Crafted with love and great care, the Plantation property offers an oasis for relaxation and rejuvenation in a lush tropical environment. Built with coral rock exterior walls, the Plantation is a unique, charming upcountry home. The entire two acres is planted with hundreds of palm trees, fruit trees and tropical flowers. Surrounded on two sides by pasture land, Plantation reflects the jewel tones of greens, with a slice of blue ocean view in the distance.
Running across the entire front of the house is an overhung deck. Stairs lead down to the 55 foot pool which is surrounded by a fence to keep it safe for families with children.
To one end of the deck is a gas BBQ and outdoor teak dining table. Why eat indoors when you can enjoy eating surrounded by tropical plants and flowers?
The interior has exotic wood floors, a gourmet kitchen, and is appointed with antiques and teak furniture. The living area, dining, kitchen, and two bedrooms face out towards the large lanai with the ocean in the distance. The other two bedrooms are on the back side of the house, facing up towards Haleakala.
The master bedroom is on the west end of the house, with three walls of windows and French doors opening to a deck with private outdoor shower. Lying in bed, you will look out to a massive banyan tree... a vision of peace and tranquility.
Long lanais, secluded gardens and private outdoor showers compliment your island experience. A lovely breakfast treat.... pick fruit from the many trees in the yard.
We LOVE Haiku. After many years of vacationing in Haiku, we purchased land to build our dream home. We have two young children, and the home was designed to be child friendly. We love the rural environment, picking fruit from our trees for breakfast each morning, playing in the pool with the kids. We are happy to share our home with you.
we enjoyed the plantation property very much. It is a wonderful place and a great location. We mainly enjoyed cycling on the island and did a lot of cooking at home. We did have a great meal at the Kula Lodge on Valentine's Day.
As of now we have no plans for returning next year but definitely will contact you if that changes! Thanks for you help with these awesome accommodations.
We are wanting to express how much we have enjoyed The Plantation property. Not only are the surroundings spectacular, and the house beautiful, it was very well equipped and we even appreciated the quality of the contents. It exceeded our expectations and would (and have already) recommended to our friends. It is with sincere appreciation that we express our gratitude for such a wonderful holiday with Maui Vacation Properties.
We have stayed at Plantation twice now, and it is hard to imagine that there is a more beautiful house in all of Maui. It is even better than the pictures—the light and air coming through all the big windows, the high ceilings, the beautiful furniture, the daybed on the deck, the floors like silk on your feet. The house even smells good!
I think lots of visitors come to Maui with a goal to stay on or near the ocean. But Plantation in Haiku is better. Walking barefoot among the fruit trees with a view of the ocean beyond, you feel like you’re in your own paradise, not another person in sight. It is also the perfect part of the island in which to stay—it is the country, not flooded with tourists, full of beautiful plants and singing birds. And it is right in the middle of the island, with easy access to both east and west sides. After staying at Plantation, you feel like you have lived in Maui for a week, not just stayed there.
We have had wonderful, fun evenings at Hana Hou café in Haiku, a local place with live music on the lanai. We love grabbing pizza at the Flatbread Company and some good fried fish from the Paia Fish Market. And we think Baldwin Beach in Paia is one of the best beaches on the island (again, not flooded with people).
In short, Plantation is hands-down the best and we would love to return.
Our stay at the Plantation was very good and the property exceeded our expectations. The setting was quiet and secluded with excellent amenities in the house. Our stay certainly gave an authentic feel for living in the Upcountry away from the tourist and resort crowd. The house was modern and comfortable and accommodated our party of 6/7 without difficulty. During our stay there were a few days of heavy rain and it felt cold in the house (but of course it was "cold" everywhere).
We have not decided about returning in the coming year since this would be based upon multiple schedules, however, we would certainly keep this property in mind if we had a similar large group of visitors.
Thanks again for a great property and holiday setting.
Plantation home exceeded our expectations. We were saddened to leave. The house was comfortable, expansive and luxurious. We have stayed in numerous homes and rentals and have never seen one so well appointed. It was beautiful and the kitchen was stocked with exceptionally nice appliances and dishes. What a true vacation to see the sun rise and set over the ocean, enjoy our private and refreshing lap pool and take walks through our very own palm forest. The lush and private landscape provided a sense of beauty and peace. The outdoor showers enhanced the laid back lifestyle we so quickly embraced. Being in Plantation was a favorite vacation for our family of all time.
This place is ok but not quite as advertised: There is no satellite TV (as advertised) and the cable TV reception is horrible - definitely not hi-def as would normally be provided at a rental in this price range. There is an ocean view but is is just a wee slice of ocean as the trees in the neighbors yards toward the ocean have grown up quite a bit. There are no comfortable reading chairs at the house nor are there any comfortable chairs just for sitting on the balcony. There is only a wooden table with some wooden chairs. Very strange. There is no light above the dining table which is also strange. You must rely on light from the kitchen and a little candle that someone must have donated. The grounds are quite overgrown and could use a good trimming. The bed was comfortable and the bathrooms clean and functional. Problems were responded to quickly. Pool seemed un-heated so was unused as water was cool.
Plantation, a unique vacation retreat located in Upcountry Maui.
A vacation in Upcountry Maui is an opportunity to escape from the hustle and bustle, and experience a different side of Maui. Set just a short way above sea level, Plantation is just over a one mile from the town center of Haiku, with a variety of amenities and services.
Eating out: Haiku town center offers a variety of small restaurants and cafes. From the lunch time fish taco stand, to breakfast, lunch or dinner at Colleens, there is both variety, as well as quantity:
Nuka (fabulous sushi restaurant)
For upscale dining, Mama's Fish House and Haliimaile General Store (two of Maui's best restaurants) are within ten minutes by car.
If you are looking for more options, Paia or Makawao are only ten minutes by car.
Groceries: Haiku town center has two small grocery stores - Haiku Grocery, and Fukushima's. Although small in size, they seem to have almost everything you might want. For major grocery shopping, Safeway and Costco are located in Kahului (approx. 20 minutes from the house).
Health and Fitness: Upcountry Fitness is a small gym, offering short memberships suitable for guests on vacation.
Other services include:
Hair and nail salon
Massage therapist (note: many therapists will visit the house and provide on-site services).
Business Services: We hope that you won't be working on vacation, but if necessary, Haiku town center has a Postal Plus and a post office. (Note: Plantation also provides high speed wireless internet).
Activities and Adventure: There's really no shortage! The Haiku area is close to world class surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, hiking, and biking.
Be sure to visit Donnie at Go Cycling Maui. They offer the ultimate cycling tour experience, treating you like a professional cyclist (sort of like a fantasy camp for cyclists). They are also a full service bike shop with high end rentals.
Haleakala Bike Company is also located in Haiku, and offer a very different service. They drive to the Haleakala park gate and provide a bike for you to cycle down at your own pace.
For a quick hike, be sure to visit Twin Falls (about 10-15 minutes by car from Plantation) and hike up the stream to the waterfalls. They're a bit chilly, but there's nothing like swimming under a waterfall.
If you want to soar over a gulch, the North Shore Zipline is a short five minute drive from Plantation.
