late 1970s, the house is one of the most iconic in surfing. Over the years it's also been the residence of influential surfers like Herbie Fletcher.
'The new house will probably be a bit more mellow than the one next door,' says Volcom's surf brand manager Brad Dougherty. 'It is immaculate and we intend to keep it that way. It is the home for the top guys, so we want them to enjoy what they have. All in all, the parties have been pretty mellow lately. Kaiborg has the boys training and there's nothing like running in the sand hung-over. We still have good BBQ's and always keep the place fun. Of course, if someone wins a contest or there is a good reason to have a party, the original house will be the place to be.'
The house has been residence to surfers like Bruce Irons and other A-list Volcom team.
