679 Meech Lake Road is an outstanding vacation property, overlooking Meech Lake, and located just outside of the quaint village of Chelsea, Quebec.

The house, with its pine detailing, timber beam construction and spectacular views, is an ideal setting from which to enjoy not only the lake, but the beauty and splendor of Gatineau Park as well. For the outdoor enthusiast, the house is situated close to cross-country ski trails (ski–in/ski-out), downhill skiing (Camp Fortune is less than a kilometer away), cycling trails, and some of the best hiking trails in the region.

The house comes with all the amenities… It comfortably sleeps 6. Small pets are welcome. The kitchen is well equipped with refrigerator/freezer, a gas range, microwave oven, and dishwasher. A washer/dryer combination is located in the lower level. There are two full bathrooms. Outdoors, there is a large deck overlooking the lake with a great view of Wilson House (where the Meech Lake Accord was signed). This main deck is equipped with an outdoor fireplace and a year round hot tub. There is also a breakfast deck on the south side of the house.

The property’s lakefront is situated just across Meech Lake Road from the house. Lake access is totally secure and private with a series of terraced decks leading down to the water. There is a canoe and a pair of kayaks for the paddling enthusiasts. With few motorized boats on the lake, it is ideal for peaceful paddling. The lake is also a swimmers dream – the swimming season goes strong from mid-May until the end of September.

The village of Chelsea is wonderful to explore, with its quaint shops and restaurants. And of course, le Spa Nordik offers complete pampering and a unique day spa experience.

And all of this is only 25-30 minutes from downtown Ottawa, allowing for longer-term renters to stay in the house and easily commute to the city.

This is an ideal property for anyone looking to rent on a long-term basis in Gatineau Park, and on Meech Lake in particular. 679 Meech is available to rent from Nov 1 to April 30, as a six month winter retreat (commutable to Ottawa in approx. 30 min), at a special rate.

About Michael Gennis

Michael Gennis and Robert Birnbaum. Michael, who works in Real Estate, is a native Ottawan who grew up skiing, hiking, and swimming in and around Meech Lake. Robert is a physician, who has lived in Ottawa for 40 years. He is an active outdoors man, who has a genuine love for Meech Lake and has lived on the Lake on and off for about 20 years.

Why Michael Gennis chose Gatineau

After years of enjoying outdoor activities on Meech Lake and in Gatineau Park, Robert initially purchased the property in 2002. He razed the small cottage that was by the road and built this magnificent home up on the hill overlooking the lake. The house was designed by renowned Ottawa architect Michael Kilpatrick.

This property is exceptional, amazingly equipped with every comfort and convenience for a stay of impeccable serenity, gregarious warmth and lake-side ambience. Highlights include the stunning views, fire-lit terrace, artwork, open air room, landscaped yet wild gardens and the sounds of loons at night- did I mention the dock...or the divine lake?

The owners were very generous and accommodating of our needs, which made our stay as inviting as a home away from home...we felt that welcome. We would rent again and again and we recommend this hidden gem highly.

  • The indoor bedrooms are quite comfortable. Bedroom #2 overlooks the living room with shutters for privacy. Bedroom #1 is considered the 'master' bedroom. Bedroom #3 is located in the loft in the screened porch, and is technically outside. This makes Bedroom #3 usable only in the warmer months. Brave souls can sleep there in the winter with an electric blanket and space heater (WE DO!)
