Somesville House Rental Photos and Description
3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house in historic Somesville
Turtle Nest house is located in historic Somesville village, in the center of Mount Desert Island, Maine, the home of Acadia National Park.
Turtle Nest was built in 1889 by the Allen Family, some of the first settlers on Mount Desert Island. You'll find wonderful tales about this area at the Mount Desert Island Historical Society Museum just down the street next to the lovely footbridge. Or just ask the librarian at the Somesville Library next door.
Turtle Nest is centrally-located; you are right in the middle of the island with easy access to everything the island has to offer -- 20 mins to Bar Harbor and Acadia, 5 mins to Southwest Harbor, or 20 mins to Northeast Harbor.
Turtle Nest is within walking distance of the free Island Explorer bus, which has stops at all the island villages and many locations within Acadia National Park. Turtle Nest is also within an easy walk of the bus top for two popular children's summer camps, Camp Beach Cliff and the Northeast Harbor Neighborhood House. Walk to the Acadia Repertory Theater to catch a show - children's shows during the day. Take a short walk to the Somesville Landing to fish from the dock, hunt for seashells at low tide, or kayak around Sheep Island.
After a lunch of popovers and jam at the Jordan Pond House, set out for adventure in Acadia National Park.
People have been drawn to the rugged coast of Maine throughout history. Awed by its beauty and diversity, visitors come to Acadia to hike granite peaks, bike historic carriage roads, or relax and enjoy the scenery. Acadia National Park has two beautiful ocean sand beaches and one lake beach on Echo Lake (perfect for young children), just 3 miles from Turtle Nest house.
At the end of the day, try a dinner of fresh lobster right from the boat at Thurston's Lobster Pond in Tremont, 15 mins towards the southern end of the Island.
Bring your day to an end by relaxing on the porch with family and friends. We hope Turtle Nest becomes your home away from home!

We've lived all over the US and abroad, but we still keep coming back to Mount Desert Island. It feels like home, no matter where we roam.
We have strong roots in Maine. My wife grew up across Somes Pond in the backyard and her family lives year round on MDI. My family's roots in Maine date back to Hannibal Hamlin. We wanted to continue our legacy on Maine and continue to be a part of the community of Somesville and MDI.
The house is a beautiful historic home in a nationally-recognized Historic District in the center of Mount Desert Island, Maine, home to Acadia National Park. The history of the house, particularly the feel of the barn, summer kitchen and front porch, give you an opportunity to take time out and relax.
We use the house as our family's second home. We spend a couple of months at Turtle Nest every year. Since we spend time there ourselves as a family with two young children, the house is set up well for an easy family vacation. It is ideal for one family or can be shared amongst two families.
