West Saugerties Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedroom 1 & 1/2 Bath

Come explore a true country experience at our 19th century farm cottage. Located on a country road with Overlook Mountain as its backdrop, the cottage is part of our 100 acre tree farm, perfect for the artist or writer who wants to get away from it all yet a short drive to Woodstock or Saugerties. Out the front door of the cottage and across a small open field, enter the woods and follow trails that run throughout the property on which you can walk, mountain bike, and in winter snowshoe and cross country ski, as snow cover permits. You will find the newly renovated cottage to have full amenities, even as it retains its quaint country charm. Located between Woodstock (4 miles) and Saugerties (5 miles) the cottage is ideally situated to take advantage of the many activities the area provides. The cottage location just 5 miles from exit 20 at mile 101 on the New York State Thruway ensures easy access year-round.

Enter the four room cottage through a 28 foot long screen porch. A table on the porch allows for outdoor dining while porch furniture provides comfortable seating. The kitchen and living room both have oak floors and exposed wood ceilings. The beams in the living room show marks of the hand hewing that produced them more than a century ago, while an old hearth in the kitchen and low ceilings throughout evoke a warmer and simpler time. The kitchen is newly equipped with a gas range and oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, and ample cooking and dining supplies. A center butcher block island provides plentiful space for food preparation and gathering round. A dining table comfortably seats four. Also downstairs off the kitchen is a bathroom with a glass-enclosed shower.

A stairway off a landing between the living room and kitchen leads upstairs to two bedrooms, both with queen size beds with memory foam mattresses. The bedrooms are separated by a hallway and a half bath. Carpeting throughout the upstairs makes it especially cozy and welcoming.

The cottage is suitable for children. Our granddaughter lives across the road from the cottage and is available for child sitting, as schedules permit. A Pack ’n Play, Crib/toddler bed and high chair are available upon request.

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5
My husband, my son and I came with another couple and their daughter for the weekend. We had a wonderful time in this cozy cottage. Very clean and comfortable, we loved it. Colleen and Jeffrey even provided us a pacn'play, a toddler bed and a high chair. They were very helpful, told us the best places to go for hiking and dining and where to go with our kids.
We really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back.
And I must say, that Colleens cookies are the BEST.
Thank you so much for everything.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5
We were travelling with our 8 and 11 year old boys from Australia and had the most wonderful time at Colleen and Geoffrey's cottage. Clean, very comfortable, well equipped kitchen, BBQ (plus lots of extras - games, TV, hike starting in the backyard) with beautiful land around. We loved it so much, we didn't want to go out (although there are lots of great things to do within 20 minutes). We all agree that it was the best accommodation we had on our entire 3 month trip. Colleen and Geoffrey are gracious hosts. We cannot recommend this house highly enough.

Great stay!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I came with another couple for the weekend, and it was the perfect place for 2 couples to get away and relax for the weekend. We brought our friend's dog, who also loved the open space to run around. Fire pit was perfect for making s'mores at night, and the grill was great too. Nearby to plenty of hiking areas (and the owners can give plenty of recs for trails depending on what you're looking for). Also took a nice walk/hike through a trail on their property. Owners are very friendly and helpful with plenty of recommendations and available throughout your stay if you need anything. The cookies you'll receive when you arrive are to die for! Thanks for everything, Jeff and Colleen!

Perfect Spot

  • 5 of 5
I've rented many homes in this area and this is without doubt a standout. Quiet, comfortable, clean and a magical property that the owner generously shares. I can't recommend this property more highly. Even on the rainiest days the porch was the perfect place to relax. Will definitely return.

Great Location for Hiking. Great Hosts!

  • 5 of 5
We were looking for somewhere to get away from the city for the weekend and a place which would serve as a good home base for hiking in the Catskills. This was the perfect place. We arrived around dinner time on Friday and there is a very good restaurant about 5 minutes drive from the house which was perfect since we didn't feel like cooking. On saturday we were able to get up early and drive up to Sugarloaf Mtn and hike for 5 hours. It was only about 20-30 minutes away. We were able to spend the afternoon in some of the nearby towns such as Hudson and Woodstock and later in the day we hung out at the Cottege.

It is very cozy and has all the things you need to cook or stay entertained. We asked Jefferey for some hiking recommendations for sunday and he immediately gave us one that turned out to be great. We also wanted to build a fire in the fire pit. Knowing this, Jeffery actually gathered a bunch of wood for us. The whole time, Jeffery and Colleen went out of the way to make our stay great.

Highly recommend this place. We'll definitely be going back.

Peaceful Summer Retreat

  • 5 of 5
If you're looking for a secluded retreat at an affordable price, you have just found it. I stayed here with my boyfriend for three months to escape NYC's oppressive summer heat. We spent most of our days working from the porch, watching the wildlife, the family of deer that came by every evening, the squirrels, tree frogs, and even a small bear.

This little cottage has everything. It has just been renovated, leaving the old wooden beams exposed. The bathroom has a spa-like shower. The grill is fantastic. We cooked out every night. The Catskills Smokehouse, which offers a variety of cuts, is just down the road. Try the baked beans!

Jeff and Colleen were great hosts. They were extremely accommodating. We needed a mailbox (yeah, the neighborhood is pretty rural) and within a day Jeff got us one. We wanted a fire pit and right away Jeff helped us pick out a spot. We will miss being able to grill up a steak, and sit by the fire, watching the stars.

The only downside was during the month of July the mosquitoes were ferocious, so much that you couldn't walk to the car without getting bitten. But there's not much anyone can do about that. Thankfully the screened-in porch protected us from their insatiable appetites.

Overall, we had a wonderful time. There's nothing better than feeling like you're camping but without the sleeping bag and with all the comforts of home. We will definitely consider visiting again.
