Alternate Latitude is an award-winning 44 foot Voyage Catamaran and Captain Steve has been sailing for over 20 years. He has carefully outfitted Alternate Latitude with a fresh & comfortable exterior & interior, with all new navigational equipment & other electronics, cushions & linens, stereo (MP3’s – yes!) and electric heads (toilets) in all bathrooms. You will experience the security of a qualified Captain, local knowledge and flair on a comfortable & recently updated beautiful sailing vessel.
Alternate Latitude offers 3 queen staterooms, each with own bathroom. The boat comes outfitted with toys aplenty, with 2 stand-up paddle boards, snorkel equipment for the whole gang, floaties & even a tube to pull behind the 5-passenger, 40 horse-power Zodiac dingy. Travel to multiple Caribbean islands via your own personal charter & visit coves & islands that you couldn’t easily get to if you stayed in a hotel without paying for all the extra travel costs (ferries, taxis, etc.).
Wake up to a breakfast of fresh local fruit & home-made treats from Chef Deb, then either jump in the sea for a refreshing swim/snorkel or take a hike on the trails that lead you to historical spots complete with amazing views. A light & healthy lunch will await you back on the boat – after that is a perfect time for an afternoon nap in the shade or chasing turtles on one of the stand-up paddle boards. Wind up the day with a little happy hour before a sumptuous dinner under the stars or opt for the delicious local West Indian fare at places such as Foxy’s or The Bitter End.
Alternate Latitude offers 3 kinds of charters – Captain only, half-board or all-inclusive:

Steve, Thanks so much for the Great trip. We all enjoyed it but James had a blast getting to sail with you. I can't think of anything I can recommend to make what you do any better. Having chartered with 4 other Cats in the past, I really think your talents as a sailor and Captain combined with the fact that Alternate Latitude is certainly a beautiful, comfortable and capable cruiser with a wonderful back story, will make a terrific charter for anyone either a novice or seasoned cruiser.
The destinations and routes were well thought out to accommodate my wife's desire for smooth sailing and anchorages and my Sons desire to sail. When Deb comes in to round our your crew, I'm sure things will get even better!
Thanks again for the fun and memorable vacation. We look forward to sailing with you again next Spring, as we discussed.
Steve holds a 100 ton USCG Masters License. He has 20 years sailing experience, he spent 14 years racing in and around Galveston bay, mostly on J24s but also on J22s, J105s and J109s. He has crossed the gulf of Mexico seven times and in 2011 alone put just over 10,000 sea miles under his keel while sailing solo from Texas to the Virgin Islands as well as completing a few deliveries. Prior to buying Alternate Latitude he owned a variety of boats including everything from a Sunfish to a Tayana 37.
He has owned several successful small businesses, he spent 12 years as a financial planner, then in 2003, he and one of his best friends started a medical equipment business. Seven years later he took off on an open ended cruise, however, missing his better half Deb, he decided it was time to figure out a way to get her to join him. The charter plan was hatched. He will provide Captain only charters until she can make it down here.
Steve loves the outdoors and is looking forward to sharing his love of sailing and the water with you.
When available Deb will be joining us to help make your vacation extra special.
Deb was born & raised in Brownsville TX, and grew up on the beach with a strong love for water. At 25, she bought a one-way ticket to the USVI and found her calling in all things natural, especially food. After discovering eco-culture & a healthy, fresh diet at Maho Bay Camps, Deb worked for 15 years first with Whole Foods Market and then with the top natural products and brands in the world. She kept sneaking back to the Caribbean on vacations to sail (her other love) and crossed paths with Steve. A dream was born to encompass the love for all things natural while creating tropical adventures on the water. Deb brings 20 years of natural foods experience to the table, with a fresh & gourmet spin on a fun, festive vacation menu that you can feel good about. Organic produce, local baked goods & fresh, local fish when available.
We love sailing in the US and British Virgin islands, the Islands are close together and well protected. Having the ability to move easily from one island to the next via Alternate Latitude will enhance your vacation(no ferries, packing and unpacking).
From the boat you can do it all, whether you want to snorkel, hike, explore or just sit back and relax.
Alternate Latitude sails everyday for a few hours, it doesn't take long to get to the next island. Each island offers a new adventure, whether you are looking for quiet family anchorages or the party spot, the Virgin Islands have what you are looking for and we would love to show it to you.
