This is the perfect place to have a family vacation in the beautiful city of Victoria. The home is on the nicest sandiest beach in Victoria. We have all the amenities to enjoy a beach vacation, including the use of kayaks.
There is great cycling in the area and the Cadboro Bay Village is a short stroll along the beach.
Directly on the beach!
We stayed in this beautiful home for a week in July. The owner was responsive and excellent to work with. We are 2 families of four with children from 9 to 12 years old. The house was perfect. The location is quiet but within an easy drive of everything you need and 15-20 minutes to downtown Victoria. The house has a lovely backyard that abuts a public but un-crowded beach (lots of dogs, though). There is a trampoline in the private front yard there is plenty of comfortable seating on the back porch and yard, a hot tub, grill, three kayaks (with life preservers) and the whole cove to explore. We felt very safe giving the children free reign in this lovely area.
The house has 4 large bedrooms (plenty of room for mattresses on the floor when the children didn't want to share beds) and 3 full bathrooms. The stairs to the "loft" bedroom are steep but the room is very quiet and private. There is an additional half bath on the ground floor. The hot water and water pressure were plentiful even when 3 people were showering at the same time. There were lots of bath and beach towels (very important with 4 kids). We particularly loved leaving the windows open at night and listening to the lapping of the waves. The kitchen is extremely well provisioned and we cooked a number of meals without missing anything. The washer and dryer are very large and efficient (also important with 4 kids).
The area has plenty to do. We visited downtown Victoria for a half a day, which was plenty of time. We also visited the Royal BC Museum. We were told to plan on about 2 hours for that visit, but we could have easily spent 4-5 hours. The neighborhood on the bluff near the house has a nice natural park with some pretty hiking trails (with lots of wild blackberries...yum) and you can walk up to a lookout point and see the San Juan Islands. We also took a day and drove out to East Sooke Park and went on a beautiful hike and explored the rocky beaches. Finally, we had a SUP lesson with Brian, who lives next door. He was wonderful and all but the youngest child were able to participate. The (just turned) 9 year old was given a kayak paddle and got to ride on the front of Brian's board.
We ate/ordered in most nights but had a wonderful meal at Pagliacci's in Victoria. It was a fantastic vacation with the right mix of adventure and relaxation. Thank you Larry for renting us your beautiful home!
One downside only to this rental - THE PHOTOS DO NOT DO IT JUSTICE!
The kitchen has stunning, almost panoramic views. Three of the four bedrooms have views, too. Once you get there and walk one of the only sandy beaches in Victoria, right outside your door, you will see how perfectly positioned this place is. The home is stocked with everything you'd need, from toiletries, to condiments, etc. The home is clean and well kept; ditto for the grounds. There are loads of attractions, good restaurants, etc. not far from the home. As a runner training for a 1/2 marathon, I found the runs to be nicely challenging, with many routes gps available on map my run.
We have lived in various places around the world and are well travelled as a result. Trust us when we say that this holiday exceeded our expectations.
What a beautiful home and location to vacation in! This bay home is spectacular. The house itself is well-kept up and beautifully decorated. The pictures on the internet do not do it justice (according to my son who was astounded at it's beauty). As we entered, the full length windows overlooked the bay with mountains in the background. There were plenty of activities at the house including the hot tub, beach activities, a trampoline (which my grandchildren loved), bikes, a neighbor who taught us to paddle board, wireless internet, and cable television. Its location is perfect. It was around 15 minutes to Victoria via car, so we could go from house activities to exploring Victoria and eating out throughout our stay. Kayaking into the bay in Victoria was a highlight of the trip. Butchart Gardens are quite close and we were able to spent an evening in one of the most beautiful gardens in the world. Don't miss that one. The owner was more than helpful. He responded immediately to my emails, made recommendations on travel, and generally made us feel welcome at his home. Even the "welcome basket" that was in the house when we arrived was tailored to our family. I would recommend the property to anyone who wants to experience Vancouver Island - from nature, activities, or sightseeing. In my mind, one of the greatest endorsements was from my 9 year old granddaughter. After everything that we do together, I ask her what was her favorite part. This time her list was ten items long, and she could not pick one!
This home exceeded the expectations set up by the website. We absolutely loved the location, both for the beach and nearby amenities, and the proximity to the city - there is no shortage of activities around Victoria. A bonus was having a paddle-boarding teacher nearby, with great conditions in the bay! In the home, we were impressed by how well-stocked the gourmet kitchen was, and enjoyed home-cooked meals. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable for us and our little children, and the loft provided the perfect private suite for grandpa. We enjoyed the views from inside, and our quiet evenings on the deck, watching the sun set and listening to the sea. The owner was friendly and was helpful with providing information about the rental and offering further assistance if needed. Staying at this home was a positive experience, and we would choose this rental again if we returned to Victoria. Our only regret was not staying longer!
