Abiquiu House Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, 4 Sleeps, Modern Adobe

'It was all so far away--there was quiet and an untouched feel to the country and I could work as I pleased.' Georgia O'Keeffe

Serenity abounds at Casa Bonita, where it is easy to see why this country had such a profound impact on Georgia O'Keeffe. Light and open, this modern adobe rests on ten acres overlooking Abiquiu Lake towards Ghost Ranch, with gorgeous views in all directions. Picture windows throughout the living area allow you to appreciate the vistas from the comfort of the well-appointed interior. The covered portales (covered porches) are ideal for enjoying the tranquility of the environment. Admire the view of the Pedernal from the portale off of the master suite, or take in the iconic landscape of Ghost Ranch while you grill on the portale off of the kitchen.

Spend your days hiking, visiting area galleries, or reconnecting with your own creative side. And after enjoying the unique sunset at the end of the day, savor the starlight of the unadulterated night sky.

'My first memory is of light--the brightness of light--light all around.' Georgia O'Keeffe

Fun time in Abiquiu

  • 4 of 5
My husband and I really enjoyed staying at Casa Bonita. It was a beautiful setting. The house was everything we needed, very nice. We really liked the big open windows and the radiant floors. It was a great place for peace and quiet. The bed was very comfortable, made for good sleeping. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because of the gravel road (off of the main highway). It was really rough, we know it is very dry there and hard to keep it grated, but it was not the greatest road to travel.

Beautiful, peaceful, remote.

  • 5 of 5
We cannot thank you enough for opening your home in Abiquiu to us. We really did not want to leave. We took many long (and some quite challenging) hikes--two at Ghost Ranch, one at Chaco Canyon, and one on the Continental Divide trail, north of Chama in Colorado. Every hike was different, and each one was incredibly beautiful. We hiked down from the house to the lake a few times, too, and found the best way to do that was down the arroyo to the right of the house as you're facing the lake. I know you say it's a half mile to the lake but will feel longer; I have to say I think it feels longer because it IS longer. :-) We also spent a day in Santa Fe, and saw the O'Keefe Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts. Finally, on our way to the airport on our last day we stopped at the Puye Cliff Dwellings, which are really amazing.

But no matter how beautiful it was where we hiked, we found coming back to the house to be the most beautiful place of all. We loved every single thing about it--the view of the lake, the view of Pedernal, the way the house was designed and built (that hard, smooth plaster is amazing), and even the way it was sited--just off the crest of the hill, rather than sitting right on top of it as other houses in the area do.

I would say to anyone considering this house that if you love the idea of a gorgeous, peaceful, remote getaway with unimaginable views (even at night--don't forget to look up at the sky, because you won't see stars like that anywhere near a city), you can't go wrong here. I would also say that, if you're renting a car, you might want to go for a jeep or an SUV, because it's a (gorgeous) 20 minute drive on gravel roads once you get off the highway. We didn't have one and we did just fine, but we'd probably get one next time around.

Again, we are so grateful to you for sharing your home with us.

Fabulous Getaway

  • 5 of 5
WOW! What an amazing place to stay. 360 degree beautiful views, fabulous sunsets and sunrises, and you can smell the quietness - just wish I could bottle the quietness for when I'm stressed in the big City! Great to look at the Zillion stars at night. Wonderful place to stay and relax yet you can take day trips to Santa Fe, Taos and Durango. My greatest pleasure was sitting outside in the morning with coffee and reading while enjoying the sunrise and surrounded by silence. This was a fantastic vacation for me and my Scotty dog, Sabrina. Thank you.

Great Place to Enjoy Serene Lake View & Nearby Sites

Great Place to Enjoy Serene Lake View & Nearby Sites
  • 5 of 5
Our short visit (2 days) was perfect for the relaxing trip we had planned from Albuquerque (should have made it 3 days). This would be a great place for 2 couples if you wouldn't mind sharing the single bathroom. Actually stopped at Bodes for directions to Plaza Blanca on the way up (requires a short hike). Very detailed instruction packet gives driving directions (better than Google) & how to use appliances. Lake view from the living room was world class ! Very comfortable accommodations with very well equipped, beautiful home. We spent a lot of time doing nothing but taking in the view and reading about O'Keeffe country. It is a bit of a hike to walk from the house to the lake, so we drove down and found it easy to park on a low overlook and walk down to the water. Next day we drove to nearby Ghost Ranch and walked one of the trails. Later stopped at the Echo Amphitheater up the road a short distance - wonderful ! The shooting stars & Milky Way right off the front porch were simply amazing. Overall, a perfect short getaway. Will be back with friends.

Stunning house and location

  • 5 of 5
The house in Abiquiu was a fabulous place for 2 couples spending the last 2 nights in a week-long tour around Northern NM. The views are extraordinary and the house itself is simple, yet built and furnished with beautiful quality and taste. Kitchen equipment and supplies are new and complete. Detailed directions to find the house were appreciated. We enjoyed the funkiness of Bode's, the good food and service at Abiquiu Inn, and the hiking trail around the lake. Next time we have overseas houseguests, we'll ask to come back.
