This is where we grew up. We have been here since 1971. My husband and I went to Downieville School. Our senior class size was 8. My husband and I were married in Downieville. This is a special place for us and our famiy.

The Owner purchased this house in 1971

We enjoy Downieville for many of the same reasons you do, and by offering our home as a vacation rental we are able to share it with you.

This cabin overlooks town and the quant village views, but its just a minute walk from the river, grocery store, restaurants and bars. It is in the middle of the action and yet has all the privacy you could want.

Great family week in the Gold Country In the Bear Run Cabin

  • 5 of 5
The Bear Run cabin had everything we needed for a relaxing week in the Gold Country/Sierra Buttes area. The kitchen was modern and fully equipped for making all our meals. The washer and dryer were a nice convenience to clean our biking and hiking clothes after each action-packed day. We could hear the soothing sound of the river while reading and unwinding on the front porch. It was very quiet each night. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms were clean with plenty of soft, fluffy towels. Downtown Downieville was a pleasant and short walk from the cabin and all of the locals we met were so friendly and willing to share their favorite hiking, biking trails and swimming holes. The Yuba Expedition Bike Shop folks were very helpful fixing our bike before a big race. The Downieville Day Spa was a great place to get a retreat facial and be pampered. The Kentucky Mine and Museum just past Sierra City had a fantastic tour of the mine and a working stamp mill. The Downieville Museum in town was full of artifacts tht
At made the history of this area come alive. The cabin's carport was spacious and we appreciated the outside hose to clean our bikes. It was a hot week in Downieville and the cabin's air-conditioning was wonderful to cool us down at night. Debbie was great and gave us everything we needed to feel at home. We had a positive experience renting this cabin. We would recommend the Bear Run cabin to our friends and would stay again if in the Sierra Buttes area!

This was a perfect spot for me and by friends to go mountain biking, walk into town to hit the restaurant and bar. The place was clean, quiet and totally set up.

Best Weekend

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Bear Run Cabin the last weekend in April 2014 for a wedding. Debbie and Brad are the best! The cabin was clean, updated and filled with everything you would need for a comfortable home away from home. It is located on top of hill with beautiful views of the river below along with the town of Downieville. The cabin had movies and even books for a quiet evening or a leisurely time on the front porch. If you staying anywhere near Downieville-I 100% recommend Bear Run Cabin. Of all the places everyone stayed this Cabin was far above the rest. Debbie and Brad could not have been kinder or easier to work with for renting the cabin. Thank you Debbie and Brad--the Wedding and the weekend were the best ever!! Hope to be visiting Bear Run in the very near future. : )))

Classy & Clean

Classy & Clean
  • 5 of 5
After you enter the house through the expansive carport (it fits 4 big pickup trucks!), you see a spacious kitchen with all the appliances, gadgets, and supplies you need. Above the full-sized washer and dryer, you can find a tote filled with towels specifically set aside for wiping down your bikes. Talk about attention to detail! Those details are seen throughout the house: extra TP and towels in the hall closet, and no fewer than 4 bars of soap in each bathroom.

The paint looks fresh, the fixtures are modern, and the sleeping and seating spaces are comfy. The front porch chairs provide the perfect perch from which you can watch the town below. And though the queen rooms don't have a lot of floor space, the master bedroom floor easily accommodated 4 kids in sleeping bags.

You won't find a cleaner, nicer place to stay in Downieville! We'll be back for sure.

What a fantastic cabin with a great location and very well appointed and comfortable. A wonderful old mining town with lots of character and 1849 history. Debbie was very helpful and made our visit to Downieville enjoyable and easy. Thanks!

Perfect base for exploring the Sierras

  • 5 of 5
I went out to this cabin with my family for a weekend trip. When we arrived, there was a deer sleeping curled up next to the porch. The view from that porch was lovely, and the cabin was very comfortable. There was plenty of space for our group and lots of good kitchenware for cooking meals. If you have never been to Downiville, it's a cute little town with a river running through the middle, and it's close to some of my favorite hikes in the sierras -- a great place for a weened trip. Debbie, the owner, was very friendly and went out of her way to make sure our trip was excellent. I would definitely recommend.
