Sunny Farm is an historic 1790 period home on 3 levels which was done over by a well-known historic designer. It is filled with carefully chosen period antiques and has original wood beams and wide board wood floors. The home was featured on the cover of Connecticut Cottages and Gardens in March, 2012. It has a private location with no road noise and faces the Killingworth Commons , a private 3 acre commons for 6 historic homes which were moved to the site 30 years ago. The house has a huge, beamed kitchen with a La Cornue gas stove, state of the art appliances and concrete island and surfaces. The huge master king bedroom was constructed from an old barn and is separate from the rest of the house, connected by a passageway. It has a double height beamed ceiling and an enormous bathroom with a huge glassed shower and free-standing tub.
The 3300 sq ft. home has 3 working historic fireplaces,a charming keeping room with library, formal dining room and a period panelled living room overlooking the green with a 40' flat-screen TV with access to Amazon, Nextflix, etc. Downstairs is a queen bedroom with its own full bathroom and separate entrance. Upstairs are 2 queen bedrooms and a small bedroom with 2 single beds, perfect for kids. There is sporting equipment, games, and some toys for children.
There is a full bath upstairs and an additional 1/2 bath on the main floor. The house is centrally air conditioned and has Wi-Fi.
Outside there is a covered pergola with dining area set in an enclosed garden area.
There is a professional gas grill and a small fountain facing the dining area. Adjacent to the pergola is
a garden with outdoor furniture overlooking a new heated Gunnite pool and spa. The pool has an automatic electric cover for safety. The 2 acre grass commons is safe and perfect for kids and dogs running around.
The house is centrally located between the shoreline towns of Madison, Clinton and Old Saybrook and the CT. river towns of Essex and Chester. The CT. River Museum, an historic steam train, sailing and river tours are available in Essex. The best French restaurant in CT is 10 minutes away, as is the largest
LI Sound beach in CT, 3 live theaters, and numerous opportunities for kayaking, sailing, river tours and boating. A small shopping center with gourmet take-out food, a bakery, pharmacy, bank with ATM and diner is 1 mile away. Nearby are horseback riding, hiking in several state parks, and trout fishing.
An art cinema and a 12 plex cinema are nearby.
New Haven is 25 minutes away, with several theaters, Yale University and the new Yale Art Museum. Mystic CT is a 30 minute drive. Cooking classes, farm visits, and sailboat charters can be arranged. You can visit Block Island on a 10 minute air charter, take a swim and return the same day. An Amtrak/MTA station is 10 minutes away; it is 2 hours by train to Boston or NY.
The owners are busy NY professionals who use the house on weekends and for part of the Summer. We travel extensively and rent the house when we are busy or away.

We are interested in historic preservation and authenticity, and our home was renovated by a well-known architectural designer in a thoughtful manner with exacting attention to detail and European (French) touches.

Killingworth is a charming New England rural area filled with historic homes surrounded by stone walls. It is conveniently located 10 minutes from the CT. shoreline beaches and marinas, 10 minutes from major outlet shopping, 15 minutes from the historic river town of Essex and its marinas, steam train and shops, and 15 minutes from the arty, galleried-filled village of Chester.
The best French restaurant in CT is 10 minutes away,
and there are a number of other top restaurants in the area. In addition to swimming in our new heated pool and spa, the largest beach in CT is 10 minutes away.
Hiking and nature trails abound, with excellent sailing, kayaking, trout fishing, horseback riding and lake swimming all nearby.
There are 3 live theater venues nearby in addition to
the theaters in New Haven and the new Yale Art Gallery.
The house is in a unique, tranquil setting off the road on an historic 3 acre green facing other period homes.
It is 25 minutes to New Haven, 30 minutes to Mystic, and 2 hours by car or train to NY or Boston.
